She's 4'11". It's just amazing a person her size can fill up a stage like she does. I liked the woman in the audience at 1:55 and how the pianist, (conductor) got so swept into this as it built . Ms Chenoweth can really sell a song. She was born to do this.

Kristin has a bachelor's degree in musical theater, and a master's degree in opera performance. She knows what she's doing. Regarding her height, Linda Ronstadt is 5'2", and she had a powerful, versatile voice. Judy Garland was 4'11", and she sure could sing. Height has nothing to do with singing or musical ability. I'm 5'1", and have been playing the piano for 54 years. My height is irrelevant when it comes to playing the 88 keys.
@joeherald73193 жыл бұрын
@@ericandsarahsmom1000 You are correct. Now that you mention it, size doesn't have anything to do with talent. If someone 4'11" has "the pipes". I did not know Judy Garland was also 4'11". I was just thinking it takes a lot of voice strength for Broadwayand opera singers especially because they've got to get the song all the way to the back of the house. Ms Chenoweth can do that.
@Middlesex19573 жыл бұрын
Good things come in small packages! I'm 5'5" tall and for a man that means I am rarely taken seriously, hardly noticed and passed over unless or until I open my mouth and fill the hall with my voice- - I can't sing like she does but I can and do sing. The big ones just fall harder and the air is thinner up there soooo... don't underestimate the little ones. LOL.

Yes, recordings are tuned to be flawless but you can't see the personality and feel the emotion like you can with live versions. Okay I have to do it. Here's a little Vocal Breakdown of this stunning performance! 0:16 - Very conversational in the way she is singing as if she is talking to the to every audience member personally. This is acieved by a few things, one being the way she sings the lyrics: eg. "lucky" is still on pitch but not really sung, just spoken instead. 0:21 - On the word stay, one of many Crescendos she uses to evoke a tense feeling as the song builds. This performance is full of these. 0:25 - Again very conversational in approach, not too overly sung. Stunning tone and pitch. 0:31 - "Away" another crescendo and her vibrato builds in tempo too. 0:36 - "He will hold me fast" very seductive with how she goes to the consonant of "s" in the word "fast". Slightly more of a head voice quality here too. 0:52 - "Like the last time" a stronger chest voice here with STUNNING vibrato (I love Kristen's vibrato, it's perfection). This stronger chest voice here evokes further emotion for the lyrics. This performance is full of emotive singing and wonderful story telling. 0:54 - An octave change from a G4 to a G3 on the word "time". Her resonance and vibrato here is amazing, very difficult to achieve on a lower note like a G3. 0:59 - This "everybody" hits differently. The "body" is more open than the few other times this word was sung. The "loves a winner" here is so good! The acting here is amazing and she is making us believe every word she sings! Great story telling! 1:10 - "Lady peaceful" the "peace" has a subtle change to head voice here then back to chest for "ful" with a lovely vibrato and change in vowel placement with almost an "ah" at the end. 1:18 - I love this "be". It has intent and power and the climb up from a G4 to G#4 to A for the new key of F major is flawless and a great way of building the song. 1:22 - Notice how Kristen is almost behind the beat of the song here with "all the odds are in my favor". This is syncopation and it's yet another technique Kristen uses to build the song further before the final climax. 1:29 - "Begin" Notice her locked jaw position that literally does not move for the duration of the note. Great chest belt on a difficult vowel at a C5 with masterful vibrato. 1:33 - This is more of a mix than a chest note with "It's gonna" well placed but lacks the power that her full chest voice has. Still a nice little growl on the "it's" and a great note! 1:36 - "Happen some time" Wanted to point out that on the word "time" she actually goes almost completely back into her chest voice here. Shows us how Kristen has fantastic control over her voice. 1:59 - OMG! THIS! "maybe this time I'll win" she uses her whole body to emphasise those notes and intensify her vibrato as she goes into the climax of the song. 1:43 - "Cause" has almost a slide down from the top note of C5 carried by her vibrato. 1:44 - Straight down an octave to a B3 still keeping the power and pitch perfect. 1:50 - "So nobody loved me" Great soar on "loved" with a 5 note interval up to an G#4 with a fantastic vibrato and tone on "me". 1:56 - Lovely slide on "lady" hitting a B4 2:00 - Incredible chest note on G#4 climbing up semi tones from A4 to Bb4 into the new key. 2:05 - "All the odds are" more syncopation and omg that TONE and resonance on "are" is outstanding. 2:10 - "Something's bound to begin" Kristen uses more slides her for each syllable to reach the notes in her chest voice. The "begin" hits a great C#5, a tiny bit shaky in the middle, but Kristen saves it like a pro! 2:15 - Here's that fantastic growl mix again on an insane D#5! 2:17 - To me iconic from Glee, the "ha ha" adds so much happiness to the performance as if she really is finally going to win! 2:20 - "Maybe this time" Note her wide mouth so she can place the notes perfectly for resonance and power. Some extra growls and a huge smile too! She's gonna win! 2:22 - "Maybe this time" Here she changes her emotion on the word "time" immediately. So much more intensity! And her pitch is incredible such precision with high belts like this alternating between the C#5 and the D#5. 2:26 - "I'll win" fantastic belt with her vibrato steady and in time. The wide mouth allows for excellent placement here and the exaggerated "wha" at the start of the word "win" allows a singer to place the note easier before the vowel is sung. 3:33 - I honestly was waiting for this. Her Glee performance of this is one of my favourite things of all time. Here she demonstrates her classical training and her very impressive range. That's a B5 folks. A B5. The vibrato here is incredible again, her voice really shines on notes like this! I hope you all enjoyed! I do this on performances or songs that I find inspiring and make me want to better my vocal abilities. Kristen is phenomenal and quite frankly, an icon and I hope you learned a little something from this post! If you want, check out some of my covers on my channel, or some of my other vocal breakdowns on some other videos!

Thanks- couldn't quite catch all the lyrics, and after reading these on the second listen they are crystal clear- and great by the way!

Wow. All the feels with this one. I love her because I don't think objectively she has a tone that is very versatile, but she gives such emotional performances every single time and really sells whatever it is she's singing. I've yet to come away from a performance from her disappointed.

OMG I didn't know anything about her career, I just knew her as an actress on some TV show and didn't even know that she could sing and oh boy she sings with such a powerful and beautiful voice, I am so used to the Liza Minellis version that I thought I was not going to like Ms Chenoweth version but what a rendition, what a performance. kudos to her and thanks to whoever posted this video. I jut googled her and she has an amazing career and with lots of awards and recognition in musicals etc. I feel like I have been living in another planet...... I am a new fan !!!!!!!

The reason why she is so amazing is not only a voice but she has a vision of this song inside her head that enraptures the audience she becomed the character and truly embodied the song

This woman is absolutely flawless. To say her voice is above and beyond amazing would be underselling her talent. I wish I had her vocal range.
