I wish they did a deep dive into the celebrity's wedding costs and how extravagant celebrity weddings are: Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz,Nick Jonas and Priyanka or Carly Cucco's wedding that was featured in Vogue as well and how elegant they are (Alexandra's daddario's wedding and Jasmine Tookes). Or big weddings such as some Lebanese weddings (or better yet how weddings around the world work)

I respect the fact that even big celebrities in Korea do not waste their money on expensive rings. Diamonds do not gain in value, unless you have a very rare one. Much better to invest in real estate than a ring.

the whole value of Diamonds is a lie anyway, De Beers created a myth of scarcity and heavily regulated prices and mining them, then heavily marketed them in the west as a must for engagement rings, and people believed it, leading to an overpriced market for what is essentially a piece of crystalised carbon

I think the difference is that Western Celebrities have too much money to know what to do with. Kanye and Kim are Billionaires, so are Jay-Z and Beyoncé. They own real estate and are both every charitable.

Is not about that. If they have the equal money as those western have they would be doing the same. 🙂. SK celebrity simply can not afford it yet! So they choose to invest first. Those westeners already build empire before buy those rings.

I've checked out the rings on the hands of Korean chaebol heiresses (who could afford big stones) and they are modest in size. It's not where they put their money.

Actually indian weddings are pretty expensive too since our weddings can go upto 7 days 😅 Edit : Some of the extravagant indian weddings and their cost as per the reports 1) isha Ambani and Anand Piramal - 86 million dollars , even stars like Beyonce performed. 2) Sushant Roy ( Sahara India group ) - 67 million 3) srishti Mittal ( Lakshmi Mittal steel tycoon's daughter ) - 60 million

@selbi_.1092 I heard Indian wedding are extravagant, even for the poor. Families go broke throwing weddings. My former coworker said her family spent $200k on the wedding, she said they weren't poor but it was sickening to her how much was spent. She'd rather saved the money to buy a house here in US (she was born & raised there, did college in US & immigrated with her husband).

But as someone who is born and bought up in india, in a middle class north indian family living in the south, 7 days of marriage and spending a shit ton of money is very normal among us. Its not that way in the south but north does it that way, no matter if youre rich or not. And like the person above said, we arent poor but we arent richat alll...but most our weddings cost anywhere from 200k to 400k dollars

It's the craftsmanship because Diamonds are a horrible investment, De beers controls the Diamond markets they have vaults and vaults full of Diamonds to try and control the market

Fun fact, engagement rings were meant to be an insurance policy for the woman if the man only married her to sleep with her and then he leaves her, the ring would be valuable enough for the woman to sell and be able to provide for herself until she could meet a man who did not mind marrying a non virgin since women could not work before 1919. Nowadays since 9 out of 10 women already have sex before marriage and are legally allowed to work, there is no reason for them to get a diamond ring! But American women still demand them! (This is where the phrase "No hymen, no diamond" originates from!).

While the greater point of the woman being able to sell the ring for her upkeep is true, women have always worked. Given the date you mention, I presume you mean that women couldn't vote in US federal elections until 1919, though they could vote in state elections as far back as 1776 -- New Jersey allowed it, but then took the franchise away in the 1810's. Wyoming was then the 1st to grant the franchise to women again in 1870 and thus gets credited for "being first," but that's a whole different thing which is wholly irrelevant to the subject of marriage and engagement.
