Yooh Mkuru... Inafaaa utupigie story ya post election violence in Kenya ya 2007. In the context of creating awareness about our upcoming elections. kuna people who have never known how it started especially how it went down in Uasin Gishu eldoret. Would love to hear your narration of course with that genius mind of yours narrating it with humor and still passing the intended message. Shukran in advance. Wakurugenzi pigeni likes hapa kama mnataka Mkuru atupigie hii story. Adios Muchachos i am out. Peace

As usual, hataari sana 🙏 A few points to note 📝: - every aircraft leaves behind something called a wake turbulence (vortex). The larger the aircraft the bigger the wake turbulence. Turbulence affects how much lift is generated by the wings since the airflow is non uniform and non directional( chaotic). So during take offs or landings, there's always a separation distance when 2 aircrafts of different weight classes are landing/taking off to allow the wake turbulence from the preceeding aircraft to dissipate. - We have 2 pilots(or more) in commercial aircraft for a reason. During take off or landing, one pilot is the pilot flying the other is pilot monitoring. The pilot flying as the term suggests is in charge of flying the aircraft while pilot monitoring is checking the aircraft parameters during flight remain as they should be. In this case Wamwea was the pilot flying and Wanyoike was the pilot monitoring. Wanyoike should have noticed the unusual bank attitude and informed the captain - Commands and executions are always read back to confirm that both pilots are on the same page. So when when Capt Wamwea called for "Autopilot " he should have waited for "Autopilot Engaged" from his copilot to confirm his command has been executed before letting go of the control column -While Spatial Orientation is real, this should not have been a problem if both pilots were a team. My assumption is they were flying under IFR (Instruments Flight Rules) meaning they didn't need any reference outside of the aircraft to tell the attitude of the aircraft. They were supposed to rely solely on the Instruments inside the cockpit to fly. Unfortunately this role falls squarely on the pilot monitoring, he should have called out any unusual attitude indications. It's unfortunate that in aviation most lessons are learnt the hard way. Condolences to the families many years on, and hopefully many more lives will be saved as a result of lessons learnt from this incidence. Thank you Mkuru and team for keeping us entertained, educated and informed

@@conrado. When air moves over a wing it creates a zone of high pressure underneath the wing and low pressure above it due to the curvature of the wing as air above the wing has to travel faster than air below to cover the same distance. This pressure difference results in a suction force lifting the wing into the air. Now, you want the air to remain in contact with the wing as much as possible and to flow in a uniform manner over the wing (laminar flow). When the flow of air in contact with the wing ceases to be uniform, the flow becomes chaotic and unpredicatable. We say the flow now is turbulent. Think of it like water flowing along a uniform slope vs water flowing over rocks/rapids. One is more calm while the other is chaotic and noisy. This drastically reduces the lift produced by the wing hence affecting its performance - Wake turbulence is a bit different. You see as you approach the wingtip the wing becomes thinner and thinner. Due to the difference in pressure above and below the wing, this air spills over in a spiral manner creating a vortex/ a zone of very fast moving air and very low pressure. Imagine wake turbulence as a large ship moving through water at a considerable speed creating huge waves. Then a small boat is moving right behind it. The small boat might not be able to cope with the waves and if it can cope its going to be very difficult to cotrol. So its adviced to let the waves die down before attempting to follow the big ship Aerodynamics is a difficult and complex subject but i hope umepata kitu. Cheers

@@conrado. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5aHha2lvdzUg6M.html You can dig more into fluid mechanics. Btw turbulent flow is very important because it allows things to mix faster. When you stir tea to dissolve sugar youre actually creating turbulence to allow the contents to mix up faster

The story is personal before the flight , my family friend and neighbor, Andrew Kiuru( the 1st officer) had visited us in a jovial mood having bought his first car. Saddest still he was the only kid to the Kiuru's and the airline had initially blamed him with a stupid argument of inexperience. R.I.P Dru

