He died in june 2006. he was one of the most gifted and influential musician in jazz-funk history. His ability in several music styles was admitted by many musicians all around the world. R.I.P Mister Charles Smith.

Have to share my little crush story. I was about 18 taking the bus to work near Jamaica Ave. every evening the same gorgeous bus driver would look in the rear view mirror and smile at me the entire trip.( I always ‘accidentally’ ended up in the seat directly behind him LOL)The funny part was, I never learned the words to this song because every time we approached my stop, he had the chorus “here’s where we let go, here’s where we step out” cued up and ready to play for me on cassette, as he said a sad goodbye. He was about 30yrs and although we never ‘talked’ I felt sure that he was taken, because he was too handsome to be single. I wasn’t in love, but oh how I enjoyed the attention and soft smile. I don’t know where he is today, but he made going to a job I truly hated an almost pleasant experience. Thank you, Sir, wherever you are!
