I really did love how Kratos changed from being a vengeful Warrior to a father willing to risk his life for his son. Kratos: We will be the gods WE choose to be. Not those who have been. Who I was is not who you will be. We must be better.

I really felt bad seeing Kratos look out onto all the destruction he had caused. I get the sense that he felt that even with everything he did he did not feel better. A common revelation of revenge.

Well i would like to point out something that according to the director of GoW3 Stig Asmussen (mainly) Cory Barlog and David Jaffe aswell (In the same video that you mentioned) They do mention that what Kratos does in GoW3 wasn't really him doing any selfless act, he just wanted to die his work was done. Him releasing the Power of Hope was a By-Product of his actions.

@@aidenparker5955 yes you can totally have that, but I was pointing out what the devs said. So if a lot of people think he changed In norse lands, that might primary canon. And besides this, there was a very long time span between GoW3 and GoW2018 that's not been explored, which was said by Cory Barlog that Kratos does even fall further during that time period many times, and that actually prepares him to make that change, and that change happens after he meets Faye.

He's obviously vengeance driven but the first time I noticed the biggest change in his nature is when he isn't willing to sacrifice pandora for his own benefit/cause. Clearly he sees his daughter in her and wants to "be better" by not making the choice that his old self probably wouldn't think twice about. It obviously took some time but when he originally opened the box in the first GOW thats when he gained hope and slowly changed because of it.

I agree that Kratos was always going to change ever since his final battle with Zeus. Kratos just knew that his revenge amounted to nothing. In fact, Kratos learned this lesson of how pointless revenge is when he killed Ares and didn't get what he thought he wanted. Kratos even tried to kill himself, but wasn't allowed to by the Olympians. In a sense, Kratos changed for the worse during the Greek era because he wasn't given the choice to change for the better. However, after the fall of Olympus, he had the choice to change for the better, and although it took a while and he had help from family and allies, Kratos changing for the better made sense for his character and journey.
@HitmanHimself
@HitmanHimself Жыл бұрын
why did you delete you comment lol? i wanted to give out some more info. There is a big lack of knowledge about Kratos being saved by olympians. Athena doesn't let him die (saves him from suicide) but directly/indirectly she did better for him. His nightmares wouldn't go away if he killed himself, a mortal dies they go to the underworld living with their memory. It's not my headcanon, it's said by the devs. Despite this, Hades wanted to take revenge on Kratos by torturing him. (Persephone matter) It was only better that he stays on earth. Hades says that he will do it in GoW3, as well as In GoW2 it was mentioned by Gaia, and in the GoW2 novel he says that too. I wanted to send the link of the video and novel screenshot but youtube deletes my comment.

One thing I always questioned about the Greek era games is if the Kratos we see was the real Kratos. The reason being is because he was on into situations where he couldn't really think things through only react to them the way he was trained to, as a Spartan. This is where as the norms put it Zeus's choice eventually lead him to his demise, he could've allowed Kratos or his many many many other children to have a life that they could put thought into and understand the consequences of their actions but he didnt out of fear of this alleged curse that was only in effect because of his lines negligence. This is the lesson Faye taught kratos to be available to Atreus and not put him through this neglect that could lead to Atreus becoming the Loki we see in the mural siding with Odin after Kratos's death. That's what I think we missed as well as the norns they were under the assumption of this vicious cycle but failed to read the context and see Faye's final action her sacrifice to end the cycle of neglect and fear and bring in a new perspective of learning to understand others, and that choice is stringer than fate, which is the lesson Odin failed to learn.

Kratos is no where near better, he's just trying not to be a destroyer of gods because he doesn't want to get into others business. But because he's the last of a dying breed of Greek demi gods his rage is extremely high from the constant wars of himself. I don't think kratos is any better. He's just more quiet than ever 😂 and I think that's because he's a father and stranger in a unique land he learned to adapt to To say he's stronger is true. But to say he's better? I don't know about that.

Anyone else see the GoW universe as kinda like Marvels Battleworld? Where Dr Doom of 616 created and rules an earth that has the remains of every world in the multiverse? Kratos was never meant to be. Think about it, there’s no written ending to the Greek gods in normal myth, and he changed Ragnarok too. So we won’t see “another Kratos” but we see similarities between pantheons, and apparently they all share an earth but different sections of it. Like how old man Logan travels and comes across different characters of the people he already knew who have passed in his timeline

After playing through every god of War game, that I could, i honestly do think that Ragnarök is my favorite. I’ll add to this by saying, I don’t know why we’re choosing this video of all videos to say which our favorite is, but since people are doing it, I thought I might as well do it too. Also, one last thing. I can safely say, that in my personal opinion, there really isn’t a single God of War game that is truly bad. Even Ascension I honestly really like. In a series of great and wonderful games, why are we so obsessed with putting just one up on a pedestal, and basically saying “this one, this is the one that’s truly the best, and no other comes close.” That’s just ridiculous. They’re all great games in their own ways.

