I have a century akms and it throws shells like 60'. KNS piston made a huge difference, and it's now a super soft shooter. I Love KNS!! ❤

Don't forget to notice wear patterns on the receiver and bolt. Sam5's were notoriously overgassed and beating themselves to death which took Arsenal about a year and a half to recognize but only after massive efforts from people outside the company and a cool dude who was with the company for a short time.

I'm glad I learned all this from your channel. My dad and I were both laughing at how freaking far the casing were being launched out of my SLR-106F. We were shooting in his backyard, targets were only about 65-75 feet away, and the casings were being thrown at about 2:00 to the right at at least half the distance as the bullets were going to the target. We were still recovering cases later on that we couldn't find the first time. And I remember thinking to myself, "This kicks a lot for a 5.56!". Sounds like I do need a KNS Piston.

I used a KNS piston in my PSL to tame it down a bit. It was ridiculously over gassed. I also reload, and got a shit ton of . 311 174g pulls, which are kinda heavy, again .. the adjustability of the KNS, help to keep the heavy rock loads from beating my receiver to death.

Just got a DPM Recoil kit. Brilliant for SubSonic. Swap a spring in seconds and your back to normal loads. Very underrated item.

It didn't work at all in my gf3. This answered the questions i had on why it wasn't working. Makes sense now. 😅 🤙

Have one of the first batch of SAM5’s and it was sending the casings into orbit. Upgraded to the Kns and took about 30 clicks using brass cased 5.56 to find sweet spot. Using a BD-2 brake on it, recoil is incredibly light, even more so than a m90 with jMac 3 chamber brake or a legit dissipator (rifle length gas system). Just wish I didn’t have to go Kns after already paying a lot for the rifle itself.

Good advice. I bought a new WASR10 which was a cheek slapper. I changed out the muzzle brake and it got better then I did the KNS route and she is a sweet shooter and very accurate now. Shoot first then then evaluate. Rinse and repeat until you get what you want.

The alg recoil spring can help with punch

I went through a similar thing with an ar build. Its a 6mm arc 16" rifle length gas. I shouldve known with the 2 inch dwell time but i have to run my superlative arms adjustable gas block on the 0 bleed off, 0 restriction setting to get it to cycle reliably. On the other hand i have a vepr that ejects brass at super sonic speeds. Cant wait to get my kns installed

Good video. I have 2 kns pistons and maybe would have eventually gotten more without this video. Both of my kns pistons are in bulgarian 5.56 guns. Sam5 and slr106. They desperately needed kns pistons and the sam5 needed it the worst probably. They run like sewing machines now. "Is that full auto?"-People at the range. Some of my PSA guns need pistons but not like the bulgarian.

After what an adjustable gas block did for my AR Im excited to get an adjustable piston for my Polish WBP AK because it chunks brass or steel into the next county LoL

The PSA AK-P GF3 is undergassed. The ALG Defense Recoil Spring causes it to short stroke.

Kns piston in my PSA gf5e was a welcomed improvement. Tuning is half way running a 9mm bore suppressor. I would opt for a piston over a spring

I have a PSA AK the soviet arms line ....good rifel and ya the rounds fly like 30 feet away for sure but that gun has so much gas coming out I haft to wear safety glasses when I shoot it because of gas blow back in my eyes when I shoot it!!! Probably need to dial it back some.....

Have a WASR 10. Thought about it for a long time if I would need a KNS piston. I’ve decided I like the reliability of being over gassed and didn’t get the upgrade.

I was really upset with my Zpap. Everything was perfect from the factory and I didn’t have an excuse to change anything! (I did swap the trigger for an alg)

My m92 would probably really benefit from it in its current build. I'm using a 4 piece flash hider from AKBuilder and it adds to the already kind of gassy gun. It slings my shells pretty far and the gas captured by the flash hider actually find a way back into my face as if im shooting it suppressed almost. If I shoot without glasses it irritates my eye. I was thinking about a KNS piston and a BFS3 Binary trigger.