This was indeed a sad sad story in the airline industry 😢 I’m in the airline industry for 9 years now and I can tell you it’s never a good idea to be impatient as far as flying us concerned. One of the greatest pilots I know told me ‘you’d rather wish you were in the air while on the ground rather than wish you’re on the ground while in the air. I really love your narration of aircraft stories. Greetings from 🇺🇸

Mkurugenzi you are really an Aviation Enthusiast. Mpaka explanation yako ni poa sana na rahisi kwa mtu kuelewa. I also think that both pilots would have acknowleged each others communication like vile alisema "Engage Autopilot" , First Officer would have acknowledged and said "Autopilot engaged". This needs to be adopted in any field even in a one on one communication to avoid miscommuniation.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is an independent U.S. government investigative agency responsible for civil transportation accident investigation. In this role, the NTSB investigates and reports on aviation accidents and incidents, certain types of highway crashes, ship and marine accidents, pipeline incidents, bridge failures, and railroad accidents. The NTSB may assist in incident or accident investigations occurring outside the United States under certain circumstances. These may include accidents or incidents involving American-registered or American-owned civil aircraft or aircraft with U.S. manufactured components in foreign air space. KQ was using a boeing 737-800 therefore the US had interest in understanding the crash.

That's a beautiful narration of KQ 507. However, there were no Kenyan passengers, the only Kenyans were crew mainly Cpt. Wamwea, FO kiuru, Flight Engineer (can't remember his name), Flight Purser Phyllis, Flight Attendants Shantaben, Lydia, Allan and Kadurenge. The military culture (both in the flight deck and the cabin) has since been dissolved and replaced with a civilian approach. Crew Resource Management is encouraged and confidential reports through a specialized system to report any level of toxicity has been highly effected. Let's say, the incidences are fewer now. Until resurrection morning my former colleagues, continue resting in peace

@@susankahugu yes you are right I confused the two, he was my cousin such a lovely soul, I was a young girl when it happened. Funny enough I ended up working for the same airline in 2013 as passengers service , really wanted to end up in crises management but ended up in administration ground handling equipments, then America happened, those incidents made me value my colleagues in the industry including the flight crew because it reminded me life is so short one day am here next am not so treat everyone like it was the last time I will ever see them again.

Kama kawaida, Mkuru never disappoints with these aviation stories.. One hell of a story teller! As an aviation enthusiasts myself i love every single aviation story you put out here ! 👏👏 Now.. of all the commercial aviation accident stories I've heard caused by pilot errors, this one always sounds strange everytime I hear it and leaves me wondering how these two ended up in the same cockpit. This must have been the worst crew to ever be in a cockpit to supposedly "work together" lol Of all other reasons given as to why this accident happened.. Lack of CRM (Crew Resource Management) clearly played a huge part. In as much as the responsibility of the safety of a flight from take off to landing almost always rests equally with both pilots, this was clearly a mismanagement of the flight by no one but the captain, he was more experienced and more knowledgeable about the aircraft, and as is always the case, the person in command on the flight deck during an active flight. I say this because this pilot, given the reports that he had asked the FO to perform some tasks during the first leg of the flight and reprimanded him and called him unpleasant names because he couldn't perform the tasks well or to his liking/standards obviously thought he was in the cockpit alone and did not need or recognise that he had a FO by his side, probably because he was young and inexperienced. He (pilot) had established himself as Lord and Messiah in that cockpit and whatever he said went without question! Which should never ever be the case in commercial aviation. The situation is further compounded by the breakdown in communication between him and the now timid and scared FO to a point they were doing their own things at the same time, overiding each other's commands to the aircraft, which is a very dangerous scenario in a cockpit in active flight. Bottom line.. they were all confused and in their confusion, together with the spacial disorientation, confused the aircraft even more and there was just no time to recover from the dangerous attitude they had put the aircraft in. Such a thing should never be happening in commercial aviation in this era, and I hope everyone concerned learnt afew lessons from that. 🙏🙏
