Good tutorial. I would like to add this... Once your film is rolled up onto the large spool, you really do not want to just send it off to be processed by a lab....as you may never get that original spool back (the 620 or 616 spool is not something you can just go to the store and replace. You will want to take that finished roll of film into your bathroom at night (lights off, total darkness), take the empty 120 spool with you and unspool the finished film and respool it onto the 120 spool. Sounds hard but just despool the film just take either end of the film and respool it onto the 120 spool. The film naturally curves to the roll, as always the paper is the outside of the spool, film on the inside. Make the roll snug, absolutly no sloppy spaces, spaces can allow light leaks. Tape the roll so it cant unwind then send it off to be processed. And don't forget to put your 620 or 616 blank spool back inside your camera. That 120 film is now light safe and by taking it off the 620 spool you have no possible gap to leak light too. Don't be scared to respool onto the 120 spool, take your time, and roll it snug and you are golden! If you plan to use your vintage camera a lot, try modifying the take up spool to accommodate a 120 spool, just like the man in the tutorial did to accommodate the fresh roll of 120 film with a sponge piece or whatever you think will do the job. That way you wont ever have to reroll your film any more.

I'll keep that in mind if I ever get the box camera that has an original Spool in it. I just recently got aKodak 620. Seems like the previous owner stuck the an old metal 120 Spool in there. I bought some new six-20 spools from the film photography project store.

I very much enjoyed your video and think it is one of the best on this subject that I have seen. I am just now loading film into a Brownie No. 2 Model B so it was a great help and encouragement. I recently posted a story on FB about finding my mystery grand mother thru a photo taken with the exact camera and this camera has become my new life as a photographer at age eighty five. Prior to that, I had gotten bored and gave up my darkroom. Thanks

Load and UNLOAD the film , especially unload the film in a Darkroom. There is the danger that the bigger spool allow light to enter the film. A black bag is near to perfect for this.

Thank you so much for this video. It was so informative. My 11 year old son has just followed this and we have just sent off our film to a lab for processing. We called and they said they will post back the metal spool - we are hopeful we'll get it back! If not, can we use the empty plastic film spool in the future or it won't work? Thanks!

But the pressure plate pushes into nothing. Is the flatness of the film then guaranteed?

Where did you buy the film and what kind of film is it? I've seen some on Amazon that says ISO 400 TMAX
@catey62
@catey62 6 жыл бұрын
Its 120 format film, black & white. the 400 ISO is just the sensitivity if the film. you can it on amazon and ebay, just type in 120 film and you'll get all different sorts coming up.most good camera stores will stock it as well as 120 is still and extremely popular film to use.

Pull up the film winding part and twist gently until it comes out. Generally it locks the camera. Please subscribe.

Hi. I have this model camera. I am going to purchase some film soon. When I look through both viewfinders of my camera, all I can see is a total opaque fog blur. When I do eventually load the film in, will this change? Will I then be able to see the subject I am photographing, or does the opaque fog blur that I now see mean that the viewfinder is dirty? Hope someone can advise me on this. Thanks.

My camera is slightly different than the one in the video (its a No. 2A Folding Model B), but I had a similar problem to yours. When looking through the viewfinder everything was very blurry and foggy like you described, then I realized that you don't put your eye right up to it like a modern viewfinder. If you have your head a little less than a foot away it's much clearer. Might be hard if you're outdoors in bright sunlight because of glare but indoors its fine.

Hello I found a 2a model c Brownie and I've opened it, checked the mirrors and lens, everything seems fine I just can't figure out the viewfinder? I can't see anything clear out of it and I don't understand how the viewfinder doesn't point toward where the lens is capturing? Sorry, I'm new :(
@patrickwendler5458
@patrickwendler5458 4 ай бұрын
The viewfinder is supposed to be rather faint as it projects what the mirror sees onto a frosted glass. It should look a bit like a cloudy TV screen projecting the image at you. If you really can't see anything, I would open it back up again and clean the viewfinders, mirrors, and viewfinder lens.

@@patrickwendler5458 ohhh ok. I think I saw a blurry thing of my window blinds but its hard to tell. Maybe I need to take photos outside? I think I'll replace the mirrors anyways at some point after I get film. Thanks. :)

It needs to be opened and cleaned. Also the mirror tends to detach and needs to be glued back into place.
