I keep,finding more, and more Kreg jigs. Thanks for the great video. Always helps to see these products working on actual jobs. Your voice has the right cadence for instructional videos.

Well you answered my question on screwing down from both sides... What about shrinkage? Just tighten as needed?
@alexc53692 жыл бұрын
I find with even using the smaller spacers, 1/4 inch I think, when I put the jig in between the timber to do the other side of the board, it will hit the other board and damages it. Am I doing something wrong

Ok...I bought the Kreg jig for my deck. Deck is 14'x16'. Using a bucket full of Kreg screws, using the required spacers, it came out great! I used manufactured boards from local big box store. No visible screw holes on top, and can be seen at an angle. But....was VERY time consuming! Double the length of usual time of installation. The lead board against the building will have to be screwed straight down from the top. I just filled in the screw holes with some clear silicone & was good to go.

I was wondering the same thing, what if you have to replace a board in the middle. i doubt you can get the tool in to remove the screws...

I haven't seen a demo (anywhere) on putting in the first bit of deck up against a wall.

@ROMEYYOUROCK The holes are on the side of the wood and not really visible at all from the top, especially after the deck is assembled.

I tested it myself. No big deal to install. Although, I am not installing my deck. It is too big, 5000 sq ft. To replace the wood, you dont have to use the tool. Just put the screw in and reverse it out. It is the one of the few systems that could replace one piece of wood without taking a entire deck off
@flyingrcdotnet13 жыл бұрын
@ROMEYYOUROCK The slanted holes are very visible and generally cut on the back or unseen face of the wood. Kreg deoes make plugs for them however that can fill them in but will only hide them on a painted piece.

I can see the timber splitting during dry / wet cycling of weather. Even standard deck screwed in from top cannot hold some warping.

@ROMEYYOUROCK sorry about the other answer. I ws thinking the regular Kreg jig....its been a long day

Almost wonder if you even need to pre-drill, especially with how wet today's lumber is.

I haven't needed to with treated or cedar decking... Absolutely with any brazilian teak or other hardwoods!

If you guys look at 2:52 seconds, he screws in a hole AND screw to the side that board is already laid. So yes, repair and replacing of the boards is just as easy as the install. LOL! people crack me up.

what is the recommended thick of wood ?? 1/2 inch is possible??
@jlr14876 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend 1/2", deck floor hare usually done with 5/4" (1 1/4" nominal, 1" actual)
@surveyguyor89583 жыл бұрын
I do believe kreig says like 1" or 1 1/2" only

I love the Kreg Jig idea. I just bought Kreg Jig deck builder and Kreg Jig K5. I am in Thailand and they don't have Kreg Jig screws here, I think I am screw if I can't find screw for my Kreg Jig here in Thailand. I wish they would make it universal, I guess that is capitalism and you have to use all there products. Any suggestion, I would really appreciated and many thanks.
@flyingrcdotnet9 жыл бұрын
the design of these screws is why they work and others cannot be substituted. Can't you get them from an on-line supplier?
@maidayjeen69199 жыл бұрын
Thank you thintz12 for your responded. GREAT news, I'v found some company here in Thailand that sell Kreg products. Thanks again and have wonderful day.

Hi Mai Dayjeen, I am in Thailand as well and new for kreg tool. I also can't find out any kreg supplier in Thailand. Could you suggest me?
@flyingrcdotnet7 жыл бұрын
you need to Google for a local supplier or for Kreg themselves to ask that question. The screws can;t be universal as the head has a special design to prevent splitting the wood open when tightened.

Not for use on new pressure treated, unless you want 1/2 to 5/8 gap after dried.
@chrisvanweele66417 жыл бұрын
nz rockdj pressure treated lumber in my area is soaking wet usually 5 3/4- 5 7/8 wide ,but when dried shrinks back to 5 1/2 inch as it was milled. If you set the decking with a gap when the decking is wet it will dry and have a gap big enough for a woman in high heals to twist her ankle when in goes into the gap. So who's the douche now? Please explain how the decking will twist and buckle with no gap seeing that it will only shrink and create a 1/8-1/4 inch gap after dried.
@peterduke60377 жыл бұрын
Chris is right - When we install new PT decking we either butt them together or use just a nail shank. After a few months the gap is 1/4"+ . NZ rockdj - we are talking about construction techniques - why would you get into name calling? Makes no sense
@justinjbastin6 жыл бұрын
Hey Mr. Chris, i'm thinking about using this product. I haven't yet gotten my lumber and obviously i'm not sure on how wet it will be. Do you think with it shrinking that the screws would break the wood? If wet, how far would you space the boards? Thank you for the heads up/ thinking ahead.
@palehorse10216 жыл бұрын
May be nz rockdj is talking about dry wood. If the wood is very dry and you don't gap it will bow when it get's wet.
@cliffcarlo1807 жыл бұрын
I didn't think you have to put the screws through the kreg after drilling the holes.
@flyingrcdotnet7 жыл бұрын
Using the jig to guide the screws makes it easier to get them started at the right angle and then have very consistent screws all through the project
@cliffcarlo1807 жыл бұрын
I was wondering just how many use different size decking screws in their project, even a slightly larger screw would jam in the jig surely. Although I do see your point with regards to correct alignment of the screws after drilling.
@surveyguyor89583 жыл бұрын
using the jig to install the screws is going to get them to the exact depth you want on each screw.
@surveyguyor89583 жыл бұрын
@@cliffcarlo180 it's set up for use with kreig screws. All their tools are built specifically for use with their screws.

I would go with a drilled hole then a sawzall maybe? cant think of any other way
@briand25077 жыл бұрын
All you do is reverse the direction of your drill. There is no issue removing a board at all. You can see the screw head from above with plenty of access.

There is no doubt that no matter how simple a tool is designed, it will exceed the capabilities of a small segment of the population.
