Koh Lipe, Thailand. . . How to get to Koh Lipe and where to stay. Things to do, from kayaking to snorkeling to Koh Lipe's best restaurant. Koh Lipe Island is paradise. It may just be the most beautiful island in Thailand. It is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park, 580 square miles of protected sea life, great for snorkeling, scuba diving, and just time on the perfect sand looking at the amazing turquoise water. We visited Koh Lipe in May, 2023 (technically, the rainy season, but we saw mainly sunshine). Koh Lipe Island high season is November to March, but expect bigger crowds. We had an amazing time, being on and in the water, or haha, being on the sand and looking AT the water. In Lipe, it's all about the beautiful sea.

Whether you spell it Ko Lipe or Koh Lipa or Ko Lipay, or correctly as Koh Lipe, if you want to be less farang (westerner) and more Thai, be aware that Thais pronounce the letter K as a G, so they say "Gaw Lipe". Now you know why you hear it two ways!

But, haha, it usually manages to come together and I'm happy with the result. Oddly, what takes a long time is choosing new music. I know a guy like you, at one with the sea, likes to go one-on-one against a shark, with nothing to defend yourself with but a butter knife, but all sea life is protected here, so you will have to show your skills elsewhere...

Thanks so much, Thomas. I do my best! And thatnks for the music comment. I have such a hard time choosing music and often use the same tracks many times, since they usually only play for 15-30 seconds. But for this one I found 6 or 7 new songs. Takes forever to find them and try to fit the mood. For some reason my favorite was when Joy starts snorkeling before we see the underwater shots. That one felt just right. I hope you come again and comment regularly. Take care.

Hi Jon, yes an amazing place. I really prefer it over Samui and Koh Phangan, where I've gone a few times. It is a haul to get there but worth, especially if you spend more than a couple days there. Thanks for writing and come again.

Seriously, for anyone reading this comment, Flora and Note are two of the best KZfaqrs out there, focusing on Thailand, but also around SE Asia and occasionally beyond. If you don't know them, check them out and subscribe to their channel. They were one of a few channels that inspired me to start a KZfaq channel. They are so enjoyable to watch because they are genuine and fun, and they give us well prepared and beautiful content. So Joy and I may not exist (haha, at least not on KZfaq) if not for them.

Wife and I were at ten moons 11/12-11/18. Had visited the island before but not this resort. It was the most chill place we had ever experienced. The snorkeling was exceptional

Great video, thank you. Obviously you have come from South Thailand to get to Koh Lipe but if you happen to be on the other side, in Malaysia, you can catch a direct ferry, 90 minutes from Langkawi (with the same Boat company), enjoy and stay safe 🙏

omg i tried to get to this isldand 15 years ago. never made it, it seemed to be too difficult. but would love to get tere some day

Yes, I almost passed on it when I realized we'd have to go a day early just to sleep in a Hat Yai hotel to then start the van/speedboat trek the next morning. But I'm so glad we went. Very nice and the water was the best I could imagine. Best wishes and come again.

I loved it! Koh Lipe is definitely on my bucket list. It's funny because there the sea is crystal clear whereby on the not so far Langkawi islands (where I was in February) the water is cloudy.

Yes, amazing clear, more so than Koh Samui, which is also beautiful, but to me, can't compare. And the diversity of fish in the Koh Samui area is just amazing. I hope you make it, although the trip getting there is a bit of a turn off. But I guess that's why it is so pristine... it is so out of the way. 555 That is a good one. That makes me think of my daughter, when she was about 10, came home from school and said someone told her there was no Santa Claus. So I thought long and hard and finally said, yes, there was technically no Santa but we create him to show our good spirit of sharing. Love the ver detailed video of Koh Lipe! You two are so adorable together. I just have one minor thing to say, so the word “Koh” is pronounced like “Goh”. I am hearing you pronounce it as “Gut” Lipe every time. That is as al, otherwise, a spectacular video. Your video influences me to visit Koh Lipe as one of my island stops in August. Any advice for rainy season on the island ? Thank you! ❤

Thanks for the nice comments. About my "Gut"... I do my best with my Thai, haha. Trying to say it the right way. I think some ferry companies actually don't go certain months due to weather. We went in May, the rainy season, and had a great time. But there is the risk of rain.

Hi Ted, it varies between 35-37 baht to the US dollar. Right now it is a bit low for the dollar, about 35.5.

But to answer your question I watch a lot of Thai language YT videos, then practice what I learn, talking a lot to myself with imaginary conversations, usually when no one is around to laugh at me. Gah Lipe? Actually Thai says K as K so Koh Lipe Maybe up north they say gah Lipe, My thai wife and her hole family say Koh Samui Koh Lipe so does my thai friends, they also say Hua Hin not Waia Hin 😅😂, well i guess it depends on where in Thailand you come from,but pretty sure the natives says Koh Lipe 😊

HI Stefan. Hey I'd love to hear back from you on this. So don't leave me hanging... There are some regional differences in how people speak Thai for sure... and I'm no expert on the whole thing. But I'd think the G for a K would be universal. So please ask her about it. Maybe she says it that way around westerners so they don't get confused? All I know is what my Thai teacher tells me... and my girlfriend too, of course, so please get back to me about what your wife says about the mystery. Take care.
