He's got a fever... and the only prescription... is more Krag-Jørgensen rifles!
(and carbines and short rifles)
Thanks to a high number of variations courtesy of the George Moller Collection, it was only inevitable before someone at RIAC caught Krag Fever. With so many fascinating developmental changes and uses, it is an extremely contagious affliction. Take a look with Austin at some of the models in our October 2021 S&C auction, but be careful - you just might catch the bug.

Love my '96 Springfield Krag carbine! Smooth as a Krag! Not only America's first smokeless but our first bolt action and first full metal jacket. The Pederson Device was the stripper invented for it. Run and Gun did an episode where the Krag carbine without any stripper beat out the K98!

My older brother has our Great grandfathers Krag from Cuba, he was a Major in the Ohio National Gaurd. We used to shoot it with our dad when we were kids, long, long ago, l haven't even seen it for 30 years.

He became a General in the AEF, we also have his M1911 pistol. I saw one in a pawn shop about a year ago, l said damn. Both the Colt and the 30/40 Krag are supposed to go to my son, they are both keepers. We also have his dress sword and a wicked nasty trench knife, a triangular blade thing. From the war to end all wars. yeah right

That Carbine is so cool, what a modern innovation for the time. I am sad that these didn't hang out in service longer.

Smokeless powders that is equivalent to 40 grains of black powder.? That is what I’ve always been told. The Krag had the best rear sight I’ve seen on any rifle. I absolutely love it.

I have an 1898 rifle and 1898 that was sporterized into a carbine (both of which I got at RIA), but I've never learned more about old rifles than taking them apart, cleaning them, and putting them back together again. That's including taking apart my 1903 and putting it back together again. Other than being in .30-40 Krag, I couldn't recommend a Krag more. Then again, if you're looking for a practical bolt action, maybe a Krag wouldn't be your first choice anyways.

I have a nice 1896 Pray rifle with matching year bayonet , scabbard and frog. The only thing is you can barely read the cartouche. I don't think you showed an 1896 unless I missed it? Thank you.

I know this is isn’t forgotten weapons but I have a 1894 marked sn 5025. The barrel length is 28” and has been turned down for the 1905 bayonet, as well as sporting a 1901 sight. It also sports a 1898 cartouche on the stock. Sadly it has been cut up into a deer rifle at some point. Do I have a thrown together krag or perhaps a battle field rifle that was updated after stock damage or such?

(From Austin, the narrator of this video) During their service life a lot of Krags went through numerous updates, and after their service life many were sold through the DCM program or through Bannermans catalogue, with plenty converted into sporting rifles and/or reconfigured with various parts by Bannderman. Since these rifles were considered more available and plentiful at the time (before people were worried about collectability) converting them to sporting rifles to be used for hunting was a popular thing to do at the time, especially during the Depression era. Regardless, your rifle would have started life as a Springfield Model 1892 Second Type rifle and is early enough to leagally be considered an antique, which also means it could have possibly seen use in Cuba and the Phillippines during its early service!

Husker på Landskytterstevnet i 2006, Målselv, så var det en på stangskyting som klarte å skyte fort nok til at han hadde 3 tomhylser i lufta. Husker ikke om det var med en Krag eller Sauer.

Every time you called it a "Model 1898 Krag Rifle" was like nails on a chalkboard. You lost all credibility. They are US Springfield rifles...Models 1892-1898 Springfields to be exact. Made at the Springfield Armory. Krag was the nickname.

@@RockIslandAuctionCompany What are you arguing? "Krag" is still not the ACTUAL name of the rifle. I thought I would have heard the ACTUAL name mentioned at some point in a 20 minute video...and how the US troops at the time usually referred to the firearm by its nickname. A comparable comparison is the "Trapdoor," a nickname for the US Springfield Rifle used from about 1867 to 1892.

In all serious your attempt to look like the smartest guy in the room is laughable in best. The only thing you've succeeded in is showing yourself for who you are, a fake expert. No actual SMEs will take you seriously.
