Although in the film close-up it is evident that he needs a shave and the stress in the bunker has taken its toll. Chuikov and his staff have shaved recently. There are remains of snacks on the table, pickles and so on - they seem to have been having breakfast/lunch/dinner in a relaxed manner when the Germans arrived, taking them by surprise.

Thank you so much for this. The fact that this scene was not shown in its entirety in the DVD release makes me feel cheated.

The letter Krebs hands to Chuikov should have been headed Grossadmiral (Grand Admiral) Dönitz, not Admiral.

Wait, real question, why is marshal Zhukov wearing the shoulder boards of a Colonel General, when he is supposed to be a Marshal?
@Hellston20a14 күн бұрын
This is Chuikov not Zhukov. He would become a Marshal only after the war.

@@Hellston20a dammn. i always thought it was Zhukov. their name are similar, but one is incompetant who is their because he kiss stalins a**, and the other one is top greatest army leaders in history.

@@Hashimania Not denying the Soviets harbor cronies lol. But Chuikov is competent, though not a genius like Zhukov. He was responsible for holding Stalingrad.

@archer8849 @Kyanzes As a Russian, I can say that although the accent is noticeable, his Russian is quite understandable and commendable. It was even grammatically correct, what is difficult for non-native speakers, especially who are not Slavs.

Officers of the Soviet "staff" very surprised that due to wear the wrong order. At that time it was considered a crime. But you can understand Chuikov - the policy requires to go on the non-standard measures.

Why did he hide the plain cloths in the closet?
@MrPikachu536 жыл бұрын
Edward Lo i think the 3 were war reporters and the drawings were propaganda Chuikov wants them to report. 2 of them wore army uniform while one wore plain cloths. Thus, when the germans arrived, chuikov gave the 2 of them medals to pretend to be his generals and the last one, as he was wearing plain cloths, had to hide because no way chuikov had time to dress him up as a fake general.
@Kyanzes2 жыл бұрын
@@MrPikachu53 I think the question is really: why couldn't the plain clothed guy just leave via the door? How would that lowered Chuikov's honor? Or did he want him hear everything?
@stevekaczynski379314 күн бұрын
@@MrPikachu53 The one in the dark uniform was a naval officer with the rank of captain 3rd class (more or less the equivalent of commander in the US Navy). But he was probably there as a war correspondent. The other one is only a junior lieutenant in the Red Army. He handed them medals to look more impressive.

@@Kyanzes I am not sure but having someone at all in civilian clothes may have been considered inappropriate during formal negotiations with an almost defeated enemy, and he preferred to conceal his presence.
