This video started off as a pretty "show off" monogram design that I created on the gorgeous Kreative Kiwi Machine Embroidery Scalloped mug rug and some pretty pink fabric from Cricut.com.
Before the design had finished stitching, I realized that I made a mistake...more than once! Before the satin stitches started (the final step) i realized that I had cut the fabric too close! OH NO! The mug rug was pretty much ruined!! The satin stitches need to cover up the edge of the applique fabric, otherwise you will have fraying fabric and other disasters that makes the finish product...well...unfinished.
Normally people would unhoop this disaster embroidery - NOT THE KREATIVE KIWI DESIGN, MY CRAPPY TRIMMING! but it was so pretty and so close to being finished. So I cam up with a quick fix solution that doesn't change any of the Kreative Kiwi design, but does fix my mistakes!!
It was a great save, and easy to do - took only a few minutes and the resulting product looks perfect! you can't tell that I made mistakes or where I made mistakes! I picked a thread color that matches and blends in, but you can still see the stitches - so it looks like more embellishment!
Instead of tossing out your mistakes that ruin embroidery, keep it in the hoop and see if there is an easy solution! This solution consisted of digitizing one line, picking a motif stitch and stitching down the fabric. And it saved the day!!

Thank you Sue, I think all of us at one time or another has been confronted with an "oops" moment and that dreadful heart sinking feeling. It is wonderful to see you think outside the box with a solution. Machine embroidery is not perfectionism it is creativity and this is a "creative" solution. Brilliant!

I find that if you tack the batting down first, I always use 2 passes of this step, then trim it, then repeat to add the fabric with 2 passes, it is much easier to trim the fabric and less chance of cutting too close.

it happens!!! this happened while filming, of course near the end. If the camera was on me, you would have seen a sad/mad face, LOL. Thanks for sharing!! hopefully your friend can fix it! i saw it suggested here and in the OML Embroidery University facebook group that if you have already taken the coaster out of the hoop, try some fancy sewing machine stitches.

This is such a good way to overcome these issues but, unfortunately, I haven't got any digitising software. It is all far too expensive for me. Most times I have trimmed the fabric short is due to being left handed and using right handed scissors. Some manufacturers make the handle left handed but don't change the blades over and this means it is nigh on impossible to see where I am cutting. So, now I have my left handed duck billed scissors I haven't had so much problem with trimming but if I do it is spoiled. I just keep the project for myself as only I will know!

I wonder if in the dream machine you can create a stamp in IQ designer of the outline and then pull it up in IQ and make it smaller and add a stitch from there also maybe the candle wick or chain? Yours look so nice and a great idea thank you
