This is the remains of Krematorium 2 at Auschwitz-Birkenau. This gas chamber killed around half a million people in 1943-1944 reaching a peak during the deportation of people from Hungary in May - June 1944.
More people were killed at this spot than anywhere else on the globe. Unfortunately as can be seen it is not protected against the elements although suggestions have been made to put a canopy or something similar over it.
Gas chambers two and three were made in a mirror image of each other at the head of the rail line which was laid to bring people due to be murdered directly to the point of death. Previously they had been unloaded at a siding around 2.5km from here and brought to this point either on foot or in lorries.
Prior to the construction of the gas chambers, people had been murdered in two houses located just outside the barbed wire fence called the red house and the white house.
I have placed many films of the holocaust on this site including interviews with witnesses.
Those interested should see also the films on Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, Chelmno nad Ner and Majdanek. These camps are much less known that Auschwitz although they account for nearly twice as many Jewish deaths.
You can find these films by clicking on user's films (Od użytkownika) or by entering the name of these camps in the search engine.
During the second world war some six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis by gassing, shooting, starvation, deliberate spreading of disease or by other means. Around half of these victims were killed, mainly at these six camps in Poland.

Another very informative video, Alan, and thank you. Am I correct in thinking that the chambers of Kremas 2 and 3 were the same size, and that there were two chambers in each building? And were Kremas 4 and 5 identical, or were they smaller? I've been trudging my way through several documents, but they are rather vague as to the exact size and layout of the buildings.

i have a question and i hope you can help me here. on some aerial photos it looks like there is more than just a fence around the crematoria 2 and 3. was there a wall or high bushes (like treblinka) or was there really just a barbed wire fence. i mean lots of inmates from the barracks nearby could see that thousands of people wasnt coming out of those buildings?? so can somebody help me perhabs with a good source or a link to a side or book. thank you very much.

@clintonearlwalker The thing about the internet is that it is open to everyone. In normal life we do not come into contact with people who have mental health issues, racists and others. However the internet brings us into contact with them. For racists, the only thing that matters is their own illogical hatred and if it is necessary to ignore the truth that does not matter. Then there are those that will argue night is day. Fortunately these nutters are a tiny - if vociferous - minority.

The holes were not disguised. The holes in the roofs of Krema II and III led to hollow columns made of wire mesh. There were four of these columns in the chamber in a staggered formation along the central row of columns included as support in the original mortuary design. There were phony shower heads in the chamber to support the "bad und disinfektion" ruse, and some parts of the installation did survive. I am not sure if they were the shower heads or covers to the air-extraction system.

And I certainly didn't mean to imply that your efforts demean the tragedy. Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII. My paternal grandfather, a regimental surgeon, cared for liberated prisoners in Dachau and prepared documents for the Nuremberg trial. When I was growing up, both were entering retirement and talking about the war. I learned about the Holocaust before I started grammar school and I have struggled with the subject for my entire life. I get a little touchy about it sometimes.

@sutton123454 There may well be papers all over the internet - I doubt if there are any facts. How do you explain that the population statistics show nothing of the sort? 1897 - Russian population around 127m 1926 - USSR 147m 1937 - 162m 1959 - 208m 1970 - 241m 1979 - 262m 1989 - 286m How do you explain that? What are your sources?

@MSM4U2POM Thanks for the comments. Two and three were the same size although at one stage the chamber was split into two. Four and five were smaller. The construction records survived and there are plans for these buildings.

2 & 3 were mirror images of each other as were 4 & 5 were identicle to each other. 2 & 3 only had one death chanber, which were underground. The facilities at 4 & 5 were completely above ground. I hope this helps you.

@yamureska I am aware of Hoess's comment about the fires and his excuse to continue with them despite the risk of acting as a beacon to industrial targets which by the summer of 1944 were in range of Allied bombers. I read the comments of one Herbert Loebel who was a prisoner and later a pilot and he thought the fires could be seen for up to 75 miles in ideal conditions. I am unaware of air defence documentation but would think it worth following up - if anyone can.

Rudolph Hoss was called back into service at Birkeneau to deal specifically with the mass murder of an inteended 700,000 Hungarian victims in May 1944. Infact 450,000 were deported there before Horthy stopped it.

