In this video I'm doing a little street session on my KLX300 Dual Sport; practicing wheelies, topping it out, and just having a good time.

I'm new to the Kawi scene having ridden XR's my whole life. I got a 2020 KLX300 for the dirt and the only thing I don't really care for is how linear the power feels. I'm used to a longer pull between the gears and my KLX feels more like a quad. Other than that, I've had mine up to about 75 in the desert and it tracked through the loose stuff like yours tracks on the street. Great bikes!

My 2022 klx300 sm has 270 miles and i feel like I struggle to do much more than 60mph. Do these bikes improve that much as they break in?

I feel like it was a noticeable difference but maybe just wait till 500-600 miles and then do a full synthetic oil change and see if you notice. Maybe there are other factors affecting your top speed (chain too tight, brakes dragging?) because I think the supermoto even has a slightly taller gear ratio for more relaxed highway cruising.

I've had mine to 84 and climbing ,but the speedometer definitely reads higher than what I'm actually doing, as near as I can determine about 8%.

Yeah that makes sense. I’m thinking my “92 mph” was somewhere between 83-86mph. Still impressive though for our little 300!

I never did open mine up long enough to see what top speed was , but since then I've done the usual mods for more power, and it does seem to have significantly more power and I changed the front sprocket up 1 tooth.

I have 550 miles on my 2023 klx300 and I can’t get the front end up for shit. Just installed a delk 9inch exhaust , KDX snorkel, o2 delete, and a EJK tuner. What do bros?

@@gwennscott6749 if you got it going that fast then you should have enough power to get the front wheel up. I thought the same thing as you. like man this bike doesn’t have enough torque to do wheelies. Now that I got the timing down and could loop it in second gear if I’m not paying attention. Just gotta watch KZfaq vids and practice a good bit.

@@SmokinZen yeah I think these small displacement bikes are pretty sensitive to weight. 30-40lbs is probably significant difference. I also had to make myself really skinny on the bike. If I have a normal riding position I don’t think I can get past 85/86 on the speedo.

I put mine away for winter when I weighed 330 in late spring I took it out . I now weigh 209 and the klx noticed. Day and night difference. Can't wait till I am 175.

Would you recommend the sm version for wheelies?

The dual sport and the supermoto would be similar for wheelies since they are the same setup in general. If you were just wanting to do wheelies the drz400sm might have a bit more wheelie power but the klx also works well with some practice. The klx is also better than the drz in many ways (lighter, fuel injected, better looks imo, etc).
