Official Simple Little Life video of knife making - making a hidden tang knife. Here is my first attempt at a hidden tang knife. All in all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. No talking in this video at all. If you don't like the music, turn the volume down, queue your favourite playlist and you won't miss a thing. Cheers!

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

Just wanted to say that I really appreciated you keeping that blade getting yeeted on your buffer. I think that's the most dangerous (and perhaps most useful) tool in the shop. It's a great teaching that you left that part in. It only takes a fraction of a second for something bad to happen. Nicely done and taught.

I have watched your videos from the start of your channel, Each knife you produce gets better and better, I especially liked this video for the reason it was a detailed start to finish video, you put a lot of time and pride into the production of not only your knives but the videos that accompany them, Keep up the great work, its always a pleasure to watch your channel.

Newly discovered your channel and have to agree. Even with this video being done over a year ago, this work is stunning. Also very clear you've branched out, tried new types of knives, expanded your skill, and have learned how to make your channel and videos stronger. Keep it up - really great to see content creators like yourself stick with something and see the progress on multiple fronts! You're what makes KZfaq great - would have never thought I'd stumble upon blacksmithing/blade crafting in a million years but I've found something that I'd love to get started in when I have a space that would allow for the tools to begin the basics.

Great video, I learned a lot about making a hidden tang knife from this video. I am a very new knifemaker and I learned a lot about the details of fit and finish. Layout, metal fabrication using a mill, squaring up etc.. Thanks a lot.

I truly admire your precision and all of the steps you take to get perfection in the fit. Of course I also appreciate sitting similar precision in the finish... but I learn a lot by when I see HOW you achieve that "fit". Those videoed details matter to me. Thanks Jeremy! Now I want one!

That's a really good looking knife and also a very uncomplicated way of making a hidden tang handle. I was overcomplicating it in my head thinking I was going to have to cut the tang shape into some wood (going to make my first handle for a kitchen knife that had a mangled handle) so this video has been very helpful. I hope to have a respectable handle on this knife.

Great video. Good looking knife. You may consider squaring up the corners where the tang meets the blade after you do the heat treat. 90 degree angles during heat treating cause stress risers and a weak spot in the steel at the 90 degree corner. (thats why so many knives fail at the tang) I round off the corners to 1/8" and then square them after tempering. Just a thought. Cheers.

+Simple Little Life I was cleaning a grinding wheel once with a bunch of sharp steel disks that you would place against it. Long story short, the bolt was loose and 25 micro saw blades went flying. Let's just say that's the last time I'll ever doubt the need for safety gear, especially glasses.

What would you recommend as a start point to re-finish a blade to something of a satin matte type finish? This kitchen knife I am working on had the blade snap in half (was a big ol' blade too) and I re-profiled it (didn't keep a point on it, rounded it as it's a slicer now) and am going to have to redo a new handle but the finish is crappy. Eventually I hope to forge blades but until I finish my forge and get a good anvil I'm working in modifying knives, putting new edges on and handles for now.
