The footage is from the high ridge (Hohnekamm) in noth Germany. It was minus 12 degrees. We fought with warhammer and poleaxe. For savety reasons we use rubber heads on both weapons. The next hospital was a 5 hour walk and 30 minutes of driving away. My armor is made of titanium and hardened steel corresponds to models from 1485, my friend Niklas uses armour and armament from the 16th century and a gothic sallet.
At the end of the fight I nearly died there. The helmet was filled with snow and I couldn't breath or cry. My friend Niklas noticed that I fought different at the end and let me go. With the last of my strength I managed to take off my helmet and breath again!
Niklas instagram is amazing, risk a look!

😅 Indeed. But did you wear armor?
@Kameolontti
@Kameolontti 4 ай бұрын
@@dequitem -30C is not that bad yet, you just need a proper set of full woolen set, toe to head. Wool socks, wool pants, wool shirt, thin wool jacket and a wool underhelmet piece. Considering your straps already have a small amount of allowance and that the whole wool layer only adds like ~3mm of thickness you don't even need to have the armor adapted for the cold. When I get my own kit I will look at how it feels. The key to cold is in having a proper set of wool under against skin and then another layer that will block wind. The difficulty to me is that you easily start to sweat and normally in very cold you need to be able to constantly shift on and off additional layers of clothing to avoid sweating. With armor you often need an assistant to do these operations and it quickly becomes impractical and thus you easily end up sweating during intense activity and the sweat will literally kill you as you can't practically dry clothes in cold. Also in -47C which they get in Siberia steel starts to become brittle. Never been to that cold. We need a few people to make a few videos of armor in cold. I profess to my ignorance on the subject and I think it would be an interesting topic. Please, if you would?

I like the fact that you lost the fight due to snow in your helmet! Imagine this in a real combat situation... I wonder how many knights or wealthy mercenaries died because of natural conditions during a fight... slipping on ice, drowning in a small stream, suffocating on snow, being blinded by dust... just the one second your oponent needs to get in advantage (and kill you).

I've been wondering for a while, how necessary do you guys feel sabatons are for this kind of fighting? Is it something you'd feel confident in getting away with not using? I've in a bunch of places they're very uncomfortable to fight in (which is supposedly part of the reason they went out of use in the 16th Century for people fighting on foot), but it's not like I have actual handa on experience with them. Do they really bother someone in armor that much? If so would you still feel safe not using them for fighting other people in armor?

Geil.

omg that was dangerous the one hit with the mace started dodging after the 3rd hit, without armor those strikes would have killed him after 2nd shot no doubt... maces are deadly against armor
