$1430 actually sounds kind of low for New York City, maybe that’s the number for New York State? My last 2 bedroom in Manhattan was close to $3000/month, and I thought it was a good deal.
@KingAsa5

That’s what I was gonna say. You can’t even find a $1430 two bedroom here in Dallas, it’s about $1600-$2k in most places. I always thought A studio in NYC was around $1700 or more

$1430 is definitely not the average cost for a two bedroom in NYC, even in the crappiest neighborhoods UNLESS it's rent controlled. Otherwise 2 bedroom in an ok neighborhood would run you 3K easy.

Apartments are the biggest scam brought to you by sellout corrupt politicians and commissioners approving them. All it does is let rich people suck wealth out of communities and never reinvest into them. Instead starter homes should be built so you actually have a chance to own something and get most of your money back when you sell it. Rental apartments should be banned either make homes or make sure that the apartments are for sale and not for rent. The concept of landlords is feudal. Sell only.

There might be some "lost in translation" factor. In Korea, a two room is a one bedroom, one living area, and one bathroom stateside. And a one room in Korea is a studio. Still a $1,400 studio is going to be pretty ghetto with crackwhores and homsless dudes are camping out on your sidewalk.
@marcmathes

@@migultantamco I would have guessed that too and I'm not even from the US. In my neighboring city, there are two bedroom apartments that currently go for 900-1200 already, and we're talking about a small city of 25.000 people in southern Germany not anywhere close to something like NYC. So no shot the average there was 1400 even a year ago.

$1430 is about the average in the middle of the USA, and is probably double that in New York City. I was screaming like the cast members at the prices of those apartment homes. MJ is so funny. That type of money does seem unreal.

I will say as a New Yorker I was a little surprised by some of the locations of those apartments. A lot of those buildings are historical or just amazing in architecture and I would’ve never thought that they would be places to have condos. Especially since some of the locations are very industrial or just business oriented.

Most places in the US right now you can’t find a two bedroom for $1400, let alone NYC. The average rent is definitely much, much higher priced, especially in these recent times and especially in a big and expensive city like NYC. My two bedroom apartment in the middle of nowhere Virginia is $1500, and the price is increasing once my lease is up.

1430 for a 2 bedroom anywhere in the USA right now is considered cheap! I rent out my studio for $1100 and it's nothing special. A 2 bedroom in my neighborhood is 2500-3000/month. Ya'll should have done houses in Hawaii rather that just the most expensive apartment in NYC.

$1,430 average for a 2-bedroom MY ASS. Literally NO neighborhoods are listed with an average 2-bedroom rent lower than $2,000. Most average rent is above $3,000. If you want something that isn't garbage, or so far that you'd be faster commuting from a suburb, expect to go over $4,000. $1,430? Yeah, enjoy that technically 2-bedrooms, but more like a studio divided into rooms you can barely fit a bed into, no-appliance kitchen, first-floor or walk-up, miles from the nearest subway, no-amenities building, dangerous neighborhood garbage pile. Jeez, I'm looking for a 1-bedroom right now, and there's nothing under $4,200 that doesn't come with garbage caveats.

That 3rd building is a mega million dollar mess. So many rich people bought condos in it and found so many things wrong with it. Major things like trash/garbage shoots - there were none - heating in the winter, slow elevators, water pressure to the top floors... A mess - but hey - if you have the money to blow - well... And, a k-pop idol paid 10 million won/ 7 million (US) for a place in Hannam /UN Village and it looks better then those. Yes, having all that "space" is awesome - but how much in cleaning services will you pay?... Just saying... Better to look at this stuff and not buy.

The worst part about these mansion-apartments? Most of them just sit empty. Rich people buy them for the prestige / just for the real estate or only visit when they fly there for business trips. The rest of the time it's completely empty when people are working themselves to death to afford tin shacks and homeless people dying in the streets.

That sounds like the average or median apartment rent for the US, not NYC. Median pre-pandemic (2018) asking rates were around $3,000. Manhattan has the highest median asking rate at around $3,300. Bronx and Staten Island had the lowest at a bit under $2000. This is the median asking rent. Average rent would be higher due to uber luxury rentals skewing the average.

The housing disparity in New York is awful, multi-billionaires get richer with safe investment properties that are zero risk while lower and middle-income people pay ridiculous amounts for homes, that are rundown, overpriced and often unsafe.

Korea's national salary average is $3000. The average citizen's salary is not very high in Korea. Thus, why that rent amount seems ridiculous to them.
