I especially find that wearing lots of fun, bright, unusual stuff helps because it tricks my anxiety-brain into assuming people are going to be too busy saying "wow look how cool/confident/different they are!" instead of "oh look at their muffin top" y'know? I am going to say this and I hope it doesn't sound BATSHIT CRAZY because it is true....ever since I was little I have never really thought of people as fat or thin or whatever....I had no idea my friends were heavy until my boyfriend told me when I was 16. I was a tiny kid and was so jealous that clothes fit them properly. I just have always thought of you Kristin as a beautiful smart girl whom I love watching! I'm older than you by twenty years or so but I love your fashion and alot of it would be to my taste! I just wanted to point out that even older generations don't just judge looks. I truly love PEOPLE and you and Jen are right up my alley! Love you!

I'm so glad you did this! I saw your empty suitcase Hawaii episode, and wound up buying a dress that you tried on but didnt buy (off shoulder, longer sleeves, dress above the knee). I love it! I figired we were about the same size, I wasn't wrong! I loved Wacoal, but they quit making my bra. Now I go with a balconette full coverage from Soma. I love that I can get matching panties.it was so nice to walk in and have someone hand me.only 2 styles before I found one. The Sensuous lace model is nicer for when you're feeling saucy. My go to bathing suit is by Miracle Suit. A little warm because of the extra layer of fabric, but black on bottom, bust color will vary from year to year. Buckle at center back, then a lower scoop back. Secures everything, slimming, has underwire. Shoes are a REAL problem...Rieker and Clarke's are usually good. Sadly, boots are harder because of my normally fat calves and cankles + injuries made it worse . I had boots custom made in Peru, but then tore a meniscus and haven't been able.to walk on that size heel easily (I think the guy made the heels.too big). I had tossed a bunch of shoes when I lost weight, now have had to rebuy. I just discovered Unique Vintage, but their sizing can be inconsistent (same blouse, same size, two fabrics. One fit across the bust, one didn't). Unlike you, I hate spending money and time on shipping, so would prefer brick and mortar. Will give Elloquy a try. Comfy shapewear tights for me are Assets (by Spanx, just easier to deal with). Thanks again! I'm about to go and check to see if I've missed episodes of Empty Suitcase....I really wish you'd been able.to take that content idea with you when you.left!

Even as a straight-size person, I still end up altering/making ~75% of my clothes! Clothing is made for what stores consider the "Standard body type" and chances are, it'll be at least slightly off. Eg: I'm 5'8, with a long torso, so if I'm buying a jumpsuit, I'll most likely have to shop in the Tall section, and then be prepared to take up the hem on the legs a little. A blind stitch is a wondrous thing.

I am *realistically* a 36H and I have exclusively worn Torrid's Push-Up Plunge bras for YEARS. Everyone who I tell that to is completely baffled. Why would I need a pushup bra when I already have huge boobs?! For me, it's both comfort and aesthetic. It keeps them up, it keeps them strapped in place, and makes it clear where my boobs end and my belly begins. So, even though I've always been confident about my love of these push-up bras it's super refreshing to see another large chested plus-size person also endorse them. I suddenly feel way less alone. I think a lot of your takes here are right on point. Thanks for this!

I'm a smaller cup size, but I wear them for the same reason! To me, they feel much much more supported in a push-up bra than in a traditional lightly lined bra or t-shirt bra and they create the shape I would like. I'm glad to see other people do this, too!

Omg yes I would love this so much. I'd love to dress more masc but how to is like ??? lmao Especially if it adresses both wearing a binder for outfits (and safety limits when doing so for those that don't know) but also when wearing a bra of some kind and still managing to project "not femme" I guess?

@@theyoftheravens yes! Having boobs is so frustrating when trying to dress more masc and I hate it because I personally have very annoyingly large boobs and asthma so it’s not really safe for me to bind. I’d low key have to tape myself up like a drag king and probably need someone to help me lol. So not very practical 😅😅 the only things I like myself in are really oversized tops and hoodies that can somewhat mask the giant bowling balls that are my boobs.

Wore a white suit to my wedding. It was awesome for the sheer comfort (I do not sit well in a dress) and mobility. I eloped, did multiple locations for photos and hopping in and out of the car and walking about was so much easier without a having a dress dragging. I bought off the rack from J. Crew and had it tailored so it felt a bit more bespoke which was another plus: not paying a crapload of money; suiting was a more affordable option. EDIT: My everyday style definitely leans “unisex” with a dash of streetwear (joggers and sweat suits, boiler suits) with an occasional of “feminine” element. So a suit felt destined.

