Hello guys. Like most of you these days, I feel completely devastated. Been trying to find the correct words to express this, but whatever, I'll just say what I feel 100 % percent. I don't think I've dedicated more time to watch a basketball player than Kobe Bryant, other than perhaps Michael and Larry. But with Kobe it was different because I followed all his career LIVE, so the emotional connection runs much deeper. I saw him grow up, saw him conquer his imperfections and saw him grow both as a person and basketball player. There are multiple versions of Kobe throughout his career: the young gun trying to prove his worth in the late 90s and bumping heads with Del Harris, the two-way dominant force in the 2001 Playoffs (he killed everybody that year), the monster that couldn't seem to stop having 40+ points games in 2003, the guy that drove me crazy (in a bad way) in the 2004 Finals, the resurrected cannibal in 2006, the chess player in 2008, 2009 or 2010...he was such a flexible and dynamic guy. Always trying to increase his knowledge of the game and improve himself. I will miss him dearly. No other sports figure has touched my life in this way while I was growing up and maturing. I hided in his games in those tough days, when sometimes I felt lost and unmotivated. Whether it was a dunk, a creative layup, a fadeaway shot or a game winner...he always found a way to make me happy. Folks may not remember this, but one of the downsides to '97-99 Kobe was that he was insanely inconsistent.... his '1998 playoffs series with both Portland and Utah were forgetful (to be fair Del Harris played him sporadically)... and in 1999 he didn't record a single 30 point game in the playoffs against HOU and SAS (despite the fact that LAL really needed scoring).... it wasn't until 2001 that he started to exhibit a more consistent night-to-night performance... 2001 was when Kobe stopped being the 'young phenom' and started becoming the best player in the NBA

I loved his 360 moves and his quickness to get in the basket.

His story was truly magnetic and complex. It's a damn shame he isn't here with us to do his own documentary like Jordan.

It's insane how good his footwork was even at a young age. I think that's the biggest reason why people love Kobe so much (including myself), you don't just wake up one day and be able to turn over the left shoulder, right shoulder, pivot one direction or another, proper use of ball fakes, one dribble pull-up etc., that kind of shit requires real work at your craft. Unfortunately in this day and age where literally every team runs the same damn screen rolls designed for the best player to pile up gaudy stats and everyone else to shoot 3s you don't see too much of that anymore.

I know Kobe's best days were somewhere in ballpark of 2006-11. However, I think the late 90s Lakers were more talented and deeper than 2000-02 3peat Lakers. Van Exel, Jones, Shaq, Kobe, I recall Glen Rice on the 1999 team, Elden Campbell, younger Rick Fox. The 02 team was pretty much Shaq and Kobe carrying it all.
