Knife Epidemic In Britain: When Teens Turn Into Killers (Crime Documentary)

The press and TV news reports are full of politicians, youth workers, police and journalists pontificating about the epidemic of gun and knife crime on Britain’s streets, but where are the voices of the young people themselves?
This film takes the audience onto the streets of London, Manchester and Bradford to find out what the young men who actually carry guns and knives really think.
Why do so many youths “tool up” these days? How important are notions like territory, respect and revenge? What kind of weapons are being used on our streets on a daily (or nightly) basis? How easy is it to get hold of guns, knives and other lethal tools? What is the most dangerous age to be on the streets, and once you’ve been drawn in to violence and “carrying”, how can you walk away. What impact do knife amnesties and tougher sentences have?
And what solutions do the people at the heart of the problem think might actually make a difference. Looking at Britain’s streets through the eyes of the young people who spend most of their time on those streets, we see an entirely different geography.
A world of perceived sleights and coldly assessed threats, a landscape of no-go areas, a storehouse of easily accessible weaponry.
At times deeply disturbing, but also containing seeds of real hope, this film is an intimate and iconic portrayal of the modern Britain as seen through the eyes of our teenage urban youth.

This idea of "their territory" is comical. Both in Britian AND here in the States!! With the majority living at home w/ parents. Not paying a mortgage or even rent.....how can they have the audacity to fathom claiming ANYTHING as their own. Shows their continued immaturity, 😏

You'd take it more seriously if you lived here and had them absolutely terrorizing your area for NO reason other than boredom. These kids are FERAL animals. Misery gets them off, and people's suffering gives them a semi. You can't rationalize with them, or debate. You just have to hit the gym until you're so big they just wont bother.

what's an accent got to do with anything? I can't speak for these kids specifically but I lived in Ireland and the UK and the amount of senseless violence is no joke. In America and other countries most violence has a reason behind it (drugs, money, respect, infidelity ect) but over there u can get your face slashed and your head kicked in for sheer enjoyment.

I believe the government is worse... The real degeneration... The hidden malice. If only one knew how *your parents* have actually signed your soul *(life certificate)* to these empirical vampires... Try to disclose truth in court, one is ignored as just a *body* owned by contract. Your birth certificate is a *debted contract* which one unwittingly bequeaths upon their offsprings.... When you enter court, the reason one can *not talk* openly is due to this certificate... you are a product of contract owned by a corporation... This *CON* - tract was signed at your *conception!* As revenue for future taxes: free school meals, education, housing, hospital treatment, government endorsements for your life. The owners of the contract can shut you down in court, and dismiss your presence at will. You are a body at best... In which the corporation can do as they will. Your *birth name is temporary* an assignment measurement along with identity number which exist to bind one to thus contract. A spell to bind one to the signed contract. For corporation entities to locate you at due notice. One is classed as the body. When one is relegated from this reality, Your name will be assigned as *"The Body"* of a specific unique number *(Tax Insurance number)* for insurance purpose... To insure you are bound to the contract, forfeit a hefty fine or imprisonment? The only freedom of speech is *heralded by the courts* and those affiliated. Those outside the hierarchy have no rights. You have *no rights...* citizens have no rights, each dominated by the corporation. Corporation of London, Washington, Rome... Open your eyes Open your eyes Open your eyes...

We have a global epidemic with today's youth and it has nothing to do with video games, movies, TV because people my age (37 years old) grew up with all of those things and we didn't have these issues that we see in today's world. Parents need to raise their children better that's the bottom line, kids need to understand that their actions will result with consequences good and bad.

Real men fight one on one with two fists no weapons but these youths are cowards without there gang and there weapons. If we all followed the gypsy traveller code of solving disputes by going into a field or car park and having a one on one fist fight til someone quits then so many lives would be saved. The worst u get is a busted up face or broken jaw but u live and then shake hands afterwards with a new found respect for the person u had a hard fight with. They should make bare knuckle fights legal and let them do it youth clubs and that would stop so much stabbing on the street coz they could have a legal space to just throw fists instead.

To all the little wannabe gangsters that think that they are so tuff & that they deserve respect. I will let you in on a little saying that goes ( to get respect, first you have to give respect). The true strength of a man is to be able to walk away from those situations where people are dissing you,or are threatening you if you can. Harming people because they looked at you the wrong way or because they scuffed your shoes is just bloody stupid. Just because people walk in an area where you live doesn't mean you have the right to harm them, it's meant to be a free world, not just yours to do what you want to do. But in saying this, how much responsibility lies with the parents of these kids that are meant to be looking after them. If you let them run free like animals with no rules, what do you think will happen to them. It certainly won't awards for being great citizens, it's more likely to be criminal records for their actions.

The problem is not the knives or the weapons. Because they would always exist. However the problem is the people and their characters. Why do they have such low regard for human life or for harming or killing their fellow human being. That is what the problem is. We live in a society where morality is at it's lowest. These youth see it as justifiable to stab someone for any petite reason without having any remorse or guilt. Murder is not even an issue to them or the life they took away. The only way to get rid of this problem short term is by the death penalty for everyone that murders unjustly. Don't imprison them but get rid of them. That would wake people up when they know that if they kill it is not just a prison sentence that but they could potentially be killing themselves too. As for long-term it would require a lot more work and effort in the way these children are raised, and their education, and who they associate with.

Even though they're both disturbing, I find knife crime a lot more disturbing than gun crime. You're removed with a gun, where stabbing is quite intimate. The mentality behind the crime is different, more viscous in a sense. Makes my skin crawl knowing young kids are resorting to this. Governments are not putting money where it truly needs to be, like bettering the lives of our young. Making such they have opportunities and programs that can provide skills, entertainment, education, and protection.

Growing up in the 90s/early 00s. The rap at the beginning of this said a lot. The mainstream pushed this crap to the hilt back then ( still do now) the way they talk, the attitude its an entire culture that was pushed upon a whole generation and now another one... its " cool" not a necessity for many. I know I grew up in bloody Peckham.
