The knai thomman and his people came from Edessa and settled around kodungalloor as per the so called parangi church historians. The so called copper chepped given to these people no body has seen. There is only a summary translation of the same available written in the 17th century available now ! It could be the translation of the Tharissappally chepped only and the Parangi historians and others have mistaken and called it to be some other chepped and later on other historans linked it with legend of Knai thoman migration. If at all that legend has an iota of truth, then how can you link the Kundara "Panikkars" and the Kallada/ Kollam "Muthalalis" and the "Tharakans" with these people. So there is something fishy about these Knanaya legend itself. The Muthalalis were the custodians of weights and measures at Kollam and were given the privilege to collect taxes by the Venad rulers. Because of these privileges they were given the title of Muthalalis by the local Venad rulers . Now what has these Kollam Nazranies to do with the Knanaya community ? Or indirectly is he trying to say that they both are the same people as mentioned by the Church of the East bishop in his letter to the Portugese King when he was complaining about the attack by the Moors or the muslims in Kodungalloor. The chepped and the 72 privileges etc which this community is talking about is the same as those given to the Kollam Nazranies. There was a migration to Kollam from Nineveh in Mesopotamia in 823 AD and they were given the copper cheppeds in 849 AD also known as the Tharissappally chepped by the local king of Venad which is still preserved. This Kollam community of "Nasranis" started the "Kollavarsham" in commemoration of the construction of the Tharissappally church at Thevally ( which came from Thevar Pally) on 17th August 825 AD. These "Kollam Nasranis" were Judeo- Arameans and they were given 72 privileges etc. But the exact date of arrival of Knai thomman and his people is still not settled. The most likely date could be kollavarsham 345 and not 345 AD as is wrongly speculated which means their arrival date to Kodungalloor would be 825+345 = 1170 AD ! This makes sense. As it is told that a group from the Kollam Nazranies migrated internally to Kodungalloor in the 12th century and settled down there and there called as Thekkumbhagar as they came from the south of Kodungalloor . They practiced endogamy as against the Nestorian christians who migrated from Mylapore to Kodungalloor around that time and were called as Vadakkumbhagar. This nestorian merchant Thoma or Thomas may have visited Mylapore in Chennai from Kodungalloor and would have got killed there and his body shifted to Edessa later on thinking that he is a bishop from there. Now you know the origin of the St. Thomas legend and its Mylapore connection. That is also the origin of the Kerala St. Thomas Christian myth started by the parangi and later on the syro- malabar historians !

First he said that the history of Knai Thoma not known and have to be studied, then he is so sure of Thoma as if he has known him.
