woman, i could hug you. I'm at the very beginning of my knitting journey, and though I can crochet, knitting has been a little challenging. I have watched at least 4 other videos of this raglan and had NO CLUE what was going on. You made this SO easy to understand. I know i can do this now without confusion. AND another hug for doing a smaller version so it sinks in and chunky yarn so we can see your stitches. I watched the entire video glued to the screen. No yawns here. You're a fantastic teacher! Your pace and vocal instruction are right on the money, even for a beginner. Subscribed! Added to my list, and even bookmarked. Even jumped on your website and signed up for the newsletter. I don't see a need to watch any other channel. THANK YOU!

Brilliant knitting video. Lovely clear instructions. I have purchased your pattern and have now finished the cute little hoodie. Took two days and I am really pleased with it. Will be making more for my future Grandchild. I have never used double pointed needles, but with your in depth video, you gave me the courage to try. And it was a success. Thank you for taking the time to make a great video. Thanks again. Diane (uk)

One of my goals for 2016 is to knit myself a sweater. I've downloaded your Zasio Sweater, but I think this project is going in the queue ahead of the Zasio. It will be a good learning experience and some of the techniques look the same. Presently finishing up my first pair of Align Fingerless Mitts and they're great. PS...Love your nails!

+Grace Hill Hi Grace, that's a great idea. I had to chime in because I did pretty much the same thing and it worked so well! I used Staci's "Learn to Knit a Woman's Sweater" pattern and how-to videos to knit my very first sweater ... about two years ago. It's on her website. I can't recommend her tutorials highly enough. My sweater came out really well and now my best friend wears it. If you're on Ravelry, my project is at: www.ravelry.com/projects/KnitsByCampfires/learn-to-knit-a-womans-sweater

I was worried about picking up 24 stitches along the body because I had followed a different pattern from a different company for another baby sweater, and in that sweater the button band drew in. I sent my worries to the pattern developer, and they said to stay with the pattern since my gauge was right. It turned out perfectly. This was a quick and easy knit that will last for many generations of grand kids. So easy to knit. Stay with the pattern. It is done correctly!

Hi, I'm thrilled you made a baby sweater tut! LUV THIS! I'm knitting a baby sweater now, & that underarm area is tricky. My sweater looks loose due to those "backward loop cast on stitches". I hope I can use my 9"Circulars to close the under arm & knit the sleeves. ***I like this pattern, because it uses bulky yarn.

I have spent HOURS online with minimal success searching for a chunky baby cardigan pattern. I visited my LYS and started a similar, but hoodless, cardigan using DK yarn (the label doesn't say DK, but I'm using US 7 needles). NOT BULKY, as they didn't know of such a pattern. 🤦🏼‍♀️😩 It's a top-down raglan pattern, just like you've demonstrated here. Wish I'd found this video BEFORE I started!!!!!!!!! I didn't understand the pattern instructions for the sleeve -- there was an increase in the first row, then decreasing. ????!!!! So I am knitting one (test) sleeve without any decreasing. I think it will be fine, especially as it's for a baby, and should be easy to put on/take off. So far it looks fine, and I can always tip if it's terrible. (I noticed that this sweater's sleeves do not appear to be shaped either. Although I haven't seen the actual pattern.) Your instructions and filming are spot-on. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀😍

That is ADORABLE!! I wish it was available in toddler sizes. My 6mo grandson is already in 18 mos clothes, so this wouldn't work for him... I wouldn't dare make anything smaller than a 2T or even 3T, as he's growing SO fast (and big!)

why not double the cast on number for the biggest size, given in the pattern and you will have a larger size
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 8 жыл бұрын
That seems like it would work, but just doubling numbers would make a sweater that no longer had correct proportions to fit. This pattern comes in three sizes - 0-3 months, 4-8 months, 9-12 months.

I've just come up with a genius idea that means I never have to use scrap yarn for holding stitches again! You do need 16 in needles or at the very least another cord to do it. Slip the stitches onto the 16 in or chord and then just knit the stitches of the first row that you are knitting onto the double pointed needles, spaced as you fancy!
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 8 жыл бұрын
+Al Malmsten - yes, that's why interchangeable needle sets include cord stoppers - so you can use the cords on their own, with the needles removed, as stitch holders. :)

Instead of the 3 needle bind off for the hood, could you Kitchener stitch the hood closed? I can do either one, just wondered...I'm one of those weirdos who actually LIKES the Kitchener stitch! :-)

@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 8 жыл бұрын
+Catherine Noble - yes, it will work, but I'm not sure that I recommend it. The 3-needle BO provides some structure in the hood, and the Kitchener stitch would not. I haven't test knit it with the Kitchener stitch, but I'm thinking the structure the 3NBO gives is probably important, since the hood is a lot of fabric.

I'm curious about something in the construction. Is there any reason you couldn't use kitchener stitch to finish the hood? Three needle looks easier, but kitchener leaves no seam so there is no bulk to possibly irritate a tiny head. Does three needle give better definition to the hood, or is it completely a personal preference matter?
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 8 жыл бұрын
+324cst - from a previous comment/answer - yes, it will work, but I'm not sure that I recommend it. The 3-needle BO provides some structure in the hood, and the Kitchener stitch would not. I haven't test knit it with the Kitchener stitch, but I'm thinking the structure the 3NBO gives is probably important, since the hood is a lot of fabric.

Does this sweater have a bigger size? For Adults? It was such a fun one to make for my kids. Wanted to knit one for my husband.
@Lexxie45
@Lexxie45 7 жыл бұрын
I was looking for and easy adult sweater with a hood to knit for myself when I saw the picture for this one and I knew I had to have it. Even without a written pattern it's going to be easy after watching this tutorial. Since you already made a kid size sweater, all you have to do is measure your husband's neck and figure out a comfortable size for him. Then check your gauge and adjust your cast on stitch numbers accordingly. Then just knit as you did the smaller size. You might want to make button holes all the way down the length of the sweater instead of just 2 on the top. That's how I'm going to knit mine. Hope that helped.

Thank you for this great tutorial. I have a question: what adjustments need to be made to the pattern and the size of needles if I want to use less bulkier yarn for this project, say Medium 4?
@verypinkknits
@verypinkknits 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry - altering the gauge in the pattern really requires starting from scratch and rewriting the entire pattern. If you're looking for something like this in a different yarn weight, I suggest using the Advanced Search Ravelry feature to find a different pattern in the gauge you're after.

+karen baker - thanks for the note! Yes, the coupon code was only for a limited time, but the pattern is still available.

Just out of curiosity, could you replace the three needle bind off with the kitchener stitch?

Hey I was just wondering when a pattern says continue st st for 3 rows. and your knitting back and forth. Is that 3 knit and 3 purl?

"St st" is an abbreviation for "stockinette stitch". If you're knitting a flat piece (back and forth, like you said), that is knit one row, purl one row, repeated throughout the piece.
