My thing with Leserafim is that they’re chasing trends, they’re diverting from their own thing just to stay popular and it’s not working. I can’t see who they’re anymore and you’re completely right on how their music is just passing the same message. They don’t really know who they are and I feel like Hybe has thrown this image on them bc it’s cool without thinking about how they’ll evolve

As an old (33yr old) kpop ahjumma this is just so sad. Idols back then were allowed to have 2 YEARS hiatus in order to rest and produce their own music. The groups now are constantly overworked, expected to make bangers every comeback when they only have a few months to prep and are pressured to be funny in variety content. That's INSANE. The idols need time in order to make bangers.

I think the biggest problem w kpop rn is the lack of identity of groups, now groups and companies prefer following constantly changing trends instead of putting something new on the table

With Twice, there’s two things I WISH they would do that just won’t happen atp: 1. Drop the damn retro sound, I’m SERIOUS. Retro songs are good and I enjoyed One Spark and SMF (esp their live performances), but they can do more. 2. PLEASE let other members sing. Nayeon and Jihyo literally have solo careers now, we do not need them to sing 70% of every song no matter how great their voices are. Mina, Jeongyeon, and Tzuyu can kill a lot of a vocal gaps if you reduce their lines to that of… NORMAL main/lead vocalists. Let an album have another member rank first in its distribution, let us hear someone elses voice in the group because genuinely since renewal even with solo activities (like Dahyuns acting or Misamo), it very much so still feels like there’s a certain two members the company cares about MUCH more than the other 7.

I relate to falling out of love with ones ‘faves’/ults’ or groups we used to enjoy so much, but at the end of the day, what’s most important it’s their music and how it connects with us. We shouldn’t force ourselves to continue to listen and consume music we might not enjoy anymore out of a sense of duty. As long as we’re not thereafter hateful, I think that’s just a normal part of being a human, and more simply just someone who actively listens to and likes music.

It's actually good that Billlie has a consistent sound. This is the sound I come to them for. If I wanted to listen to something else I would just listen to a different group. I don't understand why kpop fans want artists to have a 180 switch every comeback. Consistency is good.

I kinda agree with Stray Kids, and LSFM, love them both, but the recent music directions has me adding even less and less of their songs onto my playlists, but I do believe there is still time to comeback and sit in a sound that fits them best

To be honest, Lessarafim have never struck me as an authentic Kpop group. I always felt that HYBE was very intent on pushing this “we’re different from the other girl groups” narrative but the group didn’t do anything to actually counterfeit this narrative. They’re creative direction (to me at least) has always seemed like an amalgamation of different groups. I can see Gidle, Aespa, Blackpink, and Ive influence in all of their creative works. I had a feeling HYBE was going to trip over themselves at some point and struggle to upkeep the groups musical/creative direction.

I'm kind of surprised how much you and some people in the comments dislike 5-Star and Rock-Star, I think they're amazing. Especially the b sides. Topline, Hall of Fame, and Cover Me are all top 10 favorite skz b sides for me, maybe Megaverse as well. But, I am a new stay and those are the albums that got me into them, so it makes sense that they're near the top for me. I get why some people who have been fans of them longer wouldn't feel the same. While I disagree with you about the quality of their music going down because I personally think it hasn't, I do agree that they should take more time between releases. They seemed overworked to me in 2023 and I'm really glad they got that long break at the beginning of this year. It's very interesting to see how different people's tastes in music are & I hope those of you who like Stray Kids but didn't like S-Class & LALALALA will enjoy their next title track : ) ❤

For me it's BLACKPINK. There's a lot of groups I used to like and then I just don't listen to anymore. But BLACKPINK is one where I was a big fan but actively dislike now. From the mediocre to terrible music to the regression of skills, to the lack of any substance. They make it hard to support them.

I CAN'T relate at ALL during the billlie part. I respect your opinion, but I find their discography to be anything but disappointing or monotonous. Their music will always be impeccable FOR ME, emphasis on ME because I cannot force you to like it. I'm stating my opinion, which is, their concept and music till now is fucking PERFECT, every song is beautiful.

My ult group is skz, and i personally have really enjoyed their new music but i completely understand your point. They are really overworked and it seems they're doing something new every day so i can see how that my affect their music quality, and i share your excitement for their next album as they've had more time, i hope the members enjoy promoting it and get some rest 😭. I agree with you on Easy not sounding "genuine or comfortable" for LSF. I tried to listen to it or watch them perform it, but it always looks/sounds awkward to me. That feeling cemented when I watched someone's dance cover, and I felt like they performed the song well. I'm not an active fan of LSF but have enjoyed some of their previous songs.

