In this video we demonstrate the Komplete Kontrol's workflow capability by laying down the fundamentals of a track such as:
• Playing and quantising a beat by slowing down the project and utilising the light guide and quantise features
• Using the browser to audition and load presets.In this case we edit a bass sound using native map and record it in session view
• Cycling through native and third party NKS presets to find a lead sound and harmonising it using the scale & chord smartplay performance controls
• Using functions such as undo/redo and quantise to edit & correct our performance on the fly
• Adding pads and arpeggiators using smartplay
• Launching clips & scenes in session view
• Recording session automation using native map
• Overdubbing automation
• Mixing on the fly with the balance & pan controls

Are all controls integrated with Kontakt as well, or do you have to load a separate instance of Komplete Kontrol for each instrument to use the preview (and other) feature?

Hi, thanks for this tutorial, I have a s88 mk1 and mk2 and maschine studio but having problems to get it to work with fl20 so I tried ableton live now. But it does not work like you show it. Can you please make a tutorial on how you set up your system? Preferably using windows 10 64 bit . My pc is now a mess as I have komplete11 ultimate several times on several locations . Would appreciate it if you could really be methodically step by step. Native instruments advertise “for the player” but I think it’s “ for the programmer” I can play but programming is not my forte. Thanks, this was the type of review I was looking for the s49 mk2. I'm considering Novation 49sl mkiii or NI Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2. I know a lot of people shy away from this because of lack of drum pads but you still can produce fantastic drums and percussion with this. In some ways I think the keys controlling the drums is more authentic in sound. It has great software. Great review!

i was experimenting with the Abbry Road drum kit and noticed that as try as I would, I could not record the groove patterns on to Ableton. Is there a way to do that? I can see how to play the drums on the keyboard and that works, but could not record the groove setting.

If you had to choose between s61 mk2 and s88 mk2, which one would you choose? Semi-heavy key of s61 or heavy key of s88, to produce hip hop, Trap ...?

I'm having trouble applying the 4 way encoder properly and enabling this to work within Komplete Kontrol while simultaneously being able to record with the mixer (ableton). are you using push 2 with this? I've been stuck with this for a week

The Arp Function on Komplete Kontrol does not fully integrate here, does it? Because when it's on all the midi notes are then arpeggiated. Makes for a very confusing work flow if you want to overdub hats on top of bass/snare. Is there a setting I'm missing so it will work?

i hv loaded the komplete kontrol vst from the instruments rack to one of the midi chanels but it doesnt load the komplete kontrol software into it...why ?... plzzz help if u can

Very Informative... I just purchased and hooked up my s61... my question is when I add another instrument it layers the piano (for example) with the drums (kick) for example. It’s sooo frustrating! And thots?

I dont know about ableton but in maschine 2 theres a setting in preferences that says 'focus' and it will make sure that it will only record what instrument you're on at the moment. Idk if that was helpful I'm not into ableton.

I have the same question. I can use my s61's knob to navigate the tracks but they dont arm automatically.

Hi . I came across this video of his due to a problem and I don't take advantage of his vast experience in case he has a moment to advise me. I have a problem with komplete kontrol mkII. I work with computer window and daw maschine 2; everything up to date including komplete kontrol software with Native access. Everything works except for one "small" detail: the keyboard doesn't play the loaded sounds, and it doesn't seem to send midi signals to the computer. So all the functions (load sounds, mixer, channel selection, play, stop, ... etc go and work the daw) but the keys don't play or record any sound or track. I reloaded the daw and also the diel kontrol software but nothing. In the "controller" dropdown of Maschine 2 kontrol mk2 it is regularly selected, however I realized that if I go to the preferences in the midi setting where I have to select input or output device, in fact, I don't see any device to select. In short, there is something wrong and it seems by deduction both in the operating systems also because I have always connected via USB kontrol mk2 to maschine plus in standalone mode everything works and plays as well; while with maschine plus in controller mode it doesn't work anymore. Can you give me some pointers? I really thank you. Louis

I bought this keyboard and return in two days because of the control surface was not working i was thinking its defective piece then order another one but problem is still same 10 mins working good then again start problems. I emailed to NI to fix this issue but no help waste of time

If you have the maschine mk2 is it better to get the complete kontrol 2 or the Maschine mk3 ? I do have a standard midi keyboard.

