The methods in this video are the foundation in Carpentry and will help any apprentice or handyman drastically increase their abilities. In part 1 of 4, I quickly run through the highlights of this series then show you two ways to use easy math to square a building. The first method is the 3-4-5 rule for a right triangle and the other is Pythagoras theorem. I can't express the importance of learning this concept.

If you pull 2 tapes at the same time from your building corner with the measurements pre figured, it’s much faster.

I use a trig app which tells me the hypotenuse length for my actual length of the other two sides just like in your Pythagorean theorem example. I use this everytime as the 3,4,5 method is just a projection of a smaller size of the actual size of the building. Decent accuracy, but inferior.

63'- 1/8" also i would get closer to the proper dimensions of 37'-0" and 51'-0". So multiply by 12 on the 3,4,5 rule. 36 ,48 and a hypotenuse of 60. Be perfect guys thats what seperates a pro from a hack. Take a little more care and ppl will love u for it. Great vid btw. Helping out those guys that dont know👍

Search “run over rise calculator”… 12’ run / 20’ rise = 23’-3 7/8” slope… So diagonally from the outside corners you should have 23’-3 7/8” with your building size to be square.

on the 345 method, were did you make up the multiply by five number i didnt understand where that number came from or if you just made it up or knew that before?? the pythagorian makes more sense to me , add calculator cant fail haha 345 i think id mess it up, is it always 5 times 3,4,5 or??

You can multiply 3, 4, 5 by any number you want. As long as you multiply all three by the same factor. Even 30, 40, 50 works. That can be inches or feet.

@@uptokode i think i get it now its just to make a90 degree corner to work off, ive done that part of the math i just didnt see the purpose but from a9 degree corner you can work of it as a definite corner not a guess. i think i was imagining it was somehow gonna be something more then just , ok get the 90 corner to work off, cool stuff this math its everywhere everything.
