Das Messer taugt höchstens als Brieföffner. Er verwendet zum Herstellen der Klinge Bewehrungsstahl, also St 37. Dieser Stahl ist sehr flexibel, da er im Stahlbeton entstehende Zugkräfte aufnehmen soll. Er weist aber einen sehr niedrigen Kohlenstoffgehalt auf. Der ist aber wichtig, um Stahl überhaupt härten zu können. Beim Säureätzen sieht man sehr gut, dass kein härtbarer Stahl da ist, der würde sich nämlich sehr dunkel färben. Die Idee mit dem Torsionsdamast ist sicher gut gemeint, funktioniert aber nur bei der Verwendung von verschiedenen Stählen, was ja eigentlich der Sinn von Damaszener Stahl ist. Der Griff ist Geschmackssache. Dass er die Klinge aus dem Stahl schneidet und nicht direkt die Form schmiedet, finde ich persönlich überhaupt nicht schlimm. Schließlich ist ja im Videotitel von der Herstellung eines Messer die Rede und nicht direkt vom Schmieden. Und wie heißt es ja so schön: Ad astra per aspera 😉

Very good video. But I noticed that you don't wear protective glasses when cutting and filing the materials. I don't want to nitpick, but it's dangerous to work without personal protective equipment.

Das Muster der Linge sieht gut aus. Ist aber auch das einzige. Die Klinge ist eher zurecht geschnitten als geschmiedet, finde ich eigentlich schade. Natürlich ist die Klinge scharf. Fragt sich nur wie lange 🤔 Da dieser Stahl nicht wirklich hoch gradig Härt bar ist, wird die Schärfe nicht lang anhalten 🧐 Kommen wir zum Griff, Der Messing Beschlag, die Idee ist gut. Aber die Ausführung .... Warum nur eine halbe Form, beim giesen ? Dann auch noch so unsauber 🤨 Dies sind so Dinge, wo man dann echt enttäuscht ist, wenn man so etwas sieht 😕

A lot of these comments are saying the rebar is low carbon steel. My question to yall is, what is the grade of the rebar he is using? Cause while it is more than likely grade 40, which, let's be honest, it probably is, y'all are correct. What if someone uses grade 60, 80, or 100?

Rebar is a low carbon steel. If you watch enough of this guy's videos you'll see he uses a lot of junk steel to make knives. He probably had to sharpen it after cutting that banana.....L0L

Not to be a complete naysayer, but I can sharpen a "butter knife" to shaving sharpness... but it won't "hold" the edge because it's inferior steel. You've made a decent knife, but it is made from 'mild steel' with a low carbon content.

Borax. Laundry detergent aid. It melts on the hot steel to prevent oxides and forge scale from building on welding surfaces

It’s boron, or more likely borax. It acts as a flux to aid in the hammer welding process

OBS: Este pó sse chama BORAX, este produto é usado na Agricultura como um tipo de adubo pra correção de deficiência deste produto para determinados produtos como por Ex: Brócolis, Em fim , serve para vários seguimentos, OBS: No caso da cutelaria ele tem a função de fundir pedaços de aço entre si ,este processo se chama CALDEAMENTO , na cutelaria é usado pra confecção do aço Damasco, espero ter ajudado a quem possa interessar.

Is it some special type of rebar ? The few times I tried to weld it……it basically just melted away….. And that was with a $60 Hitbox welder. I doubt it is worth a shit unless there is better (higher carbon) quality rebar.
