I think they, I, and many other adults are more accustomed to post-first-movie badness, where the show became an enormous, boring drag from lack of creativity and mean-spirited flanderization. I remember noticing a promising change in quality when Steven Hillenburg came back; more energy, more connective tissue with the old series, the works. Now though it's just been running *so* dry that they're throwing nonsense at the wall with nothing sticking, actual jokes being replaced with obnoxious goofy faces every second and "wacky shenanigans" nonstop. The old show was so special because of its restraint; when it went off the wall, it carried much more punch because of the usual chill pace and strong verbal jokes. Now it's like we're witnessing the show slowly die of hypothermia, going numb and releasing all endorphins in the body before it finally expires.

Glad to notice that I'm not the only one who noticed the lack of fart jokes in SpongeBob. Like, the show has doubled down on the gross-out humor over the years, but unlike a lot of other Nickelodeon shows, it seems to draw the line at that. Maybe because the show came out during a more "classic" era of cartoons, and fart jokes are generally more of a modern cartoon thing? I dunno, I've already put way too much thought into this... There is one in Pre-Hibernation Week, after Sandy says the line "The giant clams like to feed at this hour!" There's also a recent Kamp Koral episode with an, erm...rather cursed scene that I could only imagine how you guys would react to. (It's the episode _Help Not Wanted._ You're welcome.)
