Krita now has storyboard features. Once they have the audio layer appear in the timeline, it will be even better.

For you guys to simply decide what you should use :- 1. Krita is free and open source program 2. Doesn't has a lot of features but has basic ones for animating! 3. Krita has all advanced features required to make drawings 1. TV paint will cost a kidney 2. Has ton of features for both animating and painting 3. Lot of professionals in anime industry use this software My opinion - Well I find TV Paint better for studio level stuff but I have only used a trial, but if you want to learn it is not reasonable to sell your kidney so you should use Krita!

Forgot to mention the "animated brush" feature in TVP! The workspace is also customizable. I have created hundreds of TvPaint Brushes to use if anyone is insterested. They were up in my channel for a while but I had to take them down. I might make a new video showcasing them and linking them.

TVPaint's Storyboarding workflow is why I love it. I don't have to make a bunch of different files just to view one storyboard frame. On top of that. You can go into each storyboard and animate it from there.

@@temtoonnefertem4131 you're right it does use layers just like Krita. But my personal preference is convenient organization, TVPaint does that for me by having timelines within timelines. *HOWEVER* 👌 I'm not gonna dismiss the positive sides of Krita. I can definitely vouche for it if you use it alongside blender or Opentoonz. Krita is a great way to add detail keyframe drafts if you're working raster. (more blablabla from my experiences of using software below 🤣) Blender is great for vectorizing raster line art, though I'm not up to date as to how grease pencil is doing, (idk if Pablo bothered to address that edge problem with their GP post fx. 😑). And there is no doubt about the GP lasso fill tool in blender; it's the greatest thing that ever existed in open source animation software ❤️

If you purchase TVP nowadays you no longer have to worry about the USB dongle, it has been dematerialized for a while. Tvpaint also has a neverending free trial to try for yourself, and the Android version is free (so if you have something like a Samsung galaxy tab, its useful). Another attribute you give Krita, that it is also an illustration/painting software, is also true for TvPaint. I actually have a video comparing Clip Studip Paint, Photoshop and TvPaint, where I paint the same picture 3 times. Essentially, TvPaint is also my favorite to use even with no animation features. To just paint and draw.

I wouldn't say that Krita has two separated workspaces for painting and animation. They are just different preset of one interface. I work on my own made custom preset that includes tools as for drawing so for animation.

The thing with animation software like TVpaint is that it cost more than just the price of the software as you will find that your need a beefy computer as to handle all the workload and renders! So throw another thousand in that then you need the rest of the equipment sound and music and other things! So how much is it going to cost you to start your very own small animation studio is the real question you should be asking about. What is the total cost or budget to start creating my own animation studio? that is the proper question to ask yourself.

Whatever the intension. I have TVpaint. Paid quite a few pennies for it. So I stayed away from Krita because I have this super expensive software I use already. I did download it out of curiosity eventually. The animations tools aren’t as intuitive at first, but for 2D hand drawn animation I find Krita does hold its own. Honestly, if you just starting out, hobbyist or just On budget, I don’t see this being a bad option. Overall I like TVpaint better and it flows better for a 2D workflow, but Krita isn’t bad to the point you can use it as an excuse for making bad work.

@@InspirationTuts2D s/he just explain mean of "open source" isn't "free", if the creator of that app want to sell it, they actually can, but there is no license agreement, that's mean anyone can make same thing with same code, if they know the code. @InspirationTuts 2D usually businesses would comply with paying to avoid the headache of licensing issues. An example use case would be publishing some programming research for an academic community, yet wanting to profit from it too.

Hold up. "TvPaint is known to be intuitive" - just what. It's fucking not. However, after you learn how to use it - it's quite quite convenient. Also, the video never mention the coolest customization of TvPaint brushes - the animated brush. You can turn a number of frames into a brush. The TvP also allows you to work on entire progect in one file, since you can split you animations into shots and frames, there tool to work with cameras to create a "stop motion" animations and many, many more. TvP is a professional tool used in big studios and companies all over the world, US included. The small amount of tutorials is due to the age of the software, and it's price. Previously TvP was know as Mirage. Krita is just a simpler freeware. Definitely can do the work, but the lack of tools is saddening. p.c. also, there a lot of Clip Studio Painting animations and screenshots in this video. As Krita CSP got a simpler animation tools, but does the job. The main CSP focus is manga and comics.