For me, I still love Twice till this day. I mean sure their new output may not resonate with lots of stans these days, but it still resonate nicely with me, especially I Got You (I will adore this song as much as possible).

the only one i have to disagree with is billlie! eunoia album is quite possibly my favorite mini in kpop and definitely my favorite from last year. now that their members are all back from hiatus i'm so excited to see what they have in store for us next! they are constantly one-upping themselves imo and im so ready for a new ot7 project finally

Seems like I'm the odd one out, 5-member Billlie didn't reduce my enjoyment of them at all. I was a little worried at first, but Haram, Tsuki, Sheon, Siyoon and Haruna really stepped up to fill the gaps left by Moon Sua and Suhyeon. I think they will be all the better for it too, since their experience levels are more even now. Their Japanese title track from that era, 'DOMINO ~ butterfly effect', is my 2nd favorite after 'RING ma Bell'. I'd still put B-sides like 'the eleventh day', 'nevertheless', 'a sign ~ anonymous' and 'overlap (1/1)' before it though.

you know I completely agree with you on mcnd. I really didn’t like oddventure and waiting so long for their next release only for it to be basically the same song was super disappointing and my interest in them took a huge hit. still love their older music but I’m definitely not getting my hopes up for their future releases

Twice is interesting because I’ve only just gotten into them and I don’t really like their old music as much as their new ones. Idk why though. I usually only pay attention to groups that stay together for a long time because their discographies are more developed. It’s the same thing with me and SNSD. I love their older music more than I love Twice’s but their songs post 2014 AND ESPECIALLY THEIR 2022 album have most of my favorite songs. lol for the most part I don’t pay attention to newer groups until they prove to me that they are gonna stay together because I’m not gonna waste my time. But outside of a few groups I hardly listen to Kpop yet I eat analysis videos up😂

Billlie have way more range than most Kpop artists weird how you focused in on 3 songs that sound similar when on every album they have songs that sound different e.g. RINGXRING, Mcguffins - Who's The Joker?, Ring Ma Bell (What A Wonderful World), Lion Heart (The Real Me), Patbingsu, Starry Night, Highway Romance, Moon Palace, DOMINO - Butterfly Effect. Their music is so varied and interesting more so than s lot of groups out there. They've done so many different genres and I'm looking forward to what they do next!

for fifty fifty, if you still want to listen to their music, i recommend listening to it on a youtube playlist/compilation! i enjoy their music and love how it sounds but also don't want to support awful companies

Don't put Billlie down completely. I feel like the next comeback will be something special. The past year has been tough bc Billlie really does need all 7 members. I didn't really realize how much their music depends on having two main vocalists until Suhyeon went on hiatus. I get your criticism of sameyness but repeating themes in the instrumental is kinda their thing. It gives the music a more epic and/or cinematic feel and for dumb people like me I need help with the storyline so any sort of instrumentals that can help me piece things together is helpful. 😂😂😂

Dang we definitely have different views about Billlie. 😭 For me I still love Billlie’s discography and after ranking Billlie’s entire discography and all albums but their debut was over an 8/10 for me with Billage Chapter 2 being my favorite one out of them all. Also has a huge fifty fifty fan, it’s so heart breaking to see how the members were mistreated and their careers have been ruined now.

To me, I used to love SKZ & most of their music, however... LMB is just not it for me, as well as BabyMonster's Like That... I hope the company will be careful who will collab with next time. BTW, I dislike Charlie Puth so much... ever since Little Mix dislike him & that their song "Oops!" is their least fave song.

The problem with Le Sserafim (besides their vocal abilities "scandals") is that they don't really have a proper group and musical identity and their FEARLESS mature concept doesn't fit with Eunchae imo who is more bubbly and obviously younger. The songs don't fit the members' capacity and vocal range either. Their debut album was indeed flawless, but their recent releases aren't as impactful (except for the ones who managed to surpass the titles 'Smart' and 'Eve Psyche...' that should have been the title imo). They were a promising gg with a great start (Garam "scandal" aside), but I feel like I can't expect anything more from them, they don't have much more to offer, they're trynna follow the trends but as you said in a caricature manner, they lack this special involvement and link with the music they propose, it kinda feel like anyone could be Lesserafim if you replace the members. The songs aren't bad but it feels impersonal, it kinda lacks depth and experience.

i dont like the way kpop rushes these groups out anymore back in the earlier days it seemed more focused and dedicated to putting out well rounded singers rather than wannabe instagram or youtube influencers or dancers or idols who can only sing shouldnt be in group of idols who can dance well and so on. imho theres too much of it of a younger age for me to really care so much about every group or every piece of drama they have. there should be nice break from trends too i get its popular these days but idfk i just want some simplicity and variation in todays music as there was back in the good ole days before tiktok got ahold of music. i wish kpop wouldve learnt that less is more and that it is ok to debut them at maturer age range rather than just aiming for younger idols only to debut bc theres hardly anyone my age doing kpop so its like less appealling aside from what i like which isnt much nowadays. im also not on tiktok so therefore less likely to always care about choreographed routines all the time. sure i like the odd one or to choreographies but it dont mean im going to do them and post them lol. i also wish kpop was more than the looks or body statures of the idols. obvi the groups are going to have that one popular member or the one very rich member. but they should all equally have enough talent to stand out individually than always as a group or unit. it like current idols dont have enough personality really for me to trult be attached to them and maybe its my age but i kinda just want to freely enjoy these groups for their songs, i dont always want to care about what they post online either. i kinda wish social media hadnt been invented bc so much junk about kpop groups and idols does more harm than good esp if one member stand out more than the others and so on.

