Testing four different tire plugging kits on the same tire, at the same time and then pressure testing the repairs. For a more detailed demonstration of how to use each kit, click on the following links below:
Tire Plug Strip:
• Tire Plug Repair Kit T...
Mushroom Plug :
• Tire Mushroom Plug Rep...
Sticky String Repair :

Tire Repair Screw:

The kits demonstrated in the video are:
1. Tire Plug Strip: This consists of a rubber strip which is inserted into the tire using an open-tipped insertion tool. The middle of the strip is pushed into the tire, leaving about ½ inch of each end remaining outside the tire. As you withdraw the tool it bunches the strip inside the tire which acts as an internal plug. The strip ends are then cut away using a blade. Some kits add rubber cement to the strip, some use a lubricant/sealant and some kits don’t add anything to the strip before insertion into the tire.
2. Mushroom Plug: A nozzle is placed in through the hole in the tire with the help of a probe tool. Then, the head of the mushroom plug is squeezed through the nozzle by rotating a force screw inside the core of the main body of the tool. The nozzle is then pulled out of the tire, leaving only the mushroom stem protruding from the tire. This is cut away using a blade. The mushroom plug kit does not use any rubber cement or any other type of glue.
3. Sticky Strip: This Chemi-cure kit is similar to the tire plug strip kit but this one uses a closed tip insertion tool. The center of the strip is pushed into the tire, rotated a few turns and pulled back out through the tire. The excess strip outside the tire is then cut away using a blade. The rubber strip cures into and becomes part of the tire. This kit does not require any rubber cement or any other type of glue.
4. Tire Repair Screw: This kit is the quickest to use and is basically a small screw, covered in a rubber sealant, which is screwed into the tire, sealing the puncture.
These kits are designed for tubeless tires and are generally used as emergency and temporary puncture repairs. I am only demonstrating how to use the repair kits. I am not endorsing or recommending the use of either of the kits as a replacement for a professional or permanent tire repair. If you find this video helpful, please subscribe to my channel.

It would be interesting to see how your repairs hold up to use.

Last year, I was on a trip on my motorcycle and had run over a nail which resulted in a slow but steady leak. I was unable to repair it by more conventional methods so I got a Number 12 sheet metal screw ( not a wood screw ) and screwed it into the hole. If I had some rubber cement, I would have applied that to the threads first. Using a sheet metal screw is important because it has big, coarse threads and will therefore grip the rubber better. Within 100 miles, as expected, the screw head just wore away to nothing, leaving the threaded section in the tire. I didn't lose a single pound of air before getting the tire replaced. I now carry a sheet metal screw and stubby screw driver with me ( along with more conventional plugs ) in my repair kit. From my experience, almost anything will work because the heat of driving will vulcanize the tire and the plug, whatever that plug is made of. I have had nails and screws in my tires on both my motorcycle and my car and after sufficient miles, any air leaking stops. It's mostly about ease of installation. I've never seen the tire repair screws and they would get my vote if I didn't already have the rope type.

I've used sticky strips and rubber glue many times and they always held up for the remaining life of the tire. Never have seen the others used.

I use the screws and both my front tyres have them in. No a problem with them at all. I do wind mine in a bit further than you did though.

I've just done the mushroom plug repair to one of my tyres, I got a screw in it and the tyre repair places refused to repair it claiming it's too near the sidewall even though it's on the tread a good inch in so I did the mushroom plug repair myself, I swapped the tyre out to the rear and so far it's holding up fine.

A real puncture doesn't remove any rubber from the tyre like a drill does. It just pushes the rubber to the side without usually damaging the carcase..

The screw type is the easiest and fastest. Least effort or muscle power needed. I used once and so far so good.

Putting over 50 lbs. in a tire is playing with fire. I saw a truck tire explode with 50 lbs. in it. The tech went to the hospital because he was too close. It sounded like a shotgun . Test a tire patch by driving the vehicle under normal air pressure.

When you are on the side of the road one day with a hole in your tire, and no help for miles around, and AAA is backed up for several hours, think about your comment.

The first three, i got no problem with & got them in a kit in my car. The screw type, im kinda of skeptial of that one, cause it doesnt grip the actual inside of the tire, so it cant be forced out easily.

Don't tires normally get reinstated AFTER the puncture has been repaired not before you've started the repair? At least that's how I've always repaired punctures 🤔

I was expecting the screw repair to blow out, if that had a chemical surface or rubber solution added it would be even better, definitely the easiest to put in, just a shame it will always look like a black screw in the tyre unless you leave some of it protruding from the tyre surface and cut the 'screw head' off?

How legal are these plugs? Would the MOT pass this OK?
@knobsdialsandbuttons
@knobsdialsandbuttons 5 күн бұрын
As far as I know they're legal in the UK and Ireland as long as they're on the treaded area of the tire and not the shoulder or sidewall. You'd need to look up about other countries as they may have different rules regarding plug repairs.
