A konnakol scat-singing-rhythmic-mathematically-intricate Carnatic cadence! I love the complexity of Carnatic rhythms and I want to share it with you, breaking it down step-by-step.
This rhythmic section is called a korvai, and is performed using konnakol (oral percussive syllables) in adi tala (8-beat cycle).
Can you do it? Give it a shot! 😁
If you're keen to learn the very basics of carnatic rhythms, I have an introductory lesson here: • Introduction to Indian...
Enjoy!

Explained in much better way than most of the vidwans show in their videos. The main problem with most of them is that they put the video more to show their expertise and assuming all viewers are learned mirthangsnists and not students. Those videos have no value for learners. Why can’t we follow this technique so that the video is useful

Thank you for demystifying Korvai’s! This is one of the clearest presentations on this subject that I have seen. Adding the sub-rhythmic phrases visually while you vocalize the Konakkol is masterful as a teaching aid. A lot of effort must have gone into this, and the result is absolutely beautiful!

Hi. My name is Ramya Jayaraj and I'm from Chennai. I do really appreciate your effort in learning this Korvai along with the Adi Taalam and making a video for others to learn from it. I have a doubt though. How does Thaangu at 4:30 in the 3-tim3 repetition cycle, count as 5? Shouldn't it be the same 3 count, as always?
