❤️Hello friends, Kolhapur is a city in Maharashtra that is rich in Maharashtrian culture and tradition. Kolhapuri cuisine, Kolhapuri chappals, Kolhapuri spices have become famous all over the world.
Kolhapuri food is served usually in metal, steel or silver plates called "Taats".The cuisine is spicy due to the use of some hot red chillies and garam masalas, so people with a delicate stomach will have to sadly avoid it.
Kolhapuri people love their mutton that is made in several ways , there is the mutton kharda, the kale mutton, the traditional sukha mutton, mutton rassa and a few more. All these recipes are spicy but delicious to eat. The food is generally served with bhakris or chapatis and rice with curds pickles and deserts. Shrikhand and Puran Poli are two such sweets that are very popular.
As the community consists of many Brahmins too who love their pulses and vegetables, one can have a wide spread of vegetarian food also. I just love the all famous Misal pav which is a great preparation of Matki, potatoes, onions, garam masala, ginger garlic paste, lemon, some sev or farsan etc. Bharleli vangi or stuffed brinjal is another very popular and delicious dish.
So when in Kolhapur please visit a Kolhapuri restaurant and do try out their preparations.
We in Mumbai are lucky to have a few Kolhapuri restaurants in our city. In this vlog friends we visited one such Kolhapuri restaurant "Lai Bhari" meaning too good or zabardast in Marathi.
The restaurant is tucked away in a small bylane in Andheri East and friends I promise you that the Kolhapuri food that they serve here is one of the best I have ever had in a long time.
They also have some Chinese and Thai dishes along with some tandoori starters but we preferred to dig ourselves into the Kolhapuri food. The mutton thali, the veg thali , the aalni(light mutton broth), the tambda and pandhra rassa all exceeded our expectations. Everything was very fresh and served with great love and warmth. The staff was very cordial and they explained each and every Kolhapuri dish in detail. The owner of the restaurant Maansiji was very welcoming and friendly.
