follow along as I figure out how I want to upcycle this thrifted yellow wool yarn, as ideas spark in the process, and all the steps of an oversized + soft raglan sweater come together to form a really really perfect improvised garment! I hope this gives you an idea of how my brains work out a no pattern approach a little bit more, and that you might want to unravel and reknit something for yourself! You never really know what you’re gonna get with these projects, which I personally love. And buying a lot of new yarn for a project can be super expensive - plus, if it’s a smaller needle, very time consuming. This took about two and a half days and was all thrifted, upcycled yarn (except the continuous strand of white alpaca, which binds it all together colourwise):-)
This is how I do it - and probably the closest we’ll get to a tutorial at least in the foreseeable future :-) I’m just not wired for instructionals!! I’m very happy to let you all in on my process though.
Also, if you’re curious, I used the slip stitch method used for stripes on circular needles (since it’s a spiral, so the rows of garter stitches won’t align otherwise) - figured it was genuinely easier than knitting the front and back separately and attaching them at the end (which works well, but not with a raglan construction!). So I just switched between knitting a row of knit and then purl, plus the slipped stitch at the beginning of every row :-)
Hope you’re good!
xx