Solid points now that good akm’s are so expensive. Slightly over gassed does ensure reliability but definitely leads to premature wear. Back when saigas were$200 and moving the trigger group was $100 plus an hour or two of work, I wouldn’t care if it tossed the cases 40 feet 😂

I just went back to the FFL I got my zpap m70 at in August to get the dead air Wolverine. It was the last one in the store. It’s the same one he showed me that was on the display when I told him I eventually wanted to suppress it. Same employee helped me out too. I’ve read that the AGP-A-20L and AGP-A-10 piston models will both work in my AK. I’ve got to measure my piston to figure which one for certain. Can’t wait for my first can! 7 months… fingers crossed.

My Maadi was so overgassed it would TEAR brass cases apart when trying to eject..it got a KNS piston. My SAM 7SF was fine, as is my Draco (what a sweet little shooter❤) so I felt no need to replace the factory gas system. And, of course, my M90 comes with a tunable gas system from the factory. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I like how you put the slant brake on the cleaning rod when the suppressor is on. Definitely won't lose it now!

My mini beryl is pretty soft shooting, but slings brass insanely far. I've stood next to a semi about 6ft out and it easily went over the tractor and 10-15 ft past it.

I purchased my first PSA AK102 a short while back and it was so under gassed, it would short stroke 50% of the time with the stock piston. Sent it to Halcyon and Dan opened up the port 0.018 of an inch and added the KNS piston. I can now open the KNS 20 clicks and It is a wonderful experiance shooting it. Now I just need to find a proper firing pin to cure the light primer strikes. PSA should have done better on this gun.

Out of all my 556 AK'S I've only had to drop 2 kns pistons in.

I just found out today about the 13 position Definative Arms tunable system. I'd love to try that sometime too.

chop ur piston in half, thread it and install some nuts, you can extend it or shorten it. extending will increase cycle force, shortening will reduce it. ive never seen it done anywhere but I've done it on mine (was denting brass) and I have close to 3k on it. 1h work, 3 dollar cost if you have a threading die and an angle grinder and 2 braincells to rub together. I REALLY need to finally make a video on that.

Start doing reviews on new import Zastavas z70/z85/z92. Especially since those are the majority of AKs people can get now without custom gunsmiths.

On my 5.45 Galil Ace, my KNS piston is basically off, but I assume because of different weight or gas bleed, it does reduce recoil just a bit. I got it in case I ever decide to throw a can on it. Also the dealer I bought my Ace from installed the wrong pun in my piston in my gun, and I had huge problems cycling till I took it to a gunsmith. He fixed it by putting the right pin in, and charged me $10.

Put one in MAK90 and it’s easy to short stroke if you don’t know what you’re doing. Also like Klay said in other videos… AMMO has a part

Great video. My wbp 556 needed a kns piston. Used the small diameter port for mine. 5-7 clicks from all the way open tames it. Soft recoil compared to the rear trunion bashing malfunction stick it once was

My psa gf3 can't handle the slightest bit of the KNS, but it made a world of difference on my SGL-21. If your building a PSA I would highly recommend the precision armament heavy duty muzzle break. Makes a world of difference.

Thanks for the info. I've never even thought about any of my AKs being over gased. But I have never tried a surpressor on any. I've never heard Rob Ski recommend adjustable pistons. I thought AKs are supposed to be overgassed. They are designed to run no matter how dirty or how much crap they are exposed to. In Afghanistan soldiers came across ancient Russian AKs that had the crap beat out of them that were still running!

I like the LAC Titanium gas piston personally, but they’re difficult to find these days.

Not sure if it makes a difference on my Riley ak but I know from having adjustable gas blocks two of my ar’s, I’ve experienced more jams with cheaper ammo. So no more adjustable gas blocks on ar’s for me

My kit romy build with a kns only throw steel like 5 feet. But It's dedicated suppressed now.

Whoever gas drilled my ak74 used too big of a drill bit. It slams the rear trunnion badly. I need it for my 74. My standard AKM works fine.

Thanks for the video. My brass lands something like 10-20 feet away, HOWEVER all my brass is very heavily dented which is obnoxious because I bought an expensive 7.62x39 reloading kit! It does not feel like it has a particularly large amount of recoil. Wondering if the KNS system right for me. It's a Century Arms WASR-10.

