That was a very bizarre cut from talking about what he’s going to do to cutting to a golf course drone shot mid sentence.. had me a bit confused

Congratulations on what looked like a perfect execution in St George Sam. Best of luck with the trip to Australia and fingers crossed we see you on the start line in Kona. I’m looking to return to Oro Valley in March/April next, maybe bump into you again then. With that in mind, have you and Lionel ever thought of dropping by the Oro Valley triathlon in March and/or the Catalina State Park Half Marathon Trail Race in April, I’m sure it would be an inspiration for all those taking part. Cheers from Scotland 🏴, Sandy

The run you’re on right now is incredible, peaking for sure! Two video questions: - when is the sweat elite video dropping with Matt Fox? - you should film some of your bike training sessions with the gravel beasts. I’m guessing a lot of people didn’t know you train occasionally with Keegan and all those animals.

I think the sweat elite video will come out next week. That would be dope! We have talked about it but would need a film crew

Man, You are shining now, I love the idea of jumping to something “bigger” but usually when we want to reach multiple things at the same time, one of those things are not going well. I would recommend you to keep shining in PTO and 70.3, consolidate as a champion there, and you can jump to Kona in another opportunity. You are still young, that is not the case than Lionel, and he has only one focus Kona.

Tapering is worth 6% Sam. It's huge. You can't afford not to nail this down. And tbh it's easy to figure it out, and oh so rewarding at the same time. You know you've got all the work done and now you're just letting the body catch up to deliver the fireworks. There is not much I enjoy more than the taper in all my training. It is the calm before the storm and I am blissfully smiling all the way because I know all the hay is in the barn.

I think this is a great idea to finish off your 2024 ‘regular season’. What many people forget is that your 2024 season started after about 2 weeks break following your only ironman of 2023 last September. Your first ‘2024’ race was actually Indian wells in December, so by IM Cairns, you will have been racing for 7+ months. What I hope is that you shut your season down for 2-3 weeks of complete rest, before starting the build into the ‘2024 Championship Season’. I hope you skip T-100 London, treat T-100 Ibiza as your ‘early championship season’ warm up and aim to peak for Kona and then the T-100 final in Oman at the end of November. If you win or podium at San Francisco and get a KQ in Cairns, you really don’t need any ‘good’ results before Kona for the year as a whole to be an absolute triumph. I actually wish Lionel would go to Cairns as well (and in his case do Lake Placid before taking 2-3 weeks completely off before his Kona Build, because judging by past successes he does best at IM when he isn’t overcooked, and I think a program of no longer than 10 weeks before the last 10 days on the big island is his best bet to peak there. But I digress).
@SamYoYoYoLongАй бұрын
You pay very good attention! This is absolutely spot on. My 2024 regular season is about to end!

@@SamYoYoYoLong Mate- if you are planning a mid off season after Cairns IM, I hope you bring the family to australia and stick around for a week or so and take in the Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas, Daintree and - of course - at least one crocodile tour!
@SamYoYoYoLongАй бұрын
@@andrewmetcalfe9898 I have one day after the race to see things. What would you recommend? The travel is to much with the baby so then going home to be with them
@andrewmetcalfe989829 күн бұрын
@@SamYoYoYoLong Hi Sam. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. There is a lot to do in the surrounding Cairns area, but with only one day (and I assume you will have media commitments and perhaps a massage scheduled as well) after the race, my recommendation would be a half day (5.5 hour) “Skyrail Cableway to Kuranda and train return” tour. This is situated just north of Cairns itself, so you could probably schedule it into the Monday after the race pretty easily. I also notice that you will be in the area for the week leading up to the race. A good way to acclimatise to the Far North Queensland climate would be to also do one touristy thing a day - in addition to your taper training. So I also recommend ticking off a few of the following options before the race: Hartley’s Crocodile Farm, Port Douglas (and if possible do a two hour tour on ‘The Lady Douglas’ paddle steamer), Mossman Gorge and a Crocodile tour on the Daintree River. Each of these excursions shouldn’t take more than a few hours and aren’t particularly taxing to do. Cheers and enjoy, Andrew

I’m with Lionel, I think with the same training just slightly higher volume you can perform without getting killed in training before the race. Good luck!

Love the idea that you want to race in Kona. You're in great shape, why not. Just don't over train for the Ironman. Keep doing what you've been doing for the 70.3 races and tweak a little for Ironman but not too much. Good luck. Lots of the guys will be scared now that you might be racing in Kona.