Hi Kitchen! I recently came out to myself and my closest friends as bisexual... at 32. I go in and out of pride vs. shame. I'm unfortunately in a shame cycle now. I'm a gay virgin and also demisexual, and I'm afraid that I'll always be afraid to have sexual and romantic experiences with women and non binary people- because of the shame I have. If this isn't too personal, would you mind speaking on your queer journey? I've always admired you and when I learned that you're queer it made me feel warm and fuzzy about being in this community.
@fumetsushinju
@fumetsushinju 2 жыл бұрын
I wish I could send you a thousand hugs! It's really tough to be demisexual AND worried about your love life. I hope you treat yourself with love and care as you continue your journey. You shouldn't put "deadlines" on your love life. If fear and shame are holding you back, you should build a good support group of trusted friends so you don't have to face these emotions alone. Also, if you can afford it, the right therapist can help you process your feelings and heal from emotional trauma like the "shame cycle."

I really love Old Navy for leggings, softer denim jeans, and basic tees. I struggle with sensory issues when it comes to clothing. I love that they are now including sizes up to 28 in store AND at “regular” price too. It’s a step in the right direction. I ONLY buy during 40% or up sales though because I feel like it’s overpriced. 😂

Ok, so underboob sweat, they make liners that go underneath (no amount of pushup means I wont have skin touching skin). They are bamboo and very comfortable. I got them on Amazon. Also, in a pinch the brown paper towels that are in dispensers. It doesn’t break down that fast and keeps things comfy. Both keep sweat and therefore irritation in check.

One important thing when it comes to fast fashion stores, and this pertains to all sizes, is that since they die cut their fabrics in large stacks the further you get towards the bottom of the stack the more skewed the size becomes. That's why you can try on three identical pairs of jeans in a store and each one fits slightly differently. So even if you know your usual size in a store or it's a new place and you're taking your measurements in preparation I highly recommend trying on a variety of sizes. I shop at some places where I can range across three different sizes on the same day. Also the style of an item can determine what size you may need to try on. I'm always a different size if something is high waisted versus mid-rise. Shop for fit, not the sizing.

TYSM FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!! Also, the underboob sweat question was *real.* Although I totally agree with you Kitchen, I wanted to offer some alternative options from a certified Big Tiddie Goth™️: 1. Baby powder. (I am baby.) 2. Jock itch (NOT ATHLETES FOOT) spray/cream. Listen, I know it seems gross, but it works. 3. Wear cotton/super-duper-breathable fabrics-I've found this decreases boob sweat a whole bunch I hope this helps my fellow tig ol biddie humans!

But saying that I absolutely hate sweating like crazy & I've been known to cheat by wearing rx antiperspirant/deodorant in non underarm areas. Which is also why I don't wear it every day. I actually have a thrift recommendation! threadUp! It's not only plus size but they carry up to a size 32 and have a massive selection (in my experience from sizes 12-20). You can pre-set your sizes to tailor your search results. I've had good luck, especially since their restocking fee ($1.99) is per order, not per item, and they provide super easy free returns. I treat the purchase as a dressing room situation.

I'm on the large end of standard sizing and petite, so I am so happy I found it. It's taken a bit of experimentation to get good at using it. Watching channels like Nicole Rudolph and Abby Cox have been helpful in uderstanding sizing and measurements. I do wish thredup was more consistent in providing useful garment measurements and their refund policy is trash, but I can live with that. My biggest frustration is if you search petites only it won't let you filter by material as well. I have a strong preference for linen followed by cotton and cellulose-based fabrics. Polyester is a hard pass.

Oh my gosh, I was plus sized my entire life (until this year, I and I have really mixed feelings about it, not the point). I have a very strong opinion where they're clothes, wear them. If you like it, especially if you like you in it, wear them. You deserve space, you deserve to wear what you want, period (just make sure the required by law bits are covered.) I hate the lack of options, but at least there are increasing options. Everyone deserves to be seen and wear clothes! I was asked about bigger brands offering more sizes, it's great! Not truly size inclusive, but it's something.

I've only really gotten into Torrid in the past year, and honestly it's been wonderful! It definitely is a bit more than I used to spend on clothes and shoes (which was basically nothing anyway, haha) but it's been sooooo worth it. I like... finally have clothes and shoes that fit me and are comfortable and better quality than what I had before. Which has made SUCH a difference in my life. I've gotten some great basics there for sure. But also some more fun/colorful/patterend pieces that were instantly my favorite. NO SHAME IN THE TORRID GAME.

