Guitar demo of the latest analog suboctave machine by KMA Machines, the Queequeg 2 Subgenerator.
Available for purchase at: thepedalzone.c...
Queequeg 2 expands on KMA’s simple yet sublime analog suboctave machine by adding two new octave modes to the mix and greatly improving the monophonic tracking. Besides the classic one octave down, you now get access to an earth-shakingly deep two octaves below, as well as a combination of the two for extra thick synth-like tones. On top of that the hardware has been modernized with top-mounted I/Os and silent relay switching, letting you achieve old-school analog tones in a pedal fit for any modern rig.

KMA continues their hot streak with rad designs! That Vintage Feels section reminds me of a nostalgic 8 bit video game's underwater level - really loved your playing in that section! The art is so rad on the Queequeg too!

Thank you! Pedals were made to interact with each other, so I'm happy to hear you appreciate that part of the demo process. I really enjoy exploring as many sonic avenues as possible. On its own, the Queequeg 2 is fairly "neutral" and subtle, but once you start combining it with some dirt and modulation, you can really hear how much boldness and life it can breathe into a sound.

It does sound huge. Similar to the OC2 with a harmonic character to the sound, but with a bit more grit. I take my hat off to KMA. Another engineering triumph from them, and another superb Riff & Run Stefan.

Holy cow, you wouldn’t believe the analogue octave scene in the bass realm. We’ve got a few pedals that capture the magic, some quite rare and fetching $500+. I was considering rehousing my boss OC-2 with top jacks and modern switching. KMA freaking built the thing to a T! In a killer design to boot. Now I can move my unobtaineum and get the Meris Mercury7 I’ve been eying.

Absolutely a thorough review of this pedal! That 2 octave dive felt being in the depths of the ocean no one sees. The combo you had at times gave the high 3 string a popping sound while adding the squishy bass notes- incredible!

So impressed. KMA does it again. Sounds like it can be used as a riff thickener or for full-on synthy fun, whereas the Bit Commander resides only in synthtown. And all with one knob and one toggle switch! Seems like it’s everything I want from an octave down pedal.

Bought it and ended up using it twice and putting it back in the box. The highest tuning i play in is drop b and my main guitar is in drop f. The pedal works for anything on the higher strings but wont play anything lower. Shiuldve thought about that before I bought it though so thats on me. If I played up in standard it would probably be awesome so anyone who downtunes, this probably isnt the pedal for you

I guessed it might be the updated Queequeg after I saw the one knob on IG, but this is really well done (as is your masterful playing). Great demo once again! The arcade track was sick!! How would you compare it with the moai maea?
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I was really happy with how it sounded together with a bitcrusher as well. Well, this is basically the suboctave part of Moai Maea in a smaller package and with slightly better tracking. So if you just need suboctaves, and don't need the individual mix knobs for each octave and dry signal, then Queequeg 2 is a stellar alternative.

Where do you have it placed in the chain? Analog octave pedals should always be placed as one of the first pedals in the chain, in order to get the best note tracking. The sound and tracking of the pedal will also depend on what pickup position you're using and where on the neck you're playing. You can also try to roll back the Tone pot on your guitar a bit, when playing through the pedal, as that will remove upper harmonics that can sometimes make the pedal glitch. Oh, and remember... analog octave pedals like Queequeg are monophonic. If you try to play chords through it, it will glitch out as it's not designed for polyphonic playing.

It bugs me.. i want a pedal thats just does sub octave and one simple knob like this but it sucks that you cant do chords
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 2 жыл бұрын
Well, if chords are important to you with this kind of effect, then definitely get a polyphonic octaver. Personally, I don't like using sub octaves with chords. It just makes things sound muddy, whereas Octave up, and harmony effects I prefer to be polyphonic. I also like that the monophonic aspect takes me out of my open chord comfort zone and forces me to play differently. Limitations breathe creativity :) Stoked that you find the pedal appealing despite its monophonic nature