@@yokotubene Perhaps most people are mainly in it for Kratos, but I also think that most people are open to there being other playable characters other than Kratos. Plus, Kratos’s portions definitely are longer than Atreus’ portions. I don’t really think it’s even close to being as big a problem as you think it is. Plus, even disregarding that, you can not to deny that the way you said it was extremely childish. You’re basically saying, “it has to be my way, and no one else’s!” I do believe you’re really just terrified of change, and the fact that it’s different is something you can’t get beyond.

As someone who only played the Norse games I don’t try to comment on how things have changed simply because I have not played the old games but I just personally enjoy the growth of Kratos going from a cold, guilt ridden and neglectful dad to a warm father who is now loved by the world he helped save from Odin. From what i’m seeing of the old game God of War 3 it seems that set up for his growth was planned for a new game to tackle.

I follow God of war since the beginning it was nice to see Kratos change to what he's become he was fated to be a monster and fated to take down the corrupt ways of the gods for better or worse. He was raised as a soldier lost his brother tricked to kill his wife and child lied to by those who were supposed to be family learnt that vengeance didn't make everything right got a new family saw his old ways were not the best way. He raised a fine young man. His son also fated to bring change better or for worse he lived to learn that there's more to life but his own he had a closed heart but learnt to open it and learn from his past to help the future. Yeah if this is it for Kratos great he deserved it. Heck I'd be just fine playing as Kratos going around helping people and doing good pick up were Tyr left off.

I personally think that it's not that Kratos changed too much, as like you said he was always meant to, but simply that he seems to have changed too quickly over the course of just one game (Ragnarok). One could chalk the seemingly sudden change in character up to 2018 originally being intended as the first of a new trilogy although that decision was changed somewhere after the fact. Granted, there was also a few years of off-screen change for Kratos between the two games. Ragnarok itself as a game feels like it was originally meant to be two games with two games worth of story & character development crammed into one game, so the plot suffers in places and certain characters change seemingly out of nowhere because they have to be in certain positions for the latter section of the story to happen.

I always like how in GOW 2018 Kratos always has to say that any favor he does to someone was for a selfish reason and because he could benefit from it. Me personally, I've always pictured Kratos singlehandedly destroying all pantheons one by one (from weakest to strongest) and putting an end to the concepts of religion and mythology as a whole, but for more heroic reasons and they all get replaced by the power of hope and balance afterwards. I've also envisioned the GOW franchise merging/crossing over with Jeff Smith's Bone franchise, with Kratos and Fone Bone basically becoming amalgamated and he has his scrapped blue tattoo look.

Kratos breaks the prophecy by truly changing down to his core, he's supposed to die because it's "fate" but the only reason fate exists is because 9 outta ten times people don't change thus tying them to fate being on how kratos truly changes when telling Atreus to open his heart in this action and his fight with Thor where he chooses to stop fighting he breaks his bond to fate being on how people don't change it makes them predictable thus tying them to their fate and with the final piece of the prophecy shows kratos the destroyer dying and Kratos the rebuilder standing tall with love and adoration

Across gow1 to 3 Kratos has a LOT of help, he dies twice and is saved countless amount of times by allies The reason why it feels like “it wasn’t enough” is because people have a “full power” Kratos in their head that doesn’t exist

Most people think he's changed because he clearly has, also you are talking like he reveled in killing his family when he literally had to be tricked in a blind rage into killing them, just because a random oracle did what she did doesn't mean he can't change, this is a bizarre argument.

@@edwardarroyo834 U clearly missed my point. But like John said, it’s about opinion. I would explain further but you still won’t understand so that’s that 🤷🏾‍♂️

No *his fate was to make more money* and abandon the real image of what a "Kratos" should be ,leaving us pissed off off the "Holding back" complex😒.

I disagree. I think this new God of war feel too Disney. Kratos feels too weak and watered down for my liking.

@@vlad_47 Undead fodders could kill Kratos in the Greek games too, that's a weird reason to be upset. Valkyries are literally supposed to be strong superbosses, Mimir even comments on how tough they are, Sigrun was only slightly weaker than Freya who was pretty strong herself. I kind of agree with the Berserkers though, but again they are side bosses that aren't important to the main story. It's definitely less epic, but the Spark of the World gives off some og GoW games vibes. The boss fights aren't family friendly at all, Freya literally takes Nidhogg's head off, they are less brutal, but far from family friendly. I wish we fought more Gods too though.

@@vlad_47 The differences are big, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, if the combat is still engaging that's all that matters, and to most, myself included, it is. I do think Odin got off easy, but i don't think Thor deserved a super brutal death, although beating him with his own hammer would have been epic.
