The frogs 🐸 are the mascots of a Korean Soju brand (진로 소주) the actual Soju you drank at lunch. Jinro Soju was created in the 1920s during colonization in Korea but even then featured a frog on the bottle. Due to multiple issues ,(especially war), the Soju disappeared, moved around operations, then finally settled in the 1950s and began producing again through the next couple decades (still featuring the frog 🐸). Financial issues ended the company in the 1990s, and they sold to a Japanese company for a bit, but by 2003, the soju was discontinued. In 2019 under the brand of Hite-Jinro the soju came back and used a very cute version of their frog mascot to heavily advertise the return. It was so fascinating reading through their history. I was speed-reading through a Korean history on the brand, I'm not an expert in the subject. ..are there such things as soju experts? Anyway, Looks like you just missed the jinro soju frog return in Korea. Glad you got to enjoy it all the way across the pond in Tokyo too. **Actually not "frog" but is a blue toad 🐸 파란 두꺼비 and the actual blue toad is really cute and looks a lot like the mascot~! Sorry for calling all things that look like 🐸 as "frog" 👀

OMG seeing you in a Korean restaurant and showing all the signed photos of old school k-pop groups who had visited like Tohoshinki/TVXQ, Infinite, Girls Generation and Kara (feels weird to call them "old school" since they were still active around 10 years ago but k-pop has changed so much in a decade), I was getting major EYK throwback vibes... 🥰

It can't be stated that local food is so important to your memory and well being. It's more than just nourishment or flavor, but an actual connection and memory to places and your past. After I left Korea I had wicked flashbacks as I moved to an area which has a larger urban Korean food chain and community. When I first walked into a giant well known Korean supermarket after a 15 year absence all the memories came flooding back. And all the tasty stuff too of course! I am still in the same area so now I get the best of both worlds!

My husband and I spent two amazing weeks in Italy a few years ago. Half in Rome, half in Sorrento on the Bay of Naples, overlooking Mt. Vesuvius. Whenever the walking became too much, we’d stop at a little café and each order a cappuccino. Wonderful coffee wherever we went! It gave us just enough of a kick to get up and keep exploring. When we got home, my husband needed a pick-me-up, so he made his usual latte with our Keurig. He literally spit it out into the cup like he’d been poisoned! Italy had ruined coffee for us! He disappeared for 15 minutes and then came back and showed me the espresso machine he’d just bought online! Once you’ve experienced the real thing, there’s no going back.

Just wanted to chime in with the rest of the commenters. I've been around since the early teaching days in Korea, and the nostalgia hit me right in the feels! Congrats on all your recent success 💖 I'm a fellow Zebra (in Australia🇦🇺), and it's great seeing you take time for your health while thriving. Keep building that ladder! 🦓

Oh, my emergency Airbnb was in Shin-Okubo last time I was in Tokyo. I did notice there were so many Korean restaurants. Made sure to eat at one before I left of course
