Because he was directed to give that performance. The reason this knuckles is funny is because he as a stoic and completely seriously written and performed character clashes with the vibrant and colorful characters who exist in a zanier reality. Knuckles is the straight man who looks at this crazy reality from the outside.

The fact that he’s voiced by Idris Elba is really epic. He just made the character so likable. I really love what they did with knuckles in this movie. Let’s just hope he stays in the third movie. It be a very interesting dynamic between him and shadow. These movies are fun. 💙💛🧡❤️

I love how they did knuckles in this movie. Since he has been fighting since he was born he knows basically nothing about social interaction, and he’s not some complete moron. he’s smart on the battle field and smarter in a fight. However, not so smart when it comes to social cues or jokes