Alan - Not to decry what you're doing, but I think you owe it to the subject matter to prepare before speaking. That would avoid rather unfortunate exchanges with sceptics on matters like uncertainty about the amount of gas required, something I've never come across in the literature. If reference to it does exist somewhere, do cite it. Also 'epitome' is pronounced eh-PIT-oh-me and it's Robert Jan van Pelt.

@riotskater4 In the first place WHO misses that (except possibly you)? In the second, what has that got to do with this video other than the fact that Stalin and Hitler started the war together? And in the third, Stalin did not kill 50m people - unless you are counting those that died in WW2 which Stalin helped the Nazis start.
@VanlifewithAlan
@VanlifewithAlan 13 жыл бұрын
@sutton123454 A few hours ago you said Stalin killed 60m - now it is down to 42m. That is 18m suddenly he did not kill. Do you not see how you insult the victims and the suffering of millions in this way? So you know people in Poland? Na pewno też mówisz po polsku. I fail to see what relevance that has. Personally I would prefer to live under Stalin than Hitler and that likewise proves nothing. And I also was in Poland when it was occupied by the USSR.

Hi Alan Thanks for posting these interesting clips about Krema 2. In the other clip Irvine´s arguaments against "the wholes where knocked out of the roof" on the grounds that the architects wouldnt have allowed is,to put it mildly, questionable.A vast army of god knows how many SS troops had murdered,burned and raped its way across Europe, led by a group of psychopaths is suddenly going to be scared of some cement technician that says you shouldnt knock holes in his lovely morgue roof...?

I have been inside the Leichenkeller 1 of Krema II. The walls are not blue. It seems that there is a very low level of cyanide residue consistent with normal fumigations of facilities. It is a few percentage of actual fumigation facilities. There are two irregular holes of different sizes chipped into through the poured-in-forms concrete roof. Absolutely no sign of "wire mesh columns." The doorway to the Leichenkeller is blocked by rubble. The one hole I went through is the only way to get into the Leichkeller. It was certainly chipped out (and the re-bar clipped and bent out of the way) in 1945 by the Soviet investigators.

kolkrabe19, the phrase "the memory of" is often used to express our memory of someone who has died, such as at a memorial service where people say "We are here to honor the memory of ...". To someone who has a good command of the English language the meaning of my previous comments would be clear. I imagine that the great majority of the people in the world agree that the Palestinians have legitimate grievances and that they deserve a Palestinian state. See continuation of comment.

"Why do you have this video as well as an interview with David Irving?" What's wrong with not being afraid to confront and be confronted by people who may have a different interpretation of the shoah? Doing this enhances his credability over the professional historians who hid their cowardice behind the "I don't debate deniers" shield . You don't need to watch very many of Alan Heath's movies to figure out where he stands on the holocaust

@sutton123454 The person incapable of using his noodle is you. You are the one who is ignorant. You have in front of you the Soviet censuses and instead you ignore it. I do not doubt that millions were killed by Stalin but ignorants like you who make absurd claims belittle the suffering of the victims. Look facts in the face and not propaganda. How do you explain the census figures - the first two before Stalin was in power? You can't and you are too ignorant to attempt to explain it.

Continuing on - I suspect there are hundreds of millions of people in the world today who lost family members in the war against the regimes of Nazi Germany & Imperial Japan. And I imagine there are hundreds of millions of people who are descendants of those who fought to defeat those regimes. At age 17 my father went into that fight & he was fortunate to survive the war. Anything you say in support of either of those regimes will harm the Palestinian cause.
@LoneTinaja

kolkrabe19, judging from your KZfaq activity you have a louder voice in the world than does the average Palestinian in Israel or elsewhere. If you engage in Holocaust denial or defend in any way the actions of Nazi Germany you harm the Palestinian cause.

That's what I thought. To be honest, if I were posting these videos, I think I would disable the comments. I have a hard time stomaching the comments of Holocaust deniers that are often left. I am all for free and open debate about the historical reality of the Holocaust. That is the only way the negationists will be exposed for what they are. I am not convinced, however, that youtube is the proper forum for such an endeavor. Usually, it demeans the tragedy. That is just my opinion.

You have an incomplete understanding of what can constitute a betrayal of humanity. The issue is simple. The many millions murdered by the Nazis were part of humanity. Most of the survivors of the Nazis' criminal actions have also died. They were part of humanity. Deliberately understating the magnitude of the Nazis' crimes serves to erase the memory of those swept away in the big lie, thus continuing the erosion of respect for human life in general, thus it is a betrayal of humanity.