As a ONCE from 2019, I felt the same way as you did but I was too scared to admit that their newer songs(like One Spark and Set me free) were not like their older songs(like TT, Cheer up, and even Alcohol free).It felt like Twice as a group were losing their signature cheer and sounds as newer songs were released. I just wouldn't admit it because I've been stanning them for around 4-5 years.

I think that when it comes the Billlie, them barely releasing new music for the last year also can play a part on why you are not as invested on them now... I mean, you said you didn't like Eunoia's b-sides that much, and since then (also because of their Sua and Suhyeon situation) they have pretty much only done a single album and a japanese debut where all the b-sides were japanese versions of already existing songs, so there's barely any new music to judge them for after Eunoia's mini album. Now that they are 7 again, it seems like they will do some touring, and hopefully they next comeback after that will be at least a new mini album where they go harder on investment, this last year for Billlie has been pretty weird as a whole.

I'm a stay, fearnot and kinda of a once too so you imagine that... i actually agree with you. For SKZ, i think their taste is not stable, i always love their title tracks (sans LALALALA and Side Effects), but the albums after NOEASY are not my tea... they are just not that interesting. I love the S-Class album tho, but it would be better as an EP. For Le Sserafim, i think their 2023's album was a mess (no pun intended) too, such a playlist album, it didn't seemed like they tried to do an album, just thought "what we need as bsides for an album? EDM check, ballad song check, latin music check, a taylor swift imitation since she is trending check, oh and a funky music cause why not". I think all their releases are this way, trying to cover a lot of different fields, but on this album it really didn't matched at all. For TWICE, they clearly are so worried about being successful internationally and please western audiences (which is right for them) that i don't think they think too much about their imagine anymore, just go on the easy route. The new stray kids' song seemed like it, but it is good tho, just like twice also had good songs from 2023 and 24.

FIFTY FIFTY was mistreated by The Givers. Not Attrakt. The group is owned by Attrakt, but was formerly and operationally managed by THE GIVERS. Among their mistreatment was financial abuse. For example: The Givers had fraudulently signed contracts and falsified various signatures including that of Keena to reduce her song writing income percentage and made The Givers (not Attrakt) the main beneficiary of that income. (Similarly, The Givers also falsified the signatures of the creators of their hit song CUPID, and stole their income). The Givers functioned more like a subsidiary of Attrakt, although legally they aren’t structured as such. The Givers stole and defrauded both Attrakt and former members of Fifty Fifty.

I completely agree about Twice, Skz, and I could even add Itzy, they were 3 JYP groups I was enjoying a lot in the years 2019-2022s, but at some point for the 3 of them, their music wasn't appealing to me anymore. It lacked impact, evolution, growth, originality, quality, or just cohesion, I can't enjoy their new titles and albums. They're not catching up with the trends or setting new ones. I barely or don't hear at all about their new releases, and when I do listen to them, they're not memorable, they're not necessarily bad, but they're really forgettable and not to my liking anymore. Competition is tough, some old and new groups with fresh concepts and comebacks, with high-quality sounds, versatility and talents are arriving or surpassing themselves, so repetitive styles with way too many releases can easily get lame. These 3 groups had so much potential to keep leading their generation but unfortunately probably reached their peak already

Personally, I think that K-Pop Boy Groups in particular often share a similar Problem: They tend to repeat the same Theme over and over, especially in their Title Track. You can only sing about how great you are and keep it exiting for a limited Amount of Times in a certain Time Span, especially if you only release Music infrequently. Especially with MCND, I don't really get the Feeling that they've gone anywhere really, their Music has softened a bit, but it still sounds like something they could have done already when they debuted imo. With Stray Kids, it's similar, but it's not like they didn't evolve, but it feels like only certain Aspects evolved. Especially in Terms of the overall Vibe of the Songs I more or more get the Feeling that they feel obligated to bring a "noisy" Title Track and while Production-wise they certainly feeling bigger and more exiting, the Lyrics don't. NMIXX' O.O's Lyrics got bashed a lot, but it's not like SKZ' current Lyrics are much better. "Burst your eardrums bang bang head banging with soaking wet Hair"? "Inhale, C'mon, breathe Oxygen, gotta move fast that Body, Guitar, Base, Drums, paint your Nails pitch black"? "Yeah we tick tock boom Chiquita"? (What does Baby Monster have to do with this?) Like you are not telling me those are good Lyrics.

I'll be honest here, but my relationship with kpop is so weird atm. I don't really listen to it that much anymore, and I'll go weeks without listening to any kpop, but then i remember it for a day. With all respect to the groups, i just don't find myself interested in it as much as i used to.
