Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater’s synthesis guru, demonstrates the surprisingly affordable Korg Minilogue Polyphonic Analogue synthesizer. Fisher zealously shows off the performance potential of the Minilogue, thanks to its generous array of dedicated knobs, toggle switches, and its gorgeous OLED waveform display.

The Korg Minilogue is a true 4-voice polyphony synth, with each voice having two Oscillators, a resonant 2/4-pole Lowpass Filter, an Amp, two Envelope Generators, and an LFO. Even the Audio In jack is sent, pre-Filter, to each of the four voices. When in DUO Mode, you have two voices with four oscillators per note. When in UNISON, you have eight oscillators for that note.
Daniel walks you through the architecture of the Minilogue and its parameters before demonstrating just some of the sounds you can create with it. All these years later and this is still one of the best synths on the market, IMO. All the parameters work so well together and make it feel like a real instrument. And nothing else sounds/looks like it.

you don't have to know much about synth terminology to play this instrument and in the process of playing it, you learn about synth because of the immediate feedback from the controls. highly recommended

+Geardos It is almost completely full-featured for a basic analog synth, but then it has the effects, sequencer, and arpeggiator. Here I was hoping that they'd release some Volca-esque poly synth with neutered features for $500... And then they come out with this monster, which has everything I could reasonably ask for, at that same price. Incredible, really.

+inthefade Right on - It really is the Mono/Poly of the future I was waiting for, Got the cross mod, ring mod with oscillator sync, and the key modes improve on the Mono/Poly as well. It looks great and it's not a huge thing with smaller keys, like the Odyssey or an odd shape like the MS-20, Delivery from American Musical Supply is estimated on Jan 30.

+Robert Saint John The Gaia is way different than this. This has 4 voices to Gaia's 64. The Gaia is a very digital sounding synth but it's basically 3 synths in one in addition to all the different effects and internal MIDI sounds. I really enjoy my Gaia but it;s in a different ballpark than the Minilogue. In a way, this thing is like a bigger, much better version of the monotribe.

+Franz134L How so?? Because it's "true analog"? LMAO I'd still take a ju-06/jp-08 over this until I hear something from it that doesn't sound identical to Volca keys in tone and noise. Which is what this is more than likely based off of. Notice the lack of pads in this video.......the envelopes in the volca keys suck too.......

The Minilogue also features Velocity to Filter, and Velocity to Amp, Portamento Times as well as Portamento Modes, MIDI CC#s for the parameters, the ability to sync its LFO, Voice Delay, Arpeggiator, Sequencer, and Portamento to an internal or external clock, plus a Panel Load feature that delivers the sound of the exact current settings of the front panel. Are you seeing this Yamaha and Roland? This is what people want. Not $500 digital rompers with no presets (reface). Or purposefully crippled virtual analog that is fully digital but only has four voices (Roland boutique/Aira) in an age when people are carrying around $150 super computers in their pockets.

+DJLemaj They sort of have no choice now. I'm returning the JU-06 and am pre-ordered on this one. Makes no sense to spend 300 on a 4-VOICE DSP VA synth... when 200 more gets me this absolute monster of a 4-voice, 2-osc, VCO VCF VCA synth with a full-fledged sequencer, delay, 200 memories, etc etc etc..... Cross Modulation... detunable unison... I mean really.. wtf. 100% win on Korg's hands.

sooperheep Any good chorus pedal would do it pretty well. But of course the Juno 106 & 60 are legends. I just think this little guy might end up being one itself. And I really just wanted an affordable Poly. This really accomplishes that.

Korg impresses. People bitch about mini keys but this will be next year's best hardware instrument. I have absolutely no money due to some major home repairs but I will find some way to buy this synth. It sounds amazing for the price point.

+Blacklily Orchard I think they are 3/4 keys, which are WAY better than minis. Everything I've heard about the way they play is that they are nice enough for one-handed playing. People who continually complain about that should, at this point, just get a good controller with full-sized keys and stop bitching and moaning.

I stand corrected... not mini keys. I was going to pick up an ms-20 one day but instead this will be my first Korg synth. I want it so bad.

Blacklily Orchard you'll be happy with not only the sound, but the build as well. I still have my Korg Delta DL50 (1978) and it still works perfectly, as well as my Poly61 (1983) again have not repaired either ever. Other than a battery replacement on the Poly61.

My thing is that I already have a good controller with full-sized keys, but this synth doesn't come as rack/desktop model so I'd be stuck with the awkward mini-keys that'd I'd never use taking up space.

Thank you, Sweetwater, for consistently concise and explanatory demos of new equipment instead of the often quick and more random audio only demos from other resellers online, who also often end up wasting viewers' time with 45-60 secs. of their videos with shameless self-promotion. Does it take that much time to say how to visit a website and order something (as though anyone online wasn't already fairly familiar with the process)???

Korg just dropped the A-Bomb on Roland, Yamaha, DSI, and all the others. Amazing! I was wondering why Roland launched their Boutique lineup so early before NAMM. Now I know why. They have likely heard of this ahead of time and went... uh-oh! We gotta launch NOW! Sales of Boutique will likely slow down now. Let's not even talk about the ReFace CS... Great job Korg, you've done it again!!!

Awesome demo. The only thing I missed here was showing how the delay mode works together with the delay effect to get a more spacious delay. I bet this can bring very neat delay patches.

At 9:31, it sounds like some 80's TV series, when something happens, like a plot twist in the middle of the episode, and people have that look of awe in their faces, and then it cuts to the commercial break. (shows like Hart to Hart or something...)

Reminds me of the Microkorg XL in terms of functions yet it's analog and has a ton of dedicated knobs. Good job Korg. Would have liked a traditional set of pitch/mod wheels and a stronger overall look but all in all this seems to be rather nice.
