I'm not sure there's ever been a more star crossed couple than Gary Ewing and Valene Clements. The casting here is on point, and that moment where Gary grabs the plates..sigh. magic

Guessing they met about 1960-1961.Bobby and Pam must have been about 13. Gary and Val were about 16 here.JR was about 22.Jock was probably trying to get Don Draper to do an ad for Ewing Oil by inviting him,Mr Sterling and Mr Cooper to Southfork for some Bourbon n Branch as well as dinner.

Victor Zapata In 1986 there was a movie called Dallas: The Early Years, which focused on Jock, Digger, and Ellie when they were younger. It also showed JR, Bobby, Gary, Cliff, and Pam as kids.

@@robertrodriguez787 Ray’s mother’s husband stole her diary from 1946 in which she wrote about Ray’s first birthday. That means Ray was born in 1945. We know Bobby was born in 1949 because that was the birth year on his gravestone in the dream season. Gary was presumably born in 1943. I expect he was a “goodbye baby.” Jock likely didn’t know Ellie was pregnant with Gary when he was wounded in the war and wrote JR a letter in he he assumed JR was the only son he would have. JR looked to be about 15 at the 1951 Southfork barbecue, so he would have been born in 1936. The Early Years movie retconned Pam by having her be alive in 1951. Previously, she was a fetus in November of 1952.

The "waitress in over her head" scene was a trope for a while, but it never quite made sense. Since when do diners only hire one waitress? And the customers are always complaining and in a hurry.

I believe that J.R. always did have a thing for his sister-in-laws. He did make an interesting comment to Pam once along those lines. He may have tried to get with Val after Gary left her and Lucy at Southfork and that's why she ran. I can't imagine Miss Ellie or Jock making her leave. Hell, the place was big enough plus she would have been free babysitting for Lucy. LOL!

Jeffrey T. Steptoe Gary is played by Andrew Fielder and Val was played by Amy Stock.

The sixth season episode called "Out of the Past." Val had lost her babies and her memory, moved to Tennessee and was waitressing as Verna Ellers. Gary found out and came to town to take her back to Knots

I actually remember this episode - Val had amnesia and was waitressing and Gary was looking for her and found her in a restaurant working ! Awesome 👏
