We are Brian & Jessica, a married couple who started on a life-changing whole food, plant-based weight loss journey back in June 2018. In June 2022, our lives were flipped upside-down when Jessica was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. We continue to share our adventures (highs, lows, struggles & everything in between) in following a plant-based diet while keeping you up-to-date on Jessica's cancer journey. In October 2023, we welcomed our very first child via gestational carrier.

So sorry to hear of your diagnosis. My father had a kidney removed when he had kidney cancer in his early 60s. He's doing great at 83, very healthy plant based. They told him if he hadn't had that crash, they'd have never known because kidney cancer has no symptoms until it's too late. When they find it early, it's usually because they're looking for something else. He had his kidney removed. No radiation or chemo or anything and he's been fine ever since. He had no symptoms at all. His tumor was about 7cm. We live in Canada, the doctor here removed it and then did the biopsie. The cancer was agressive but it was removed on time and did not spread anywhere. The surgery went well and he’s living very well with one kidney. Sorry to hear about you possibly having kidney cancer. In 2008 at the age of 49, my husband had a partial nephrectomy due to kidney cancer. He's had no recurrence or kidney issues since praise God! Praying for a wonderful outcome for you as well!

Brian - your symptoms with the extreme gas, pain in the colon (especially if it's in the lower left area of lower abdomen) and chills/fever all sound identical to hubby's diverticulitis. "A colonoscopy is generally considered safe, but there is a small risk of complications, including the potential to exacerbate existing diverticular disease." You may have the condition and the colonoscopy exacerbated the diverticulitis when you got home from the procedure. If you do indeed have the condition, is it is manageable by avoiding things like seeds, kernels, etc. which get stuck in the "pocket" -- Please know we are praying for you during the biopsy and subsequent treatments.

The guidance to avoid seeds and nuts is dated and has no evidence-based support in current medical literature.

@@jwhite4083 The only thing that triggers hubby's diverticulitis are tomato seeds. If he doesn't get any, he never has an episode. If he does, he does. It's been that way for 20 years.

Brian, I was diagnosed with early stage Endometrial cancer back in 2017. My treatment was surgery alone. Like you, neither chemotherapy nor radiation were needed! I'm so grateful to God. You are in my prayers for a complete recovery!

When my husband was dealing with rectal cancer 17 years ago, he went through many surgeries, chemo--so many different ones we lost count, and radiation--more than is normally recommended because his cancer was so aggressive. So he finally beat the cancer, but over the years has become gradually more disabled because of the side effects of the treatments ... but he is still alive and enjoying life. During this time, my cousin who was in his 50s called to say that he had kidney cancer. His cancer was caught early. His kidney was removed and that was the end of treatment. He is in his 70s now and remains very active ... still playing tennis and pickleball. I'm very much hoping that what you have is NOT cancer ... but if that isn't to be ... hoping for a simple and complete recovery! Hugs all around!❤

Wonderful that the doctor at Mayo Clinic was well informed about plant based life style. So many in the medical profession know very little about nutrition and the negative impact of the standard American diet. ❤❤❤

Brian, I know someone who had kidney cancer and was fine afterwards. Be kind to yourself. You have gone through a lot in the last few years. You are an amazing person. Stress has a huge affect on your stomach. Try fewer chilli’s & less spicy food. It might help.
