So true. I'm in my fifties and I noticed that I was totally losing my glutes. I'm sure it started happening long before my fifties but who can see themselve from behind, right. Anyway, I developed knee problems in my late forties. In the last year I've started focusing on my glute muscles and boy have I been feeling better. My knees are getting better and just my over all well being has significantly improved. I'm just amazed. I believe the glute mucles are so important to maintain especially as we age because we tend to lose them.😕

I am so glad this video showed up in my feed! I’m 70 years old, never having had a knee issue until last month when X-rays showed “mild suprapatellar synovial effusion.” Doesn’t feel so “mild”. My dr. hasn’t been very helpful besides referring me to PT, which gave me exercises like just what you described. Even the exercise directions refer to the leg that had surgery (which mine hasn’t). Super helpful and informative video. I’ll be looking at the related ones you’ve linked to. Thank you!

This video is awesome. I’ve been diagnosed with both bursitis and patellofemoral pain syndrome. Mild edema in the prepatellar subcutaneous tissue per MRI report and per orthopedic. MRI report also indicated mild effusion in the patellofemoral joint but orthopedic said it was normal joint fluid? Almost 8 months of this problem. PT focused on quads and hamstrings plus balance exercises. Been adding glute exercises to my daily routine but sounds like I should stop exercising my quads all together.

Hi. I just wanted to make a quick comment. I've been doing a bit of self-diagnosing for a knee pain that suddenly came about and that is how I ran into your channel. I've embarked on this strength training journey and I think I hurt something while maybe doing this. My pain is only when squatting, going down the stairs, or while standing up. It isn't anything too crazy, but it is painful, no swelling though. It's more toward the top of the knee, and does not hurt when in a kneeling position. There's lots of squats on this strength series I'm following. The pain is only on my right side. I think you did a great explanation about this. Everything I was looking at was people talking about a meniscus tear or tendinitis or Patellar Tendonitis or patellofemoral pain syndrome. But you're the only one that mentioned knee bursitis and explained it well. I was hoping this pain would just go away on its own but it doesn't seem to based on your video. Maybe I should go see a doctor. Should I ask my primary doctor for a referral to PT?

Yeah... PT today just made mine 500% worse than it was this morning. My glute exercises had been helping. Until I think PT worked my glutes until they stopped, and my mega quads took over. Until my knee went OH HELL NO and now instead of being able to do pretty much any motion with minor discomfort, sitting on a toilet hurts. Here I thought I was going to PT for preventative care :(

The same thing just happened to me! You are not alone. My knee was doing better. I was able to weight bear almost 40%. I even was able to clean some of the house. Then PT this past Monday jacked me up real good showing me a new knee exercise. Searing pain when I did it and now I can't bear any weight at ALL...for the last 3 days. I feel your pain AND I told them I'm not doing PT anymore. 3 months of this shit...😢

@@questgivercyradis8462 It's definitely been an uphill battle. Don't get me started on the ortho doctor...I'm planning to take some time to see if this new symptom subsides before even attempting PT again. My chiropractor has been helping to readjust my knee and my back and it's helping. I was out of alignment to boot. My life has basically just been on crutches in the house and going to doctor's appointments. 😔 Sorry to hear that you were hurt at PT too. Unfortunately I think a ton of people go through this. Thank you so much for the clear explanation. Two days ago when I went to see my chiropractor for the exact same issue, he also pinpointed to the week glute muscle. I totally get your logic and the reasoning, but still have one more question regarding an important detail, which is, will long term exercise on glute muscle will remove or reduce the inflammation? I can certainly apply ice to it, in conjunction with the glued exercise, do you think the inflammation will go away? if so, how long it will take usually?

Thank you for this video. I’m a RN and I was squatting down starting some IV’s and drawing labs. I was also running up and down the stairs to get to different floors. Next thing you know when I was heading home, the top of my knee was hurting and swollen. I believe it’s suprapatellar bursitis because now it hurts to even bend my knee. I started back working out in September and have lost 42 pounds. But I’m going heavier on my weight training and I’m wondering if I’m not working glutes enough? Maybe that’s what caused the imbalance?

Hi i hurt my knee at work. I was on my knee working up and back down on my knee last time,I had felt a sharp pain. I walked it off. 15 min later my knee starts to swell. An hour late its so swollen that I couldn’t walk. Went to the er had X-ray test was good. Nothing broken. They refunded me to the ortho. Ultrasound good. Blood test good. Growing inpatient with my ortho. This didn’t diagnose the issue. Plus canceled my appointment yesterday on me. Next appointment in a week from today. My question is my knee was swollen above the knee cap on the day of the injury. The day after the fluid traveled from the knee to the thigh all the way down to the calf and ankle. Would bursitis do this? My wife and I believe this is bursitis. But haven’t been diagnosed yet.

I will get MRI results tomorrow but I’m seriously wondering if I have this from what you describe as symptoms. Sounds like an MRI won’t show it. Any way to get a definitive diagnosis? The only reason I’m doubting is because I’ve been in a high quality rebounder for about a year and feel like I’ve done some good glute work. If anything my quads seem weak? How much do your programs cost if I decide to go that route?😊 one more question, is it common to have periodic throbbing pain in the patella area at rest with this?