My Izhmash Saiga in .308 actually wont cycle with a KNS because its somehow gassed pretty much perfectly from the factory. Never seen the issue on any AK until this one

See for me i love recoil and can get around it im not worried as much about that i have a wasr10 for me my main concern was for stock wear because after about 300rds it losens itself and also the range i go to its required to pick up casings and as of now yes they launch like 20ft so thats my reason for looking into the kns piston but thanks for the reassurance

But I've had an SLR 107, WASR 10/63, Egyptian MAADI in the past "I WISH I never got rid of my Arsenal 107 & MAADI!"😢 but never got a KNS piston so was going to snag one to throw in this new gf3 right off the rip.. So this was like a sign that I just picked the gf3 up & this vid popped up in my feed the very next day🙌

I need one for my Polish 69 kit build. It’s way overgassed and the bolt is cycling faster than the magazine spring can push up the next round and it’s causing malfunctions.

My AK is cycling but the bolt stops about half an inch before it fully chambers the round. It looks like the rim of the casing isn't clicking into place behind the extractor claw when the bolt comes forward to chamber it. Do you guys think this is a gassing issue, or more likely to be an issue with the bolt face or extractor claw?

My Sam5 sends casings flying 10-15 feet up and about 50 feet out and after some searching I ended up with one of the first batch ones with a gas problem. I noticed the wear pattern on the bolt and carrier pretty early and opted to order one it should be here in a few days. Wondering if I shouldn't get one for my M70, it's not as bad as the Sam5 sending cases into low orbit but it still chucks them with some fury.

Nah the m92 leaves me with a mask when i run it suppressed need that piston.

M92, dead air sandman s, slr gas tube. Wolf supers and hornady 255gr subs. Couldnt find the sweet spot. Couldn’t run properly with or without can and with or without supers and/or subs. Found out the SLR gas tube ID maybe oversized.

My Riley defense AK-74 I'm diagnosing a issue with mine mine might be under gassed it's short stroking and causing a malfunction that m-13 industries has stated can be a recoil spring issue or under gassing issue which I was told by few other friends and the guy at m-13 to change recoil spring which I ordered a Bulgarian ak-74 recoil spring brand new from Kvar, and a booster cone, which I am gonna try the recoil spring if that doesn't work, I'm gonna use the cone because the krink booster cone in theory should make it cycle reliable if it's gassing issue so if it's under gassed I'm gonna send it into m-13 to get gas port opened up more.

My PSA GF3 throws casings like 15 feet away. I'm wondering if getting the KNS will make my gun into a butter smooth king a long with my ALG trigger.

I recently got a sam5 and tldr assumed it was way over gased but the piston made it never work...no matter the setting. At best it might only work on a suppresed setup. Also arsenal customer service is bad asss. Idk what all these forums are saying. Had no issues at all.

Lol, has PSA ever built a gun that was undergassed if it wasn't due to completely out of spec bolt carriers or canted gas blocks? I jest, I imagine it has happened. However, my PSA AK from last year beats me to death. My friend has a century arms wasr that feels just as bad. Cases are like you said, 30 feet or so. The first round I shot through the damn thing (norma brass 7.62x39) blew the primer out, found it in the receiver. Bought some headspace gauges, found it was very tight but did close (i didn't over apply pressure). I went ahead and shot about a hundred rounds through it, now all the sudden headspace is better 0.o?. Hopefully I just didn't clean the chamber well enough the first time, but that's kinda scary. Also I need to find out if PSA is gonna help me with the mag fitment, 3 out of the 9 types of mags I bought actually fit. Maybe if i get those things sorted, it'll be worth putting a KNS piston. With everything i've had issues with regarding PSA lately, I'm just really kinda done. Multiple friends AR's with oversized bolt tail seals in the carriers, one of them wouldn't lock back on full power ammo. Another one failed 223 headspace completely, wouldn't even begin to close the bolt, completely unsafe to fire. I've recommended to friends who are tight wads to buy PSA stuff then bring it to me so we can find out what's wrong with it first.

A buddy of mine had to take his KNS out since it wouldnt cycle subs even when fully opened. Interesting.

Personally, the only time you need a KNS is if you want to use a supressor. If youre not, I wouldn't bother with the upgraded piston and just let your rifle chuck shells 30 feet away
