Aristotle said, "Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom." Knowing yourself is the process of understanding you - the human being - on deeper levels than the surface. It is an unpredictable road that you must be willing to explore. It brings you face-to-face with your deep self-doubts and insecurities. It makes you take a serious look at the way you are living your life and put it to question.
In this podcast, we are joined by Anghel to discuss the importance of knowing yourself through introspection and through one's relationship with God.

3:48 My understanding is that Marx interpreted religion as an indicator of a societal problem that is brought on by undesirable, material conditions, conditions which were perpetuated under capitalism. The working class tended to be the religious followers, not the religious leaders (think of monarchs and the ruling class in particular). Marx explicitly states in the same work, "The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness." In other words, Marx seems to view religion as a tool for the working class to cope with their suffering under exploitative, undesirable conditions, more than something that should be desired or prescribed by societies, as it distracts them from recognizing the reality of their material conditions, which might lead them to otherwise revolt against higher classes. Think of any society where a specific religion is exploited by the ruling class, where the average worker has effectively no say, and religion can be viewed as counter-revolutionary, it is an acceptance of those classist systems that someone like Marx would likely be opposed to, and a dynamic that I wish were more thoroughly explored by atheists and the religious alike.
