Exactly! What even more shocking considering his age is that he wants the ball. McTominay hides away as much as possible to avoid getting the ball. Bruno is careless with ball, Casemiro is reckless and Eriksen has no energy! We need two more Mainoo - like players

The best way I can describe Mainoo's quality is that time seems to slow down around he whenever he is on the ball. Always he seems to have an extra second to scan everything on the pitch then make the best decision there is. Such a revelation of a player at 18.

I agree it seems time slows down for him. I think that is a byproduct of Mainoo being mentally ahead of everyone around him. He is thinking two moves ahead of the other players. I have always believed that football is 90% mental and 10% physical. It helps when that 10% is elite athleticism obviously. This kid seems to have the total package, which is great!

I’m in awe of this boy. The ability to read the game on and off the ball is not some itching he shld be soooooo good at at such a young age. There’s that shot he blocked I can’t remember who made the shot but Mainoo started leaping before the guy thought of shooting because he had already read the game and he had the knowledge and ability to make that block. NONE of our players in the midfield have that ability and they have decades of experience combined. Mainoo is going to be a midfield sensation. He’s just amazing.

I think this sequence of play is the perfect example of how we can improve as a team. The pattern of play needed to be drilled so deep into the player's minds that no pointing/guiding is necessary from team mates. Only then can we see great fluid transitional gameplay, the expensive football
@dayalsingh10005 ай бұрын
Our problem right now as I have observed in all our matches played this season is that we loose the ball easily, give so much balls away, we make so much stupid decisions on the ball, and when defending we don't look on our shoulders and see the dangers, if we can avoid all this unnecessary, unwarranted and unwanted mistakes we will go far as a team.

I've got a special love for midfielders and most of my favorite ballers are midfielder , Modric , Ineista , Xavi ,Scholes , Alonso , Fabregas , Pogba (Juve) , Yaya and so much more but this boy wow I've never in my whole life seen a kid at this age this composed on his debut playing in the 6 role which imo is arguably the hardest position to play in football , honestly it's something special . This kid has more potential than any academy graduates we've had past 10 years and I mean more than Garna and Greenwood because of the position his plays , we've found a gem . Also that Norwegian kid in the academy with a tattoo on his neck another one to look at the boy just glides in midfield

I saw this thread that deducted that one of the reasons why Maguire seems so in form is due to Onana’s presence. Basically, Onana helps to decrease pressure by sweeping back the ball when they lose it so Maguire doesn’t always have to run for his life to get it back. Opposing teams also seem to stop pressuring us as high as before due to Onana always beating the press. This leaves Maguire space to be more assertive and go up high if needed. These two brought out the best in each other and I couldn’t be happier for this partnership.
@directorme66695 ай бұрын
Wow, hadn't thought about it from that angle and it's true because the Onana goalkeeping aspect you highlighted was something that De Gea never had. If we were a proper ball playing team no opponent will dare press Onana because he's so good at beating press and passing the ball to the midfield. We saw it in the UCL final, pep deliberately warned his players against pressing inter high up the pitch because of Onana Only problem is we have a big problem with our midfielders. They hate receiving and having the ball something that Mainoo showed to be a total opposite

@@directorme6669 I didn't see it at first too cause the qualities I mentioned are more like passive unseen benefits that most people don't recognize. Not only does he contribute to building from the back, but his presence cuts off the opposition's first press as well because it is just not worth it when the goalkeeper is Onana. The fact Pep himself praised Onana just makes his haters look downright silly.

Thank you Mr. Scarlet Report. It's interesting how I still gather a lot more details from your analysis even when I watch the game from minute zero to 90+ minutes. I was 100% sure Rashford would score the penalty, unlike the other United fans with whom I was watching. I also missed how important cheering from fellow players could improve his game in a matter of minutes. As for Mainoo, the level of maturity in his game is unwavering - very impressive. As for Roy Keane, it is a bit narcissistic of him with those comments. I wouldn't be surprised if they downplayed an achievement as big as a league title simply because of their focus on their past achievements. Just pathetic

