Thank you for not being unpleasant about petiteknits sizes. In Europe it is rare to get sizing anything like in America. Even in men's stores it tends to only go up to 2 xl. And Scandinavia even more so.

I believe there is a Manchego sheep from which the cheese and the wool comes from. :D Also, with those stitches Kate picked up. Kate, are you willing to go around again with a needle? Cause basically you've picked up some stitches from the wrong row. So go around again. Keep the stitches that don't have any on top of them. Any that have some on top, try to figure out which stitch goes in the same row as the kept stitches -- those should line up. If you don't do that, you'll have a round that goes from one row to the next and not a straight row of stitches! After you go around again, you should be good. Most likely, you'll just be picking up those stitches that are on top. THEN you can start knitting. :D. Good luck!

Wooldreamers are down the road from me (same province), and LaMancha is a big cheese-making area ("manchega" are sheep from LaMancha, and "queso manchego" is the cheese - LaMancha is also famous for Don Quixote and our windmills ). Laura, I was test-knitting a pattern for Thea Colman in Saona before the summer, using the same color as you. It was a project that I was working on while I accompanied my mum in the hospital, but since she died I just haven't had the heart to pick it up again. It's a great yarn, though.

Kate, I'm also wondering if you are dealing with any short rows. I would place a life line with what you have, use a barber cord, pull your needle out. Pick a stitch that you know is maybe the lowest, pick up the right leg of each stitch so they are oriented correctly on your needle. If it's only a round or 2 you should be able to pick the stitches out. It's dark, I would do it with good light and go slowly. It will work! Do a few stitches at a time, take breaks.

I cut the bottom rib of my son’s Brooklyn tweed Fort sweater to add length and had the same problem. I had to rip back many more rows because of the unevenly cut stitches. It was in the cast iron Colorway so dark, it took forever stitch by stitch but it worked. Good luck Also the wooldreamers yarn is made from the fleece of the manchego sheep. The fleeces were often wasted.

Catching the podcast late, but Kate, it looks like you picked up stitches from different rows when you went to fix your collar. I recommend trying to get all on the row (although to be honest I've never tried to knit in the other direction when I haven't been all on the same row). I go to a place where I have a stitch directly on the needle, and then worked left and right from there. Then I used a mix of other cables and dpns as I worked around.

Ohhh, I'm also knitting Aphra and I absolutely get your 'I just want to knit a sweater'. Isabell is running the TYP KAL and before I joined in the round I posted there that it was a little like solving a puzzle 😄. But I loved picking up stitches for the front, it was so satisfying! And after joining in the round it's so much fun, because you know the lace pattern by then and you're zipping through stockinette; absolute joy 🥰 Have fun at PUES and Rhinebeck, I'm looking forward to you talking about it afterwards so I can live vicariously here in Berlin. Kate, I'm glad you are so smartly fearless with your too-wide collar solution. I think it will work, and I would suggest trying it on a re-created swatch first to see which pick up/knit tecnique you like the best. Good luck and please let us know the result! P.S. I did the same thing as you did with lifeline and cutting the toe off a toe-up sock to reknit the toe. It's still on the needle and you have inspired me to try fixing it the same way now. How hard can it be??? P.S. Yes, another sweater for Devin!!!

Kate - I found myself in the same nightmare with my husband’s Gib II sweater (Andrea Mowry.) I ran a needle through what I thought was the bottom of the loose, sloppy collar and then cut the collar off with scissors. What resulted was a HOT MESS. While I had the right number of stitches on the needles, the stitches were all from different rows and I had random bits of yarn poking out here and there. Here’s what I did after screaming in horror at what I had done. I ripped back all the short pieces of yarn so that I could be sure all stitches were on a yarn that was connected to the rest of the sweater even if there were loose yarns above a stitch. That mean that some stitches were not represented on the top row. Then I began knitting slowly with a crochet hook in hand to pull up any skipped stitches to the topmost row (I hope that makes sense.). It was painstaking but it totally worked. The collar is much better now! It was a horror show at first but I’m really glad I did it. Best of luck to you in fixing that collar! Have fun at Rhinebeck!!

I did exactly the same thing as Laura described, namely picking up another line of stitches in front of the original collar, that was too wide. I turned mine into a turtleneck and just love it now. I got the idea from Sophia from The Knitters' League.

I dont think you will have stitches running as an issue. I would go each stitch around and try to pick stitches at a consistent row. Not up some and down. There will be one end from where you cut. That could drop. Otherwise just tidy it and start knitting. It will be off a half a stitch when you start knitting. It doesn't perfectly match, but if you go straight to ribbing i dont think it will be noticeable. If your super anxious about stitches dropping you could machine or hand sew a line row of sewing. Almost like when you steak. Best of luck!

@knittingpossect
@knittingpossect 10 ай бұрын
You just cast on the same number of stitches as for the ribbing and start knitting from the first row after the ribbing. Then you can go back and pick up the stitches for the ribbing and knit as many rows as called for (or customize it for your preference). This method gives you some flexibility to create the tightness/looseness of the ribbing.
