@@alyshasocie6120 it kinda depends, I’ve played football for years and have taken many hits, some don’t feel like anything even when it looks like a serious hit and some that don’t look so serious can hurt. I’ve mostly had head injuries and leg/hand injuries. Also dislocated my elbow and shoulder (separate occasions)

This sport is a life long commitment and the athletes who play it have the mentality of a lion. So at least they are living a life. I played American football for my whole life I was a wr I quite Bc I was in to computer engineering. And I never had a serious injury and took a lot of hits. And I’m glad I did

They asked about things like serious injuries: yes, several happen every year. Head injuries: It's a significant risk and the NFL even has rules trying to prevent/reduce them, but by the nature of the sport they can't stop many players from long-term brain trauma. Deaths: Rare, but it has happened.

It happens at all levels too, unfortunately. A freshman at my high school died on the field after a tackle in the first home game of the season. I was at the game and will never be able to forget the confusion and panic when he didn't get up; and will never be able understand how parents let their sons play the sport after witnessing that. A freak accident for sure, but there is always that risk.

I think the only one who has died on field was Charles H. in 1979 and it was from a heart attack rather than a hard hit or sum, but idk if someone got injured and died out of the field.

@@crisrheart9540 There have been a few deaths, but it was a really long time ago. There was that Vikings lineman that died in practice about 15 years ago, but I think that was a heart attack as well. Deaths do happen in collage and high school though.

Second of all, that's just one guy out of thousands of NFL players, hundreds of thousands of football players, and millions of athletes throughout other sports - which means it's far, far less likely than dying in a car accident. It's even less likely than being struck by lightning. I think he'll be okay.

As far as I know. At least in the professional leagues, there had been only been two deaths on the field during a game. Howard Glenn- New York Titans(before AFL/NFL merger)- October 9, 1960- Neck Injury Charles Hughes-Detroit Lions- Oct 24, 1971- Heart Attack

5:03 actually its rare for death to happen during an NFL game and it happened only one time in its history in 1971 Chuck Hughes who had a clogged artery and died due to advanced arteriosclerosis while on the field after running back to the huddle.

@Burt Macklin not quite sure what games you've been watching but they certainly are not one of those two... The game itself can sometimes be slow but the players themselves aren't, the reason they don't wear pads is because they know how to tackle safely or at least safer than in the past. i remember in high school marching band as a freshman, one of the senior high school football players had a major accident causing him to basically shatter his lower leg

I used to cover the local high school football team and the same thing happened to the star running back - the worse thing about it was the team was dominating the game but the coach kept him in so he could break the school's rushing record (and it cost them in the post season)

For the record. NFL players are trained and supposed to stand right back up as long as they aren’t injured. You just gotta take it. There’s no rolling around for 15 minutes like they apparently do in Soccer. American Football players live by an unspoken rule: “You get knocked down, get back up on your feet and get ready for the next play. No ifs, ands, or buts about it unless your injured.”

@@tina-hw3ut For you to say that means you have never seen American football close up, nor are in close contact with anyone who has played American football. There is no other team sport with the speed, power and violence of American football. Just ask the rugby players who tried to make it in the NFL or at the major collegiate level. If you want to understand the physicality of those who make it to the NFL, watch any pro football workout video on KZfaq. Then tell me truthfully of any rugby player who can match these warriors. You don't even want to see a NFL caliber nose tackle get into the scrum of a rugby game!

You need to do a rugby hits reaction. Much stronger hits and no padding.

That's actually been proven false a good middle of the spectrum football hit is the equivalent to a 30mph/48kph car crash or 20,000PSI on the body. Rugby hits also average like 20Gs whereas NFL hits are around 80-95Gs.