In reference to plus size shopping in person (brick and mortar store), I suggest: Torrid, Ashley Stewart, Simply Fashion, Avenue, Forever 21.... YES, they are probably heavy on the "fast fashion", so I DON'T recommend for those who have the privilege of not having as much trouble finding affordable plus size clothing. Also, I don't know how to say this appropriately, but as a black woman I can attest that the clothing options for curvy and plus women have always been more abundant (and stylish) in more "urban" neighborhoods. More random shops that aren't the usual chains.

Dear Kitchen (Kristin) I somehow missed this even though I’ve been following you since before this show existed. IDK why, but I’m seeing this today. When I first followed you I was a plus size gal and was so happy to find a beautiful woman who identified with my fashion struggles. Now, I had weight loss surgery and I weigh 120lbs less than when I first followed you. I joke that I have “reverse” body dysmorphia. The person I see in the mirror is the same, modesty overweight, person I’ve always seen. Literally ALL of your advice still applies and I appreciate it so much. Anyone who passes by your advice because they see “plus size” in the title is missing out. I think anyone who has ever had an insecurity about their body, founded or not, could benefit from what you have to say. Thanks for being just who you are, always. I sincerely appreciate it.

As a person recovering from an eating disorder, a great shopping tip for this full figured gal, is to not face the mirror as you get undressed and dressed. Only turn around once you’ve put the garment on, and if it feels good on, you can turn around and take a gander at the color and flow. Remember, “you don’t have to fit the clothes, it’s the clothes job to fit you, and if they don’t, it’s not for you. It’s the clothing’s fault not yours. Just like romantic partners. Not working for me? Thank you, next.”

I'm really surprised hearing Kristin doesn't feel confident ! I remember a video they did years ago where they wore sheer outfits for a whole week and they were ... Beautiful, the most good-looking a person can be, the clothes weren't that "provocative" but the way they wore them, just perfect. I don't know I'm the exact opposite of a plus-size body, I don't even wear bras because I don't need them I'm nearly completely flat chested, but I feel that age brings you the confidence that youth didn't, I've just begun to feel good and happy at 30 and now that I'm 35 for nothing I would change anything about my body, and for nothing I would go back to my twenties.

this is such good fucking advice, thank you for doing this! And I totally agree about measuring (also for anyone with a history of eating disorders, totally shop with a friend not just on your own. Your friend can measure and purchase with your money or whatever works for you and your friend will tell you you look good and fight off any "ew I'm ugly" feelings coming up while shopping. I NEVER go bra shopping alone anymore because I once tried on like 20 bras and couldn't find one that fit and had a panic attack and had to leave the store so yeah bring a friend friends are great). Also totally bring a tape measure with you when you're shopping in person so you can measure things that aren't marked beyond saying "xxl" or whatever

Your energy is so positive! I love your message. Also, totally agree about shopping in Europe. I’m quite tall, which can make shopping hard anywhere, but wear mostly straight sizes in America. The mentality around different bodies in the states is a lot more open than I found abroad.

I also struggle with this, but not as much as I used to, I find it's v helpful to ask does it matter? Like, "I feel like a fat blob today" okay, and? This fat blob has errands to run, today they are fat blob errands not human errands, that's fine. Future me won't see a fat blob, the people who love me never see that. I don't care what I look like in photos anymore once I look happy, because that's what matters and life is too short not to be on photos. If I die tomorrow my loved ones will want photos, they will not care if that top isn't maximally flattering.

I laughed out loud when you essentially shouted your goodbye: "Anyway. THAT'S MY PLUS SIZED FASHION QUESTIONS VIDEO." Also I loved that pencil skirt outfit! A tip on finding a good fit while shopping online: It's great to know your measurements, but, at least in my experience, sizing charts online are rarely accurate, so I try to read through all of the reviews to see what people are saying about the fit. Sometimes reviews are contradictory, but a lot of the times you can pick out trends in the comments and make a better choice (ie, size up, size down, more cropped than it looks, tight in the sleeves or chest, etc).

Loved the video! Since Kristin doesn't really wear tights and I will never miss an opportunity to gush about them, I recommend Snag Tights! Super soft, super comfy, and has a great size range. They're comparable to Torrid as far as price goes but they have so many more styles and colors plus seasonal releases. Honestly I have like 15 pairs which some might say is a problem, but I say is a solid indicator of quality. :) And if you'd like some tall socks (like over the knee or thigh highs) to layer over your comfy new tights, I'd say either Sock Dreams or ThundaThighs. Sock Dreams has more styles, but can be a bit hit or miss with the sizing. Even if it's listed in their plus size category, always check the sizing info! They give super detailed measurements. So as Kristin says, measure with a tape measure before you buy! Hope this helps someone!
