Man I thought I was crazy. Thinking “why do all of my auto chops sound bad , why do I keep hearing a click??” I’ve always been into playing music but more recently have gotten into sound production so these kinds of videos are immensely helpful, thank you!!

Hey! Im a "eurorack" guy. I have alot of modules, but still think its a lot of work to make anything sound like a track regular folks listen to. So I thought of buying a display sampler(I already own samplers like Lubadh, Morphagene, Arbhar).. bought SquidSalmple by ALM, and then Erica Synths SampleDrum. But still didnt feel what I was looking for. Then I tried BitBox Micro and fell in love! Ive seen alot of criticism about the BitBox Micro from the modular community, but I love it. So now I just got my BlackBox delivered :D Man o man what a gadget! Just love the bigger screen and how easy it is to just sample some VCO and get at base going, a melody without having all that space with sequencers. AND that it has eurorack levels on IN's and OUT's (main 3 stereo outs). 10/10 for me. Love your videos btw. Cheers from Sweden

I hear ya, i use koala as well but often go to spdx tangerine and blackbox, even the po 33 one of them will solve the problem!

I like both very much! There is always going to be one thing you rely on that something else doesn’t do!

What has worked for me with the auto chop: after you time stretch it, resample it and then auto chop. Or normalize and then auto chop so that it can catch the transients better.

I also have both, Koala and BB. The new song mode in Blackbox really helps to arrange very easy a complete song. But what i really miss is stem export on BB. With Koala I airdrop a stem to my mac with Logic Prow DAW in seconds. Fantastic!

I wish that koala had the chops within one pad as well

Manually chop is your friend

the perfect chapping that you want depends on how perfect you trim the loops, but you also have the option once you chop the sample to used the release to also fix the problem of the ending !

Man, nothing like a nice little groovebox spending months sitting in waiting rooms during a family health crisis… been ther done that. A lot. Love the blackbox, almost selling it though. I usually take the circuit tracks, becaus blackbox has no internal battery. Its so often just one cable too much sticking out. Too many cables, then you forget the charger… wish phone developers will be forced soon to use replaceble batteries. A new standard battery to pop em in and out of other gear too. Just a standard battery slot for your elektron… Bb is so amzing, but with a powerbank and a cable sticking outthe back that usually takes up more space then the device itself.

I like both koala and BB but the BB definitely is great for midi triggering and having those options where koala is great for keeping the entire project on one device and move about in the apps. my main issue is deciding which to use and I always end up needing the other one in project.

Koala Sampler is a godsend. But wow bb does that? I like using the record a song feature on koala because I can make a song really quick, like a rough draft because of its sequencer. The only problem with that is that it’s only 8 sequences per page. It’s hard to go into the next page and access another sequence when you do a live recording. So I have to settle for 8 or less sequences. Never used a boss sp303 but it probably can’t do that or do it so well which koala was modeled after. Black Box…hmmm?🤔Okaaaay! I chop in quarter notes. I noticed that there are tons of chops in that sample. Most cases quarter note chops work well. For example the metronome is counted at quarter notes. So if you sample is one bar, reduce your chops to four, if it’s two bars then use 8.

Thanks for the vid. I’ve had a BB, but moved it on in a month as prefer to use the OT & DT. I use Koala a lot to field sample, or pull from KZfaq (like you showed). I often then trim samples in K & send them on to my Elektrons, via the Mac. It’s so quick to do. Koala is possibly the best value for money tool out there (for sampling).

I sold the blackbox cause the bad song mode and lack of fxs

- I really like Koala sampler but in all the years of sampling i have never used auto chop in anything, i have always edited my samples individually in WaveLab, Blackbox and Bluebox don't send out control changes so they are of no use to me, also your video is wobble wobble wobble.
