I've had the Minilogue for several months now and it's a brilliant piece of kit. I'm a bit confused as to why you are holding down the shift button when you change the voice modes? I only use the shift when i'm deleting any sequences or the movement lanes. I just change the voice modes by pressing the mode i need, or am i missing something? I've obviously tried holding shift whilst choosing a voice mode but it doesn't seem to make any difference from just pressing the mode buttons without the shift button.

Help! I connect it to Ableton via USB and even though i set Global to CLOCK SOURCE AUTO (USB) the tempo doesn`t match that of Ableton. The tempo knob on Minilogue is the only way to match it. If i change tempo in Ableton Minilogue doesn`t follow changes. On my Minibrute when you sync it then the Tempo Knob on the Minibrute is bypassed. Anyone have an idea?

What's a preferred choice, one $3000 OB-6, or SIX MINILOGUES daisy chained together for the same price?
@DrWaltman
@DrWaltman 7 жыл бұрын
Depends on your needs. The OB-6 is a much richer sounding synth, just altogether a much better synth. Te Korg is a great synth for the money but not in the same league as a DSI poly synth. Not to say the Korg Minologue isn't great, it's just different. The OB-6 and Prophet 6 are much warmer in sound. The Pro 2 has tons more options. The Minilogue is a great budget synth.

+G. Willikers If you want to play chords, the choice is limited to one! On the other hand, the other two offer lots of fun and (in the case of the BS2) a slightly broader palette of sounds: you have some very nice filter options on the Novation, for example (LPF/BPF/HPF at 2/4 pole, plus the 'acid' filter). The build quality of the MS20 mini isn't so great in my opinion in comparison with the other two.

+G. Willikers Never get a mono as your first and only synth. You simply can't afford to limit yourself to not playing chords.
@dougaljames4027
@dougaljames4027 8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Gideon I got the Bass Station II as a first and currently only synth, but I have found the monophony really interesting, it's inspired me to think differently and write different sorts of lines. Plus, it's been great to mess around with getting to know the ins and outs of synthesis, because you're only given one note to play with at a time. Each to their own I guess. :)
@patrickgideon8584
@patrickgideon8584 8 жыл бұрын
That's cool, but music isn't just about a bunch of lines. The allure of mono synths are that they're fun, and have lots of fun knobs, but it will limit your ability to craft music. You may have taken this route, but at some point music requires chords to take it to the next level, which means more money, so it's best to just get something that can do both the first time. It's the fast nickle over the slow dime mentality, get a cheaper, more knobby synth now, or be patient, put more in and have more capabilities.
@dougaljames4027
@dougaljames4027 8 жыл бұрын
Patrick Gideon Yeah I totally see where you're coming from, but I think more what I meant was that, from years of playing dense and complex chords on piano in my writing process, its been refreshing to have to step back from that and think about singular lines and how they flow and how they blend with everything else happening in the music. I do agree though that if you were buying your first synth to begin playing and/or writing with, and you had no experience with chords, that it would somewhat limit your musical spectrum.

Not sure if this synth sounds fucking awful or whether it's the guy demoing it. But when you make a dive for the volume control the moment the demo starts, it isn't a good start, and it didn't get any better. The wave shaping for all waveforms, not just square, is a good idea, if hardly a new one, but overall, yuk.
@synthbe
@synthbe 8 жыл бұрын
+therealsweep1 I agree with you. everything I heard in this demo sounds like I ve heard it a dozen times before even from free VSTs. why are all manufacturers making yet another simple synthesizer with no special modulation possibilities or at least something NEW? Its not that I dont appreciate analog stuff, I own an andromeda A6 which is close to modular in terms of modulation possibilities, and I have yet to see something new and analog that comes close to it, let alone to top it. I also sold my so revered moog just because it's... well boring and very limited in sonic palette. I was just as dissapointed in the 2 new JD-X's from roland. The analog part was really very very limited. I tried it in my LMS and first thing I noticed was that the pure oscillator saw of the digital part sounded so much better than the analog saw. I wish manufacturers shut off their internet for a couple of years, did'nt look at what others were doing and just create the next mindblowing synthesizer instead of just more of the same...
@therealsweep1
@therealsweep1 8 жыл бұрын
+synthbe For me it's all about tone. It's interesting you sold your Moog, because I've had the same issues with the Voyager. When I bought an ARP Axxe and found it stimulated me more than the more sonically sophisticated Voyager it was quite an interesting experience. I think it's a matter of what appeals - the sound of this Korg may well appeal to some people. I'd just rather not hear what they do with it. I do wonder about people who don't hear the harmonically uncoordinated sonic mush when you open the filter on this synth, though.
@ronnieperez7650

+therealsweep1 I just hate that these are being demoed in such a VST-like manner. I would much prefer someone demo it the way you would something from the 80s. Not all this dub-step type stuff. We need Jean Michel Jarre to demo every single synthesizer that comes out from now on, or I'm going to lose my cool.
@swamplifecontrol

+Ronnie Perez How is this dubstepy or Vst like playing ? This guy is improvising with some well chosen sounds, and actually playing the rhythms against what the envelopes and filters are doing with some sensitivity and way better than average KZfaq demoing technique. The variety of what he plays actually makes sense in the context of the sound.
@ronnieperez7650
@ronnieperez7650 8 жыл бұрын
OneyedSon That's what I'm referring to, the majority of demo videos. I've personally noticed that when a synthesizer has presets built in, people's minds tend to turn off, and they switch through presets with no flair of any kind. I think, when demoing a synthesizer, it's imperative that you.. well... synthesize. From scratch. What sense is there to run through presets? I feel like an analog synth is a means of escape from the drudgery of software synthesis. One fundamental difference between the software synth and the analog one is that the analog one is gifted with the ability to sound VERY good, simply using basic waveforms and basic filtering. The software synth usually fails to sound very good with fundamental tones and sounds. Thus, the software synthesizer is forced to explore much deeper synthesis and FX to achieve very pleasing tones, whereas the analog synthesizer can make a pleasing sound simply by showcasing the oscillators and filters. A 100% analog poly-synth should be proudly showcased in the analog fashion. Not scraping through presets to mask the lack of dimension. At the very least, a presenter can clear out 10 or so preset memories and put his or her own creations in there. (Nick from sonicstate usually approaches it this way. He puts together some patches and demos his own.) When you demo your own creations, it's much more intimate, like "So, here I modulated the __ with __ and added some harmonic content to the __" ..as opposed to "So.. um.. this is a nice sound." VSTs strength is partly the ability to load a synth patch with 20 subtle LFOs, 10 more automation modulations, endless sequencer time (from the DAW), as many filters as you want, as many oscillators as you can want. It's an incredible strength! But the fundamental sounds being weak is why we always will come back to analog. So all I ask is that we demo analog in a way befitting to its strength -- pure tone.
