Great words Jonathan. People stop saying shit about Korn. Korn is a great Metal band. Like Davis said, "If it wasn't for Pantera and Dimebag. There wouldn't be Korn and some of the bands today.

I knew he was telling the truth when he said he was bitchin at Head and Munky to play solos. I remember several interviews with Dime back then and whenever he was asked about nu-metal his only gripe was no solos. He said he understood and even appreciated sitting on a simple groove and riding it out but he wanted them to grab the higher strings and make them sumbitches squeal and scream! He wasn't dogging them at all, he just wanted the next generations to be proficient. He needn't have worried though- his playing alone will continue to inspire players for generations.

nowadays i find that metal has a sort of nu metal groove along side epic solos.

@wrenchist

+x1134x It would have made Korn a much better band if they snuck a few in there, and Dime knew that. I like korn, but thats because the vocals are great and the riffs are pretty good, but the guitar playing isnt anything special like Dime.

@@dianemardini "solo" can also mean "breakdown" but Dime used a different riff for breakdown unlike most players.
@dianemardini
@dianemardini 4 жыл бұрын
@@wrenchist true. Well at least at the time that was true. Now not so much. But the metal scene has changed so much. Pantera was one of those bands that really paved the way. But with regards to what you're talking about, korn has breakdowns, like that's what makes them great. Solos are totally different from breakdowns. Breakdowns are usually after a bridge, (falling away from me, did my time, dead bodies, freak on a leash, embrace, etc.). Solos can just arise out of every where, usually after a chorus, that maybe goes into a bridge, or maybe just at the end of a song. All i'm saying is that I don't think that would fit korns sound. They DO have cool instrumental sections, and I don't just mean main riff sections. In Dead bodies, there's that cool jam a minute or two in. But yeah.

say what you want about korn, that first album of theirs can bring the rage and the anger like any metal out there. there's nothing put on about it. it's just honest rawness. although I can see why people rag on them. I'm personally not a fan of most of their stuff but that first album is just pure anger and heaviness. isn't that what heavy metal is all about?
