This is some video footage of when Nick Albin, aka Chewy from @chewjitsu and I had a chance to train together. We got to exchange ideas, explore technical considerations and roll around a little bit.

This flow roll allows us the pace to work through positions and submission opportunities without trying to maul each other and to move at a learning speed. Also, I want everyone to understand that I realize Chewy was being very nice to me and not gunning for so many opportunities he had to catch me. But this roll wasn’t about that for either of us, which immediately earned my respect for him on a whole new level. He is a fantastic dude that I truly can’t say enough good about.

Very Ironic. I was just watching your videos with my son showing him different techniques on how to escape a triangle choke and came across this one. I went to a couple class at Derby City back in the day. Still have one of their shirts. Chewy is awesome. Thanks for the videos.

That was aaaahhhh-mazing! I would have loved to hear what you guys were saying though... instead of instrumental music I'd rather hear the music of the mat (grunts, groans, heavy breathing, and a little playful shit talking),but it was still really fun to watch. I love you guys!

Mostly self deprecating talk from me and Chewy being his polite self. One exchange was me saying that I play a lot of Truck and don’t go against many people who reverse me, and he recognized why I was happy about that.

I just realised I think this is the first time I've see you roll live Eli. Would love to see more videos of you sparring: gi, nogi, flow roll, comp rounds, ibjjf or sub grappling rules - it'd be really interesting to see how you are stylistically!

Thanks but I hate the idea of posting live rolls for the most part personally....however, I totally understand the usefulness of those type videos and plan to do some narrated rolls in the near future

Great flow, a lot can be learned from this style rolling. I was waiting for some calf slicers in those stalled out bolo's. I think Eli almost reached for it at one point 🤙🏻

Chewy shut down any chance I had at completing either of those things, and it did it with just small adjustments.

@@KnightJiuJitsu yeah in those positions especially at the black belt level every micro adjustment can change everything. Not that y'all were going hard for subs anyway. Great flow, Hate that I missed your seminar at Tenacity in Tracy City, TN. Would have enjoyed training with you. Maybe I can bring you down to Leviathan Academy in the future🤙🏻

I like how quite often Eli instinctively closes the distance in many situations, often by holding the back of Chewy's neck or moving inwards towards him, always thinking of eliminating the possibility of a strike even though striking isn't allowed in BJJ. I think that probably comes from training under Royce Gracie in the self defense side of BJJ (GJJ).

I used to be a lot more particular about that for years and years, trying to never get into a place to receive too many strikes. Now I will play a lot more sportive and give things up but it’s still habit.

I wish I could do some flow rolling at my club. Everyone rolls so aggressively like they are competing at the ADCC :/

Crazy how when high level black belts (and even brown belts) roll they barely consume any energy...However, when us white belts roll, we blow our entire gas tank in the first 30 seconds 😂🤣 I guess everything comes with time and experience 🤷♂️