MK3 and Komplete Kontrol mk2 work together as well as with the DAW. I use the Maschine for the project control and drums, The KK keyboard is great for tweaking the sounds in real time.

If you’re a pianist and like that real feel go for an 88, The 61 key has a bit of a plastic feel but both are amazing :) I have a 61 by NI :)

It comes with Ableton Live 10 and Maschine. It will work with FL Studio and others too but for the moment with the likes of FL Studio theres no advanced control. You an still use it as a midi-keyboard and assign your knobs and buttons to virtual knobs, buttons and faders however FL Studio will only recognise it as a generic controller. I'm hoping advanced control will come soon for FL Studio, however since it hasnt its caused me to learn Ableton 10 which can only be a positive.

Hey Robin, Everytime I select an effect (using Push2), the KompleteKontrol switches in Midi-Mode. Is it possible to stay in Plugin-Mode, when selecting Ableton effects? Or is it possible to edit in Push2, without selecting that effect(just tweaking)? Kind regards Elias

I feel dumb as f@#$ but can someone please explain how to move notes around in Maschine 2 with s49 mk2. I tried everything but nothing works. Moving drums around, nudge isn't working please help

I don't have a mk2, but according to the manual you need to switch to Pattern view and turn the big encoder to select notes. You can then click the encoder up/down/left/right to move the note. Unfortunately it looks like this only lets you move one note around at a time. On the Maschine mk3 (which I do have), you can use the Events view to select multiple notes. I don't think the Events view exists on the KK mk2. Would be nice if the KK mk2 could access all features of Maschine (even if you need a shift+button combo to get to some of them), and I also wish the Maschine mk3 was usable with the KK software, but I guess NI still has a lot of work to do to get them properly integrated both ways.

What Daw do you use?! I run it as software instrument in logic and after you record you can go in and quantize or move each note by hand

It is all good but the only thing I don’t like is that they have bad customer service and in most stores they do not do a return (because it is considered software) . So if you get a lemon or have technical issues it is not so fun. Hopefully they make this a painless purchase because for some people it is a huge investment. If they improve their customer service then it will be perfect and I can suggest it to friends.

Komplete Kontrol software is just a Kontakt wrapper and the way it is developed sucks. The interface is like from WindowsXP era. This product is not really up to the task and certainly has to be completely redesigned. Super hard to read, and almost no customization. I have endless problems with loosing library connection, plugins not being recognized etc. Instead of working on the music I keep fixing problems every few weeks

Native Instruments ? If you wanna deal with poor software and the Customer Support that does not care - go for it, but I will never ever buy anything from NI in my life again. Horrible company ! Stay away from NATIVE INSTRUMENTS

Native Instruments is the most professional Software and hardware company today for Creating electronica music.The phone support they offer is Limited I agree. But there is a active quick response team working at the knowledge base forum Willing to help solve any issues That may arise. Included at the knowledgebase are several power users that are more than willing to offer their time and support. Also if you would’ve sent an email directly to Native Instruments requesting one on one phone support they would’ve set that up for you as well. They offered me a partner service they use at OBEDIA. After buying complete 11 ultimate in the latest Komplete Kontrol 49 Mark 2S series. I was Having issues with how to set Everything up. After calling Phone support I had everything set up within an hour. Furthermore I’m 50 years old and I’m a professional sound engineer , Recording artist and producer. I have used pretty much Every VST, plug-in and application on the market today.Nothing compares to the quality of Native Instruments products. Just because you fell short of getting the response that you wanted and It sounds like in your case needed You shouldn’t take the opportunity to publicly throw the company under the bus. I’m sure every time you call support for any product do you have You find some people are more helpful and knowledgeable than others. Lastly maybe should’ve done your due diligence and research the product you were buying before you bought them. Very sad when you see someone blame everyone else For their shortcomings.
