This is a job I have never been trusted with before! I have so much fun learning new things. One of my favorite parts about being a farmer is that I get to fill so many different roles. They're never-ending!
Send me your favorite snacks!! Or stickers! Or letters!! Or things that are special to where you're from!! I love it all. :)

Laura, all these wannabe women ("influencers", movie or tv stars, politicians, etc) who think they are role models for girls need to see what a real role model looks like and follow you. You are a Student and Teacher, a Business Owner and Entrepreneur, a KZfaq icon, a person with all sorts of skills that all farmers learn, and much, much more. You communicate so well as you are doing your work, making farming real. Your zest for learning more about farming is an inspiration. Your enthusiasm is so contagious. I look forward to each of your posts, and I've been around farming and farmers and did my share when I was younger, for many years. I do have a question though: when do you sleep? With everything else you are doing, I can't see where there's room for more than three or four hours for sleep, tops! 🤔😏😂 Dave

About a hundred years ago grandpa would cultivate the corn. It was a single horse and a single row with shields and steering discs. He sat on it and looked at his feet steering it. Usually the kids would do this work. On the third cultivation he would come back over the field and broadcast red clover seed. The corn would deplete so much of the nitrogen that he would let that field go fallow with the clover healing the soil. He would put cattle on it to keep the field low and also add manure. What a difference in my lifetime.

When I was a kid one of our neighbors (who was also a member of our church) was killed when he was switching anhydrous tanks. Apparently he got a face-full of gas, which causes you to reflexively inhale. He was killed almost instantly. When I was a little older I worked at a farm coop in Southeastern Minnesota. The guys who handled the anhydrous tanks would always bleed them off into a water tank that seemed like it was always upwind from me. I spent many hours smelling that stuff and it's a smell you don't forget. On a happier note, good for you Laura for working on becoming a pillar of the community by helping to coach the track team!

I grew up on a farm injecting lots so anhydrous ammonia, dangerously stuff. I work with it as a refrigerant now. We use it on a lot of hockey rinks and food processing facilities. Have to respect it for sure. 350 PPM and you won't know. You would be dead before you hit the ground. Anything over 50 PPM where supposed to use respirators, anything over 250 PPM we have to call fire department. Be safe young lady and double check every connection and be very slow and deliberate when you un hook hose. Don't feel like you have to rush anything when un hooking or hooking up. And that is the best way to disperse Ammonia, water breaks it down.

When I worked on a farm in the late 70's we didn't have cab tractors, they were all open cabs. The stuff we had to spray was NOT good to be around, breath or have skin exposure to. The Good Lord definitely looked after me during those years. So very glad this younger generation has "cabs", air conditioning and GPS (oh my gosh - GPS) You Go GIRL !!

Hello from Germany! I wish I could be with you and ride tracktors with you too. Unfortunately, the agriculture I grew up on no longer exists. The farmer, a close friend of my family, had to cease operations due to old age. To continue operating the farm you would have had to invest too much money. The regulations in Germany and the EU are very strict. At some point I will visit the USA. Most of all I want to visit a farm and if possible stay there for a few days and help. I miss working in the fields. Especially in the harvest time. I'm especially interested in the huge machines you have in America. I also find the type of cultivation interesting. I still know the old way, with plow and harrow. I am following your videos with great interest! Thank you that I can be a part of it on this path. I wish you lots of fun and success at work, and above all, everyone stays healthy!

Congrats to Grant and yourself for getting married. Im pretty sure it's your killer smile that got him hooked. To a lifetime of love, happiness and farming. No matter what your video is about as long as it comes from Laura Farms, I'm watching 110%

I am 62 yrs old with 3 daughters and 4 granddaughters. (No boys) All of them always think I would have rather had some sons. Its not true. Daughters and Granddaughters can be your legacy as well (if not better) than boys. This father has a legacy that will live long after he is gone. No one will remember how much money he had had or how big of a tractor he owned. His daughter will remember what kind of a father he was.......Isn't that all that matters???

This brings back wonderful memories. I delivered this product to farmers throughout Southern Alberta, 40 yrs ago. Worked for an Esso Agent. Pumped it from the delivery truck to the tank. Worked from sun up to sundown, even till after midnight some days. It was my spring, summer and sometimes fall employment between University classes. Perfectly safe if you are trained and take care. Never burned myself. Looks fun Laura. You have a good teacher. Love the farm and the country life. Worked for a farmer who leased over 7000 acres on the Blood Reserve as well. Now that was entertaining. Coyotes, skunk, elk, deer, moose, you name I saw it.

Nice to see what comes around by farming in the US. Brings back memories of about 40 years back. At that time I had a friend who lived on a small farm in Cuijk Netherlands (just under a big city Nijmegen) and I loved to help out at the farm. Driving the tractor, they had first a Ford and later a Lamborghini, with all kinds of machine attachments was my favourite. Years later during my Conservatory study I drove tractors in my vacations. Now I'm thinking:"I should have been doing that for a living". Well as a truckdriver it almost was similar to that. Love to see you driving and explaining the job and the machines. Work save and have fun.

Thank you for telling folks about what's going into and how dangerous getting the ground ready to plant corn. Like you I was out of College before I was put on the anhydrous drill. I did all the soy beans, oats and milo, in high school so this bring back memories. We did not have all the equipment that your family dose. We did all right and I am happy to say the family farm is still working to this day.

Nice to see you guys getting in there fields. Here in southern Michigan we have been warm but not enough to start anhydrous application. We normally start that in early April or late march . Our anhydrous tool bar is 50 feet wide we run it with a johndeere 9570rt. We do some regular sidress of nitrogen as well into the standing corn . We are slowly going away from anhydrous as it can be dangerous. Nice video keep up the good work and stay safe !

That tractor cab will not keep you safe from the ammonia. It could keep the concentration higher where you are breathing. Please look into an emergency respirator for any accident that may occur. I got gassed from 100 yards away from an open discharge valve on a nurse tank, (possible theft situation) so yes, get a 3m respirator that is rated for anhydrous ammonia. It will take you down/out fast.

Good Morning .. When I used to apply anhydrous I only had one tank And that was before auto track. .. In one field I had applied 5 tanks by mid afternoon .. Yes if you get just one drop of it on your skin it doesn't really start burning your skin until it touches it . My arms were covered in dust so when the drop fell it looked a marshmallow bubbling .. and no water on the tank .. I'm ready to watch your planting vlogs .

Hey there fellow farmer coming at you, whoot whoot. My crops are much smaller than your own and usually done at least up till recently under the stealth of a large basement facility using the latest hydroponic techniques. My crops make so many people so happy I love it. But I’m jealous at all the cool equipment you get to drive around in. I guess you need since profits are measured in acres versus square feet for myself. Anyway you very pretty and have that bubbly cute personality everyone is eluding to but for some reason won’t say it. People enjoy being around your type personality. Possibly consider being a farm personality selling that type equipment. You could prob do it part time and make a killing at the same time. Just one of my antreapbuner ideas I come up with. As of now my ideas pay very well to boot. The market has changed but the demand has only increased. God bless my country. And your family.
