I remember that I used to think the name of "Halo halo" was so cute when I first heard it in Korea..😆I've got to try this finally near Manila Bay!!! It was a fun moment where I got to chew on everything and taste each one of them inside of it LOL What's your favorite part in Halo Halo? What should I try next??
*This was filmed in April 2022, when I first visited PH* Please subscribe to my channel and comment what you guys think! ♡Love from Korea♡

Heeyyy!! I usually don't like mixing ice everywhere over other stuff even for Bingsu(Korean ver.), so I didn't mix it!! But I didn't know Halo-halo itself literally means "mix-mix" HAHAha It's like me not mixing Bimbimbap when "Bibim" literally means mixing in Korean LOL Try ko ihalo for sure next time!😋😋

With Halo Halo, when you eat the ingredients by itself, it taste average or so and so. However, when you mix all the ingredients , you have the marrying of different flavours and textures which enhances the taste of the dessert. Hence, Halo Halo (Mix Mix). Just like with majority of dishes in the Philippines, it must be mixed first before eating like Pancit and Calamansi or Kare Kare and shrimp paste or Taho (Tofu Pudding) or Arroz Caldo (Congee) just to name a few. For Filipinos , we just love the contrasting flavours and textures of the dish which is why we like to mix things first. Cheers and Happy eating Sylvia!😎

Exactly. The individual flavors of ingredients in halo-halo, pancit, calamansi, kare-kare, peanut butter, bagoong, sisig, etc. all taste good individually. But the essence of those dishes is their taste when their ingredients are mixed together. Sylvia missed the mark on this one. ✌️😁🙏

Halo halo is made 12 mix ingrients The main is milk and ice Sweetined sweet potato Sweetined saba or fat banana Gulaman seaweed jelatin Sweet beans Grabaso beans Red sweet monggo beans Nata de coco coconut jelly Kaong sugar palm jelly Makapuno the sweet coconut over ripe Pinipig rice crispy Sago bolba or pearl Ube halaya ube jam If is put some leche plan, icecream is a moderm halo halo But if you try it in just milk & ice and 1 of the ingrient its called con yelo Like saba con yelo the sweet banana Mais con yelo Monggo con yelo Camote con yelo

Hi Sylvia! I always love your vlogs. We understand and respect that you said it's not your style to mix your foods, but you haven't really tried halo-halo if you didn't mix the ingredients. Halo-halo literally means to mix. 😁 At first, it was okay you were trying small bits of each ingredient to taste them. But I lost it when you finished the whole portion of leche flan without leaving some of it so you can mix everything at the end. The experience of eating the whole thing after mixing is the essence of halo-halo. Please don't treat it like bingsu that doesn't require mixing. 😊🇵🇭

The individual flavors of ingredients in halo-halo, pancit, calamansi, kare-kare, peanut butter, bagoong, sisig, etc. all taste good individually. But the essence of those dishes is their taste when their ingredients are mixed together. I believe it would also be good practice to ask how a local food is eaten like what some other food vloggers do instead of just sticking to what you're used to and saying "I don't like mixing my food" and missing the essence of another culture's food. ✌️😁❤️

Try it mixed next time so you'd taste everything along with the milk.. cause if you keep eating just the toppings.. the ice under just becomes bland.

I wasn't born in the Philippines so I didn't know you had to mix halo halo to get the right flavour at first and didn't care for it much before, but thankfully I later realised you're supposed to mix everything and it honestly tastes much better that way. Bingsu uses frozen ice/cream that's turned into very finely shaved ice so it already tastes good even without the toppings, whereas the ice in halo halo is just water lol so you need to mix it with everything to get the halo halo flavour and also get the condensed milk mixed into the ice. Like other people have said here, all the ingredients in halo halo are quite average individually, but magic happens when you mix everything together.

It’s fun watching you eat halo-halo picking each ingredient one by one. It’s understandable because it’s your first time and you want to taste each piece. Although, after reading your comment that you don’t really mix ice over stuff in your bingsu, that’s too bad. I agree with the other comments here, the charm of halo-halo is in mixing everything together. Yes, maybe next time you try it you can try mixing it up. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Interesting way of eating halo halo. 😊 Next time you visit, you might also want to try "ginomis". It's quite similar to halo halo, though w/ fewer ingredients, but the difference is in the milk being used. In halo halo they use cow's milk while in ginomis, they use coconut milk which makes it so deliciously creamy. If you want to try different Filipino dishes, desserts and snacks, visit Via Mare Restaurant. They serve various Filipino dishes plus desserts like ginomis, halo halo, mais con hielo and the well-known 'kakanins' such as bibingka, puto bumbong, palitaw, etc.

Hello, Sylvia from the Bay Area! I left PH as a young boy but sadly my last visit there was almost 30yrs ago. I can tell you that halo halo is what you make it really. The main ingredients are evaporated milk, sweetener & most vital... Ice. And lots of it! The main purpose of the dessert is to cool off. As a kid I preffered pre-cooked and cubed saba(banana variety), cassava, jackfruit, and grated young coconut and even cantaloupe. I was born in the province so whatever fruit we can forage just as long as we have those main ingredients. Those halo halo you buy in the city are cookie-cutter (no disrespect) coz we can buy them here in a cooler climate. It's really best enjoyed under the tropical sun with fresh and "not" preserved ingredients and especially no flan or ice cream. I did not not like that sticky feeling. Plus, those can be desserts by themselves. We have a somewhat similar dessert for fair weather called "ginataan" with tapioca pearls, sweet rice balls in coconut milk along with aforementioned ingredients. Those can be enjoyed hot or cold. If you haven't tried that yet, they should be available at your local Filipino eatery. Love your content.

There's alot of ideas in Halo.halo. The Uber type violet halo.halo. It may be all whites with vanilla ice cream. Or yellow base for mango halo.halo. It may also be orange colored by ripe papaya. Then all purpose cream, condensed milk. Sometimes in the province, they put fresh Carabao milk! Not cow! But carabao!