@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Жыл бұрын
Hey Mary, the quads will atrophy in some cases but can still be the dominant muscle group and put too much pressure through the knee joint. Working on glute strength is still important. Even ignoring the quads until the knee is healthy again is ok. Once you've had a good amount of time without knee pain, then working on the quads would be okay. But you'll slow down your progress if you work on your quads now.

I randomly get a swelling just below the knee cap, seems unrelated to activity, just starts and can be 2-3 days to peak pain, and can last for a week or two even when resting. it gets so bad i can't bend my knee or if i do, it takes several minutes, and also a long time to get it straight again. I have to pick my leg up to get into bed, it has no power and intense pain. I can stand up on this leg with no problem, so the actual part where the bones meet must be fine, its more like a muscle ligament thing. Been told it might be gouty arthritis. Does that sound likely? I am thinking it might be bursitis after watching your video, esoecially the one beflow the knee. I do have strong quads and I do have a small butt so maybe you are onto something here, very interesting!

Hey Kakarot, that sounds like you're still dealing with some swelling in the area. If you had your meniscus repair within the past 2 months, then this may be normal. If it's been more than 2 months, then you likely have an underlying muscle imbalance that is putting too much pressure on the inner part of the knee and not allowing that area to heal properly. Fix the muscle imbalance either way to make sure your knee is healthy for the long term!

@epmanualphysicaltherapy Жыл бұрын
Hey FAMLOPEZ, This is a great question! 🙌 You can as long as you are activating the glute muscles. A way to test if you are activating the glutes is when you cycle for a while and you stop and get off your bike. If you notice that your quads are tired then the glutes were not activated. You want to feel tired in the glutes. We do have a video that explains the exercise here: "Can Cycling Actually Help Heal Knee Pain From Chondromalacia Patella" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ouB_nLmZz6zMlps.html The same techniques apply to bursitis even though the video is addressing Chondromalcia Patella. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!😃

Do statin drugs (Lipitor, Zocor, etc.) cause swelling of the bursa? Like clockwork, after 6 weeks of taking a relatively high dose of a statin, my knee(s) swell resulting in intense pain.

Ask your doctor to switch you to a low dose water soluble statin. Lipitor and Zocor are fat soluble and cause more muscle problems. Pravachol or Lescol are water based. Crestor is also water based but is the strongest statin and can cause problems. Pravachol at 10mg nightly with lipid profile in 6 weeks. If tolerated the dose can be increased. Take Co-enzyme Q10 400mg daily. This also helps with muscle pain. Hope this helps. Dr.Mike DO

Lipitor and Zocor caused lots of knee pain. Pravachol, even at a high dose, caused zero pain. Very effective with minimal to no side effects! 👏👏

So I get bursitis about twice a year since 2021. I was thinking of going to see my doctor but he doesn't do anything. He says there's nothing wrong with takes a x-ray. And put some tape on it. The first time was the. Caused by kneeling on cement working on my car. This time it was caused by standing in one place for 3 or 4 hours. Sanding and painting my back fence. Don't have any pain.

Can people with a high foot arch also be the cause of some muscle groups being overused and play a role in getting Bursitis of the inner knee area? My son has just started playing rugby, he has high arches, his second practice he fell on his knee while tackling and now has a huge painful bump (not a bruise) on the inner section of the knee below the knee cap, he is only 12 now, will this cause future issues? And how can I have him treated correctly to train the correct muscle groups to help with the high arch and prevent further Bursa injuries?

This past weekend I experienced a pulsating pain below my knee cap on the right side (outside) of my right leg. The pain was intense I applied my right thumb on the spot and it alleviated the pulsing pain. There is no pain with movement. Sunday it occurred a couple of times that evening. I took ibuprofen Sunday evening with no further pain until Tuesday even while standing I felt a series of pulses then it stopped. Any idea?

My glutes are strong. I don’t think muscle imbalance is the root cause
@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Ай бұрын
Hi kban, it has to do with whether your glutes are stronger than your thighs. When it comes to knee pain and muscle imbalances, the hamstrings and quads tend to be more dominant, like the heavier side of the seesaw. This can put excess pressure on the knee joint, leading to discomfort and potential issues. Our suggestion is to focus on strengthening the glutes and engaging the core muscles, which act as the other side of the seesaw, helping to restore balance and reduce strain on the knee. You can go back to working the hamstrings and quads as soon as you are confident the glutes are stronger. You will know when the pain subsides in your knees but you will need to make sure that the strength in the glutes, hamstrings, and quads are balanced. Of course, we acknowledge that everyone's situation is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. We encourage you to listen to your body and if you don't feel like focusing on the glutes is going to work for you then do what feels best.

Hello :) thank you so much for all of your videos. I’ve learned so much. I’ve been having this very uncomfortable feeling on one of my knees. Almost like it’s misaligned, I don’t have pain just an uncomfortable ( like a pulled muscle on the back of my knee and side of my hip. I can see a dent on the side of my knee cap, it looks like my knee is shrinking and the tendon below it looks smaller than the other knee. When I move the same leg like I’m riding a bike motion the hip area pops. I feel like I’m falling apart. Would love to get your feedback on what you think may be going on.I have major health anxiety and I’m afraid to go see a doc and be told I need surgery. 😢I can walk okay no major pain, but I’m afraid it will get worse. Please help!