My friend good day! It's been quite a while I came to see your videos. Great analysis once again. What I like specifically about this video is that you highlighted so many key things... very good observations! I will like to share my thoughts on just a few things you mentioned. * I sometimes see the highlights of United's Academy games and that's where I noticed a certain youngster called Kobie Mainoo who looked to be far advanced in his play than most of the other Academy players. I have noticed his quality for some time far before his emergence during preseason games for United. His performance against Everton was simply brilliant. This boy is a gem that United is very fortunate to have. In that game, he showed a maturity level far above his age. I found it hard to believe that he looked by far the best central midfielder of the the two teams by a country mile. He was that good! Fearless, very calm, composed, strong on the ball, fast thinking, mobile, tenacious and always willing to make himself available to receive the ball. He's the kind of player that Ten Hag needs to implement his "Ajax style of Football"! He kept possession very well and it was incredible for an 18 year old! * The reason why Ten Hag has not been able to instill his style of Football much more than expected is simply because a lot of United's present squad lacks "ball playing Footballers" good with the ball at their feet. A couple of players (if you observe) are afraid to receive the ball. Such players should not and cannot fit into Ten Hag's style of Football. The number one culprit is Maguire. Yes he's improved BUT against high profile quality teams he's been a liability because apart from lacking ability to move the ball out of defense more regularly, his passing ability is still low. This is why I think United has badly missed Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw. These two really know how to progress the ball into midfield and make splitting passes through lines set up by opponents thereby suddenly creating scoring chances. My friend, did you notice that with Luke Shaw back in the team, United looked a bit better? Even Rashford looked a bit better against Everton with Shaw back in the team. One of the reasons why United were pleasing to watch last season especially when playing out of defense into the midfield was majorly because of Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez in particular. This means that the more ball playing defenders and midfielders United has, the more Ten Hag can display his style of Football AND the better United would look. This will constantly put the opposition under pressure therefore creating more goal scoring chances. * Credit should be given to Andre Onana. He's kept clean sheets while coping with an ever changing back four due to injuries. He made a world class save against Everton including other key saves. * Garnacho's goal was world class. The technique and finishing was brilliant. Should be a very strong candidate for goal of the season... even a candidate for winning the Puskas goal of the year! Can't say which was better between this goal and that of Rooney against City. It was that good! * I hope more players return from injury quickly because United has some tough games coming up in December. Yes some flaws were still noticed in United's general performance as a team but the team has improved a bit. I have been watching the World Cup starting from 1982 hosted by Spain tagged "Espana '82" and clubside Football to date. I do have a soft spot for Manchester United and I've been a fan for well over two decades. I want to see United challenging for Titles and Cups once again! Once again, well-done my friend. Really enjoyed your analysis.👍🏽

It was clear from pre-season that the manager wanted to use Mainoo. Martinez aside, Mainoo getting injured on tour felt like the start of all the awful injury issues that have plagued the squad so far this season. Are we beginning to come out of the other side of it now? I hope so. Shaw coming back into the team in addition to Mainoo made a tangible difference in possession against Everton. The way Shaw plays the one-two around the initial pressing player when it first gets to him, it was the beginning of so many of the good things about United’s play last season. The criticism of McTominay when building out from the back is almost more obvious with Mainoo in the team. Only one of the pair seemed to have any interest in approaching the penalty box to receive the ball from Onana. Is that because Scott is being asked to do other things? Only the manager and players know the answer to that. But Mainoo was a revelation. Movement in the midfield when Onana was looking to pass it out. Could you imagine, if Mainoo was there during the De Gea/Maguire gaff away at Seville last season? I’m not trying to be revisionist here, but you had someone that really wanted to affect the game in the middle of the park, and he did. Excellent. Look forward hopefully to seeing it again on Wednesday. Another cauldron of fans to silence. Come on United.

At last some positivity from a Manchester Utd fan / pundit...The present generation of pundits (ex-footballers) are either comparing team performances with the past or have been scarred by United's dominance in the 90's. Great work !!

Very interesting. I love your analysis. Yes, it appears they are still learning the system. Apparently, they are beginning to understand.

Another great video as always. I'm personally very surprised by the result, but when i watched the extended highlights i was shocked that Everton played the way they did, without the intensity, fight and agression of a team that had been wronged by the authorities. This turned out to be a perfect game for Mainoo's introduction, but I would love to see how he copes in the flaming cauldron of Galatasaray.

That's the problem with highlights, you don't get the full picture. Everton did try to play aggressively however they couldn't because we controlled the tempo with our back line and midfield... No team in the world can constantly press their opposition if they remain composed on the ball and use the full width and length of the pitch wisely, as their energy and motivation will be sapped little by little and gaps will appear to be exploited. Only when we started being sloppy on the ball were they able to match their fans aggression and pin us back bombarding us with crosses and punishing us in transitions, but we stood firm as a unit. If you have the time, it's always better to watch 90 mins instead of highlights imho, otherwise you can be mislead into how a game actually panned out. The Everton fans were well up for it, but within 3 minutes they witnessed a worldie from Garny which also gave our whole team confidence to play calmly. Early goals are sooo important, we need to do it more often to settle our fragile mentality (which is actually not too bad at the moment) Anywho, onto CL, we need to score early there too to control their crowd and return with the 3 points, C'MON UNITED!

Great to see. This game against Everton saw five (5) previous Man United academy players starting in the game for United, then yet another 2 came on in the second half. So Manchester United today played Seven (7) products of their own club.

I don't like the way united switched off after scoring that goal we should have kept pressuring them.

It will come in time. Main thing is we didn't concede immediately after scoring like we have done all season
